March 9-March 15, 2017 Classroom News Pre-Kindergarten: Pre-K is sad because our guinea pig, Diego, died last Friday. We are decorating his cage and remembering how we love him. Our letter of the week is Uu. We have been watching videos of ukulele music, people riding unicycles, and even looking at pictures of the universe. Kindergarten: We are beginning to work on our show, “Go Fish.” This Kindergarten show will take place at the end of the year. The children will receive their parts sometime next week. The theme for this show is that it takes all kinds of fish to make the ocean the beautiful place that it is, just the way that it takes all kinds of people to a world filled with harmony and color make. Dates to Remember March 13: Lenten Penance Service March 15: 2 nd Trimester Ends March 23: Superhero Theme Dress Down March 31: All School Mass: 1:00pm April 2: Gentlemen’s Choice Bowling Soiree April 8: Ladies Choice Dance April 14: Good Friday: No School April 17-21: April Vacation: No School April 25-26: 8 th Grade Class Trip to NYC St. Teresa School will be hosting our auction, “Lights, Camera, Auction” on Saturday, June 3 from 6:00pm-10:00pm at Saint Raphael Academy! The evening will include live auction items, silent auction items, raffle baskets, mystery wine bottles, student artwork sale, and a tuition raffle The event will be 21+! We are looking for donations of gift certificates, bottles of wine, and any other items that would be great for our event! Keep your eyes peeled for more information, especially about the Tuition Raffle! This will be our major fundraiser for the school year, thank you in advance for your support! Save the Date!!!

Classroom News • Grade One: This week in Reading we have

been talking about pets and whistling as we read “Whistle for Willie” Our Spelling words all have oo in them. Next week we will read and learn about butterflies and our Spelling words will have the long oo vowel sound. In Math we are beginning Chapter 4. We will be learning about graphs and charts. We will begin talking about community helpers, health and safety in Social Studies and Science. I’ll bring in a St. Patrick’s Day treat on Friday 3/17.

• Grade Three: We have started new material in each subject! In Language Arts we are practicing our note-taking skills and reading comprehension. In Math we are now working on division. In Science we are learning about the planets. In Social Studies we are learning about the African and Mexican cultures. We are also starting to learn about St. Patrick with the upcoming holiday and following the Iditarod dog sled race. Third grade is very busy!

Classroom News • Grade Four: We are continuing our

units on fractions, plant reproduction and the Northeast region. We are also completing our final copy of our process writing. Thank you to everyone who donated tissues and paper towels.

• Grade Five: Grade 5 finished Old Yeller and there were many tears! We've also started Tuck Everlasting for March. In math we conducted a survey and played Family Feud with the "Brady" vs. "Garoppolo" families competing.

• Middle School Social Studies: To celebrate Women in History Month, each Student in the middle school will receive a name of a woman that changed history. Students will write a biography about this woman and insert a picture.

• Grade 8: Thank you to all who supported our 8th grade bake sale! It was a huge success!

Other News…

• A reminder that Ladies Choice and Gentlemen’s Choice forms are due by

March 26. • There will be a planning meeting for the

school auction, “Lights, Camera, Auction!” Tuesday, March 28 @ 7:15 in the

school. All are welcome! • Yearbook sales deadline is Friday, March 31st. Don’t

forget to order a yearbook! They are not available for purchase in June.
