Agenda Item No. AC-M-50.01: Confirmation of the Minutes of 49th meeting held on

December 06,2016.

No Comments have been received on the circulated Draft Minutes. The Academic Council

confirmed the Draft Minutes, as circulated.

Agenda Item No. AC-M-50.02: Announcements, if any, by the Chairperson.

1. Planning for Y14 UG batch for their 4th year and SLI (Semester Long

Internship)

• BTP for Y14 UG batch will remain in their 7th and 8th semester and their project

will be evaluated as per REVISED Guidelines ofBTP evaluation.

• Only students who fulfill all criteria of Fast Track Progression will be approved

for Semester Long Internship.

• Self-Study and/or Reading Course will only be for students whose application for

SLI is approved; others will not be able to opt these course(s).

• There will be a pre declared last date to apply for approval of Semester Long

Internship, all such requests need to be processed through proper channel.

• Applications received after last date and/or not fulfilling all the stipulations and

criteria will automatically be rejected.

• No student can avail Semester Long Internship without approval of Director.

2. Planning for Summer Term 2017

Chairperson asked Assistant Registrar - Academic to present the detailed planning of

Summer Term 2017. He emphasized that primarily only core course need to be

offered during Summer Term and Elective Course(s) (if required) be offered to the

graduating batch students ONLY to facilitate them to complete requirement of credits

for award of degree.

Chairperson also insisted that any course which needs to be offered during Summer

Term must be sent to Director for approval after having consent and recommendation

of HOD of concerned department and Dean (Academic).

3. New Curriculum Structure w. e. f. Y16N17 UG

Considering the discussions during various meeting of HODs and AC-UGC,

Chairperson suggested the following -

• Academic Inputs from professional societies is needed to keep pace with newer

job profile / requirements

• Academic audit from similar institute that are higher than ours could provide

directions.

• Curriculum must be designed in a way so that after 4 years students are equipped

both professionally & personally, increasing employability through quality ofT-L

& pedigree (brand equity) is also an important factor to be considered.

• There could be Different total credit requirement for various disciplines, therefore,

Total Credits for award of B. Tech. Degree be in the range of 146 - 150

• BTP needs to be offered only form Degree Awarding Departments as this will

help in portfolio building. Non degree awarding department may also contribute

by becoming co-supervisor for better outcome of the project.

• Mini Project be offered from all departments.

• Chairperson also suggested HOD of HSS to prepare a DPR for new PG programs,

such as MA in HSS.

4. Replacement of "PES" course for YI5 UG batch of CCE, CSE and ECE branch

as this was dropped from their curriculum.

Chairperson Academic Council requested HODs of concerned degree awarding

department to provide a suitable replacement of "PES" course in the form of one

program core course. He also requested Dean Academic to prepare a Notice to this

effect and be sent to all concerned students.

5. IE/IPSY course on cluster resulting in reduction of total credits by 3, w. e. f. YI5UG batch.

Chairperson Academic Council requested HODs of concerned degree awarding

department to provide replacement. He also requested Dean Academic to prepare a

Notice to this effect and be sent to all concerned students.

Agenda Item No. AC-M-50.03: To ratify the approval accorded by Chairperson

Academic Council for REVISED Guidelines of BTP Evaluation.

Academic Council ratified the approval accorded by Chairperson.

Agenda Item No. AC-M-50.04: To consider the Minutes of the meeting of the AC UGC

held on March 09,2017

Prof. R P Gorthi, Chairperson - AC-UGC presented minutes and important issues discussed

in the meeting of AC-UGC -

Summer Term 2017 Planning, BTP and SLI for Y14 UG Batch and New Curriculum

for Y16 and Y17 UG were covered in the presentation by Chairperson Academic Council.

Minor and Major Specialization from Engineering Departments: UG Programs of CSE,

ECE and ME Departments will offer, with effect from Y16 batch the following two

Specializations:

• Major Specialization: UG students of the same department can follow the structure and

following guidelines and obtain a Major Specialization -

~ Each of UG Degree Awarding Engineering Departments will announce the

availability of Major Specializations within their B. Tech Program by the end

of the UG II Year of each batch;

~ A minimum of four Program Elective courses (minimum 12 credits) to be done

in a prescribed sequence in order to obtain a Major Specialization in a given

UG Program;

~ Area ofBTP should be in the specialization track (06 Credits)

~ If the above requirements are not met, specialization will not be awarded.

