Lanchester Gallery Projects, curatorial focus isart and education.
Lanchester Gallery Projects (LGP) presentshistorical interventions that Rushton undertookwhile he was a student at Coventry School ofArt and Design (then Lanchester Polytechnic) inthe early 1970s. With editorial colleagues in theAnalytical Art Group, a small number ofstudents addressed the educational objectivesof the art school, and in particular its staidseparation between art theory and the artobject.
As a key agent in student-led activismthroughout the 1970s, Rushton co-edited,contributed and printed magazines andjournals that reflect the decade-longadjustment to the reorganisation of UK artschools amid the insurgent artist-collective andself-organisation alternatives. The content in thismaterial was of significant conceptualconsequence and became an integral part ofthe wider counter culture of the 70s. LGP willdisplay a selection of this student literaturealongside the historical and contemporaryinterventions.
