What does a Firewall do?

Protects your computer and network by preventing unauthorized access to your

computer or home network.

Preventing unauthorized outgoing traffic

Can prevent someone from exploiting a vulnerability in your computer’s Operating

System or an applicaiton

How does a Firewall work?

Uses a set of rules to allow or deny traffic

Inspects the data coming into and leaving a network to see if it matches the rules

Handles the data based on the rules

How does a Proxy work?

Prevents outside network traffic from “touching” the inside network device.

Acts like the waiter at a restaurant. You tell them what info you want

and they get it for you.

You don’t get to go into the kitchenand cook your own food
