Kyogle Public School Newsletter DATE: Monday, 24 September 2018 TERM 3 WEEK 10 NO. 10 Principal: Drew Green Principal’s Message Today you would have received your NAPLAN test results. We are pleased that you tried your very best in these challenging tests and during the weeks and months leading up to them. I’d like you, your family, friends and teachers to remember that these tests are a snapshot that is unable to measure all of what it is that makes you the valued person who you are. The people who have created these tests and those that mark them don’t know you as well as your teachers know you, and certainly not the way your family and friends know you. They don’t know that you may be a great singer and dancer or that you can play a musical instrument really well. That you are a great athlete and terrific at swimming. They also don’t know how well you can write a story or draw beautiful pictures. They don’t know that you have a sense of humour which can bring a smile to your friend’s face and make them laugh or that they can rely upon you to support them when they need a kind and encouraging word. They wouldn’t know that you can write poetry and stories, play all types of different sports and have interesting and enjoyable hobbies. They also don’t know that you probably accept responsibility for taking care of your brothers or sisters from time to time. They don't know that you have travelled to or come from fascinating places and had amazing experiences. They don’t know how much you love spending time with your family and your close friends and they won’t know how much you are appreciated and loved by them. You are trustworthy, kind and thoughtful and you try to do your best every day. Do they know that? The NAPLAN test results give you some very specific information about yourself at one point in time but it can’t say everything about who you are and what you have achieved. You may not have revised the information you were being asked for yet. I hope you are happy with your results and that they inspire you to do even better in literacy and numeracy. Just remember that there is so much more to describe who you are that cannot be reflected in these NAPLAN scores. Drew Green Term 3 ends : Friday, 28 September 2018 Term 4 begins : Monday, 15 October 2018 The next P & C Meeting Tuesday, have been trying out Project Based Learning. For our first project we have linked our learning with our Science unit ‘On the Move’. We have been investigating why and how things move and how this depends on a variety of factors, including shape and size. The students brought in a variety of toys and objects from home that move and we explored how push and pull forces can make objects slide, bounce, spin etc. With the help of our Year 5 buddies we have planned how we could use a range of recyclable materials to make our own ‘moving toy’. In our final week of Term 3 we will put our knowledge to the test and create our toy!

Students had a great time away last week at Camp Koinonia. Lots of

memories were created and new friendships formed. I believe camps are so important for student development. Kids learn so much while away on a camp in a different environment, such as social skills, independence, teamwork and self confidence. Some students also tried different types of food that they would normally not eat at home, like salad! It’s also great for teachers to get to know students outside of a classroom. Knowing students allows teachers to better cater for them back in the classroom. I would like to thank the amazing staff that accompanied the students on camp. The late nights and early starts didn’t stop them from ensuring all students were well looked after and enjoying their time. Their dedication is admirable. Thank you Mr D, Mrs McCormick, Mrs Grace and Joy for making this camp so memorable. Daily Photos were placed on our blog if you would like to see what the kids got up to. https://kpsstage2excursion.blogspot.com/ Donna Caldwell Assistant Principal Stage 2

ALERT! There have been many Whooping Cough cases in the Kyogle area. It has been brought to our attention that Doctors need a direct request from you to swab to confirm if your child has it.
