FCE is ten years old this year! We are planning a celebration on April 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Please mark your calendars now. Stay tuned for more information. Everyone is invited!
Fall Creek’s fourth and fifth graders will be taking the state test, STAAR, on the following days:
Tuesday, April 10th: 4th Grade Writing, 5th Grade Mathematics Wednesday, April 11th: 5th Grade Reading
The state mandates that NO VISTORS will be permitted in the building during the STAAR testing. Additionally, the workroom will be closed and all volunteer activities are cancelled.
Please do not schedule dental and doctor appointments on these testing dates. Make sure your child has a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast. Thank you for your help in making these testing days great for our students.

Parent Satisfaction Survey
Parents can help our school in a meaningful way by taking a quick, anonymous Parent Satisfaction Survey. The last day to complete the survey is today, Tuesday, April 3rd. FCE Parent Survey 2017-2018
Responses will be analyzed to determine what is working well in our school and any areas that may need improvement. Humble ISD is conducting a survey for every school in the district. Parents with more than one child in our school should complete only one survey. If you have children in more than one school, you should complete a survey for each school.
The survey takes just a few minutes, but makes a big difference. Our school will use the results to guide our priorities and plans. We are asking all parents to participate. We appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions and experiences.
Marquee Birthdays
Want your child’s birthday celebrated on the new FCE Electronic Marquee? Due to high demand, we have decided to open up birthday sales for the new electronic marquee year-round. In order to effectively manage birthday marquee sales year-round, parents will need to purchase their child’s birthday announcement by the 15th of the month prior to their child’s birthday. For example, if you child’s birthday is December 5th, you will need to place your order by the 15th of November.
Orders placed on the 16th of the month will automatically be placed in the next month’s announcement. In the example above, if you placed your order on November 16th for your child’s December birthday, their birthday will be displayed the week of January 5th, instead of December 5th. When ordering, you may select “Happy Birthday xxx”, “Belated Birthday” or “Half Birthday” to cover any birthdays that may have been missed. The marquee will run year-round, so don’t forget to order your child’s summer birthday celebration. All summer birthdays must be submitted no later than May 15, 2018. We hope you enjoy this new option available to your family.
To order your child’s birthday, go to https://fcpto.membershiptoolkit.com/Open_Forms If you should have any questions regarding birthday celebrations, please contact Tricia Krebs at [email protected].
Please support Fall Creek Elementary at Chick-fil-A spirit night. Wednesday, April 4th from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. FCE will receive 20% of all sales. Remember you can dine in or drive thru. Let them know you’re with FCE when ordering. See you there!!

FAMILY TIP SHEETCommon Sense on Effective Email Communication
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
DIGITAL LITERACY AND CITIZENSHIP IN A CONNECTED CULTURE © 2012 www.commonsense.org 1
What’s the Issue? There is a high tolerance for misspellings and stream-of-consciousness ideas in text messages and informal emails. But what happens when kids need to write a formal message? Will they know how to change their writing style to match their audience? Sizing up your audience and making your words match are important skills for students to learn. Teaching our kids to evaluate their audience and create messages accordingly will help them gain more respect from their teachers and win better responses in any formal setting.
common sense saysEncourage your children to consider the audience and purpose of their email. Using a more formal tone with people they have never met is the safest and most respectful way to communicate.
Prompt kids to get right to the point. Most people have a lot of email to sift through. Keeping formal messages to one page is ideal.
Stress the importance of writing only what they would say to a person’s face. Anything kids would say over email should be something they are able to say to someone’s face.
Suggest to children that they use uppercase type only on rare occasions. Uppercase letters indicate that you are shouting. Kids should use them only if they really want to make a STRONG POINT.
Remind kids to proofread. They should check their spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting before sending an email.
Coach kids to use emoticons sparingly. Using smiley faces or exclamation points on occasion can help others understand their meaning in the absence of visual and vocal cues. However, they are usually inappropriate with more formal emails. :)
