Application Instructions and Timelines

Purpose To provide assistance to Global Outreach Workers, Candidates and Westwood members in obtaining training to further the Kingdom of God cross-culturally.

Oversight The Global Outreach Team with approval by the Senior Pastor or Executive Pastor and the Global Outreach Elder.

Types of Training Eligible for Funding Student Candidates:

• Education that would help the student candidate to obtain a degree in preparation for the field. This may include course work in college or graduate school.

• Education or continuing education to enhance skill sets in preparation for the field, such as linguistics, discipleship, church planting, business as missions or anthropological education that might assist in engaging a specific religious group.

Existing Westwood Global Outreach Workers:

• Education or continuing education that would enhance skill sets on the field or assist in the goals of current ministry. This might include focused training in areas such as language acquisition and church planting.

• Education to obtain advanced degrees to enhance effectiveness and/or credibility to host country.

Funding Goal:

• It is the goal of this Fund to award one $1,000 scholarship to a student candidate and one $1,000 scholarship to an existing Westwood Global Outreach Worker each year as there are qualified applicants. If any one category does not produce an acceptable applicant then two scholarships may be given from the other category. A maximum of two scholarships shall be granted each year.

Instructions for Submission of Letters of Recommendation:• Three letters of recommendation from non-relatives must be sent to support each

application. Copies of these application instructions should be provided to the people who will be writing recommendations. This will help the writer understand the intent of the scholarship and the procedure to submit recommendation. Letters of recommendation should be e-mailed to the Pastor of Global Outreach at: westwoodbob@hotmail.com or mailed to Pastor Bob Barnes at Westwood Baptist; 333 Kaiser Road NW, Olympia, WA 98502.

• Proposed School and course of Study

Schedule of Application and Review:• February 14 Applications due• March 4 Applicants notified if they will be interviewed• Third week of March Applicant Interviews• Second week of April Notification of scholarships awarded

Scholarship Approval Process:• The Westwood Baptist Church Global Outreach Team will review all applications

including letters of recommendations. Scholarships will be awarded to those applicants that most closely meet the purposes of the scholarship program. Awards will be based on merit, need and those applicants that demonstrate greatest potential for contributing to the purposes of Global Outreach on the field.
