KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3

Last week our Grade 3 & 4 students, Miss Baker and I were on camp at Alexandra Adventure

Resort with Kialla West. We had 76 students and 9 teachers / parents sharing this special adventure. There were some challenging activities including: a really, really high ropes course, a giant swing, a flying fox that went over a lake, canoeing, initiatives games, archery and much more. There was plenty of food which was delicious. Chef Trevor certainly looked after us as did the activities leaders. The facilities at the Resort are excellent with lots of activities for the students to do during their free time such as: a trampoline, basketball / tennis turf court, air hockey table, soccer table, table tennis table, beach volleyball and lots of oval space with football & soccer goals. Miss Baker & I were very proud of how well the Kialla Central students mixed in and made new friends. A big thank you to Miss Candace Goodwin (Camp Organiser), Mr Campbell Marx, Mrs Michelle Carkeek, Mr Wes Teague, the parents and students from Kialla West. I would also like to thank everyone back at school who kept our school running as per usual as it is a team effort. Finally, congratulations to all of our campers who made me very proud! There will be a special feature in next week’s newsletter. Information, permission and medical forms for our Foundation, Grade 1 & 2 Camp Program were sent home today. On Thursday 9th and Friday 10th November our junior students will be participating in our last camp program for the year. This is a very exciting time especially for our Grade 2s who get to stay at school for a sleep over and we have an excursion to SPC KidsTown. Forms and payment are due this Friday 3rd November.

Monday 6th November is a Curriculum Day and students are not required at school. Staff will be spending the day

looking at the latest documents the Department has released as part of the Education State strategy, the impact for our classrooms and school. We will also be planning for 2018. On Monday 23rd October we held our School Council meeting. Topics discussed included: Resurfacing our basketball court. We are

hoping this will be able to be completed in the next couple of weeks, ideally over this coming weekend, depending upon the weather and our oval.

We discussed our Attitudes to School Survey data, Parent Opinion data and our NAPLAN.

The overall state of our grounds and what we need to do to restore them after our major project.

We also need to prepare our school for the upcoming bushfire season. A big thank you to Peter Blake for slashing a fire break for us along our fence line and Alan Keat who organised it to be ploughed.

Our 2018 School Levies have been endorsed and will remain at $270 per student and an option for families to make voluntary contributions $60.00. A letter explaining our levies will be sent

home shortly. We will also be having a Working Bee to tidy up our school grounds once all of our works are completed, so stay tuned for a date.

Yesterday our 2018 Foundation students participated in their first Orientation session. It was a very

exciting day for all concerned. Our Grade 1s got to go into Miss Baker’s room for the morning, our current Foundation students got to be the “big kids” and show our incoming Foundation students what to do. We have 15 of our senior students as buddies and did a fantastic job looking after their new friends. The new Foundations did a number of activities including: reading Mrs Wishy Washy, some counting and learning about school. Our next session is on Thursday 16th November from 12.30pm to 3.15pm. This is also our special pizza lunch day and their orders have taken. A big thank you to our Parents’ Club for covering the cost of our 2018 Foundations pizza lunch. Our Scholastic Book Fair finished last Friday. This was again well supported by our students with lots of smiles and new books in hand. At this stage, we are not sure of our fundraising results. We send Scholastic our paper work and record of sales and they calculate it and inform us of our credit. Thank you to everyone for supporting this event. As Remembrance Day falls on Saturday this year, we will be hosting our ceremony on Friday 10th November. The K.C.P.S. tradition will continue with our School Captains, Edie & Riley, MCing this special event. They are also selling red poppy badges on behalf of the RSL for a gold coin donation. Edie & Riley visit the

classrooms each morning from 8.50am to 9.00am for students to buy a badge. I am very pleased to announce that we have finally got a new bus that is fitted with seatbelts. Mr McCully is now the “King of the Road” and is very happy with his new wheels. A big thank you to Roy Dyson from the Dyson Group for sourcing the new bus for us. It has been a long process but it proves that persistence pays off in the end.
