Term 4 Week 5 2011 Phone: 4943 5695 Email: [email protected] K-2 Swimming The learn to swim program for our infants children starts on Monday. Parents of the children involved are asked to ensure the children are well equipped for their lesson. I strongly suggest parents apply sunscreen while the children dress for school. Mrs Hewitt & Mr Burke will be accompanying and supervising the children. Musical tickets The musical is well underway with lots of practices happening and excited children. The performance is on twice on 1st December being at NOON and again a 6 pm. The cost of entry is $5 per head. Tickets are available now and can be bought from the front office or by returning the order form further in this newsletter. I look forward to an enjoyable and entertaining show. Interrelate This is on tonight. As said last week the P&C is subsidising our families. Families are welcome to attend even if prior notice has not been given. Please see Raelene Thorn in the hall. Coles & Woollies dockets The support you provide to the school never ceases to amaze me. This is just one tangible way of demonstrating your support. We had a huge collection of Coles dockets and quite a lot from Woolworths. Orders have been placed and we will get a lot of equipment we would not have otherwise received. I sincerely thank you and ask you to pass this on to the many extended family members who helped with this. Jan Latta - Diary of A Wildlife Photographer Jan Latta will visit our school tomorrow, 10th November, to share her experiences with the children. A note was given to the children with information about this. I do commend this visit to you and suggest you do a Google on her. I’m sure you will agree with me that this will be a most worthwhile experience for the children. The cost of this visit is $3 per child. Jan will also have books on sale for $10ea. There are a couple of copies in the foyer if you would like to have a look. Order forms are in the office. ASR Surveys Thank you to those who gave their time to be surveyed last week. We have some good information to assist with planning. The responses to the “General Satisfaction with the School” were overwhelmingly positive. As one parent pointed out “Its a no brainer, with so many schools in the area, I wouldn’t send my children to a school I wasn’t very satisfied with”. We have a considerable number of non local children at our school and I take it as a great compliment that these families select HPS over their local school and in some cases drive a considerable distance to attend. I also know that the local families have considerable options and have also selected HPS. 2012 School Leaders It is that time of year where we are looking towards next year’s student leaders. Last week, after much discussion Year 5 nominated and voted on candidates for the captain positions. Only Year 5 students were involved in this first part of the process, as they know each other the best. We now have 9 candidates for the 4 positions. These students will present a speech to the whole school next Wednesday morning outlining the reasons why they would be good student leaders for our school. The K—5 students will then vote for their preferred leaders. Actual positions, captains and vice-captains will be announced on Presentation Day. Well done to all children who displayed a wonderful attitude during nominations. Steve Purdon Principal

Hi Hillsborough Public School and Community! November is the final month of the Allan's Music Oztunes Songwriting competition. As of November 1, we will need all the votes we can get, in order to take out one of the major prizes in this fantastic competition. Please vote for 6/5D's song MONDAY. We would like to pool our votes to maximise our chances of taking home any of the prize packs so please put your efforts into voting for this song. If we can take enough lead from the competition of course we can start to vote for some of our other songs as well, but most importantly let's get one song out in front first. The voting continues till midnight November 30th. We were just beaten in the finals due to our competitors voting well into the evening, that's where we need the support and votes to come through so get all your friends and family to vote at night time as well. How to vote; 1. Go the this website http://www.allansbillyhyde.com.au/ 2. Click on the Education tab and select "For Schools" 3. Click on the OzTunes National Schools songwriting competition banner 4. Click again on the OzTunes National Schools songwriting competition banner 5. You will need to register to vote or alternatively log in using my email account [email protected] to avoid registering student email or home accounts. 6. Click on Charts and Voting, select November from the drop down menu. 7. Find our song MONDAY in the list, click on the vote button and type in the verification code. (This code can be very tedious to get correct but please persevere as we need every vote we can get). 8. You should get a message saying, thank you for voting and that your vote had been cast. 9. Now please go back to the charts and voting page and continue to vote again and again. While you're on the website click on the prize packs tab and check out the amazing prizes on offer. You will soon see why voting and helping us to win is very important. Please pass this email on to your friends and family members in order to help raise our votes. Thank you everyone for your support in this National Song Writing Competition. Kind regards, Emma Stothard Assistant Principal

Hillsborough Public School Canteen 2012 Volunteers

No experience necessary, just a smile and a willingness to help!! The canteen comes under the umbrella of the P&C and is a major fundraiser for our School. The canteen is wholly run as a volunteer system. To remain open, we depend on the generosity of parents and friends. Doing canteen is a wonderful way to meet other parents/carers and form new friendships. Our children love to see mum, dad or a grandparent helping out in the canteen. Canteen volunteers commence at 9am and finish at the end of lunch at We are in the process of organising 2012. If you are interested in helping in the school canteen, please indicate below what days/frequency suit you. We understand that details may change, but we need an indication of the number of volunteers we may have next year. We hope you understand that due to insurance regulations, babies and preschoolers are not able to accompany you. Any questions, please call Julie Onslow on 0407 215 924 or my email address is [email protected]. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