~ After the completion of credits under Major Specialization track, it will be

mentioned in the Degree Certificate as "Bachelor of Technology in xxx with

Major Specialization in y.yy" (e.g. Bachelor of Technology in Computer

Science and Engineering with Major Specialization in Data Sciences).

• Minor Specialization: UG students of other departments can follow the structure and

following guidelines and obtain a Minor Specialization in ONE and ONLY ONE other

department -

~ The Minor Specialization by an Engineering Program is meant and is available

ONL Y to students of other Engineering Programs;

~ This is not part of the curriculum of other Engineering Programs; A student of

other Engineering Program has to earn the prescribed credits as extra credits;

~ Four courses (Program Core or Program Elective courses) will be identified by

each of the Engineering Programs which lead to Minor Specialization

(minimum 12 credits);

~ Number of students who can avail Minor Specialization will be a maximum of

5% of existing students of that batch; ALL these other Program students should

have a CGPA:::: 8.0/ 10.0 by the end of UG II year;

~ After the completion of the prescribed credits under Minor Specialization track,

it will be mentioned in the Degree Certificate as "Bachelor of Technology in

xxx with Minor Specialization inyyy".

Agenda Item No. AC-M-50.05 To consider the Minutes of the meeting of the AC PGC

held on March 07, 2017

Prof. G D Sharma, Chairperson - AC PGC presented this item with following important

points -

• Teaching Assistantship should be defined properly and each student must be assigned

to one department only.

• A proposal was made to exercise MoU and/or collaborations for PG students for

better future possibilities.

Chairperson Academic Council expressed that as per standard practice code number of B.

Tech. courses must start with I, 2, 3, 4 digit respectively as per the year of B. Tech. and 5 and

6 for PG courses and 7 for Ph. D. courses. NPTEL could be one of the source to find out

suitable courses for PG and Ph. D.

Agenda Item No. AC-M-50.06: To consider the Minutes of the meeting of the AC LAC

held on January 07, 2017

Dr. Vikram Sharma, Chairperson - LAC, presented this item with following important points-

Associate membership of E Shodh Sindhu Consortia, INFLIBNET.

February 2017 Associate membership of our Institute was approved by ESS, INFLIBNET.

And two resources-JSTOR and Mathscnet was subscribed on consortia rates for the year

2017.

Submission form for the Institutional repository.

In near future Library portal and related links will be uploaded on public domain. Assistant

Librarian was asked to share the BTP Report Submission form with all the members of LAC,

so that they can give their feedback.

External Request for Library Resources.

For the first time, library has received a request from external user, Ms Firasath Nabi, Ph D

Research Scholar, Department of Computer Sciences, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah

University, Rajauri, Jammu and Kashmir, India for the full text access of the M Tech thesis

of Ms Kirti Bhargava of 2009 batch. Assistant Librarian was asked to forward the full text

report while mentioning the note for the fair use and copyright.

A policy to donated Books/Journals/Newspapers to Library and archive or weed out

from the library. (Referring to AC M-47.10).

Following categories of materials can be considered for weeding out:

• Ephemeral material (e.g. newsletters, progress reports, pamphlets) including those

materials that lose value after a certain period of time such as: annual reports,

directories, yearbooks, etc. These can be weeded out annually.

• Duplicate issues of the journals may be weeded out.

• Material (Books, journals, reports) that library received as gifts/complementary by

individuals/institutions and organizations which have no relevance to Institute users.

• Books/Journals that have become unserviceable/mutilated due to heavy use, wear and

tear, obsolete/white ant old infected material.

Agenda Item No. AC-M-50.07: Any other item with the permission of the chair.

With the permission of Chair, students' representative requested the Academic Council to

reduce the CGPA criteria from minimum CGPA 7.00 to 6.50 for becoming eligible students'

gymkhana election. Rationale behind this is that there is very small number of students

between 7.00 and 7.50 as students having CGPA ~ 7.50 opt for Fast Track Progression and

do not show any interest towards students' gymkhana election.

Academic Council approved the same on one year experimental basis. Academic Council

also ruled that there will be complete ban on OJ inside the institute campus. OJ will not be

played in any activity or event.
