• Economic Significance of Child Care Economist on team of analysts evaluating the economic significance of child care. Primary responsibilities are for the theoretical and empirical modeling of the regional economy and interindustry impacts using IMPLAN Pro modeling system.

• Post 9-11 fiscal trends and rural/urban residential location preferences Responsible with colleagues for research design, primary (survey) and secondary data collection and analysis, and implementation of research program on 1) the effects of the current fiscal crises on NY local governments and 2) any post 9-11 shifts in rural versus urban residential preferences.

• Building Capacity to Collaboratively Manage Community Environmental Conflict Principal Investigator responsible for project intended to build institutional capacity in New York communities to better manage conflicts involving agricultural and environmental issues. Managed overall project team, oversaw training manual production, co-designed and co-led training workshops.

• Economic and Community Development in New York’s Canal Corridor

Designed, organized, conducted, summarized interviews of economic development and planning professionals. Statistical analysis of municipal fiscal status, impacts of flow of federal economic and community development funds on communities. Co-author and presentation of research findings. Co-management of interdisciplinary research group.

• Public Issues Education and Collaborative Problem-Solving in the Northeast:

Building Cooperative Extension's Capacity Through Partnerships Designed, analyzed, and summarized multi-state key informant interviews of extension association directors. Implemented and summarized focus group research with local policy makers. Designed and implemented multi-state regional PIE capacity building workshops. Helped plan national Public Issues Education conference/workshop. Primary author of study findings. Lead and/or participated in in-service educator training sessions, including statewide teleconference.

• Audit of Public Policies Affecting the Competition for Land: Northeast Case Studies

Inventoried and prioritized public policies affecting farm land values in the region based on a literature review. Used secondary data sources (primarily Census) for all northeastern U.S. counties to rank counties according to the strength of agriculture and population growth pressures. Evaluated the importance of policies potentially affecting land values with county based focus group participants and multivariate statistical analysis. Collaborated with Principal Investigator in all aspects of research, analysis, reporting.

• Long Islanders and the Environment of the South Shore: A Survey of Public Opinion

Organized and conducted key informant/stakeholder survey research. Designed and implemented public opinion mail survey. Conducted statistical analysis of survey results. Wrote final report and presented results. Coordinated research with NYS Department of State staff and citizen’s advisory committee.

• Impacts of Proposed Farmland Protection Tools, Erie County

Developed GIS based simulation models of the economic and land use implications of proposed farmland protection tools in an Erie County towns subject to varying degrees of development pressures.

• Intermediate Scale Urban Composting of Food Wastes Responsible for the economic component of a project on urban composting. Analyzed the economic feasibility of onsite food composting systems utilized at hospitals and similar facilities in densely populated urban environments.

• Ecosystem Restoration in the Hudson River Valley Responsible for data collection and economic analysis of willingness-to-pay for ecosystem restoration and protection. Part of research project on public perceptions of Hudson River Valley environment.
