ACTIVITY INFORMATION

1 Activity : VISIT TO LIGNITE THERMAL POWER PLANT, PANDHROType : VisitDate: 12th Sepember 2018Venue: Pandhro

The plant is adjacent of Lignite mines (operated by Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation) andreceives lignite direct from the mines. There are four units presently in operation. KLTPS Unit-4has the CFBC boiler which is first time introduced in GSECL. The installed capacity is givenbelow: Unit – 170 MW Unit – 270 MW, Unit – 375 MW & Unit – 275 MW. Our main purpose forthis visit is to be familiar with industrial environment and to get practical knowledge of thermalenergy producing plant.

The aim of visit to KLTPS was to make the students understand power generation through thermalenergy produced from coal. The students were first briefed about how they get coal from Lignitecoal mines and how it is then used to generate power. Collected coal is refined and grinded to fineparticles and then used to generate steam in boiler by burning it. The generated steam is inputted togenerators and thus power generates.



CONCLUSION:From this visit, we get the information and knowledge about the components of thermal powerplant and its construction. We got very clear idea about the importance of different components ofthermal power plant. The visit greatly encouraged the students as they knew how an engineer canuse his skills to the industries to benefit society and self. They got a chance to transfer theirtheoretical knowledge to practical implication.

2 Activity : VISIT TO MUNDRA PORTType : VisitDate: 11th September 2018Venue : Mundra

The Mundra port is operate by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) ispromoted by Adani Group. The Port of Mundra is a private port and is also a special economiczone. Incorporated in 1998 as Gujarat Adani Port Limited (GAPL), the company began operating in2001. The combined company was renamed “Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Limited.”.The gulf acts as a natural shelter for the port, facilitating 24x7 safe berthing, unberthing and vesseloperations. The port also provides a distance advantage to the northern and western hinterland ofIndia vis-a-vis other ports. This makes it the natural gateway for the cargo hubs functioning in thenorthern and western states of India as well as the NCR. Mundra.

Our main purpose for this visit is to be familiar with industrial environment and to get practicalknowledge of operation of harbor and various components of harbor. And also familiar with theheavy machinery used to handle the materials and cargoes.

CONCLUSION :From this visit, we gathered the information and learned to utilize practical knowledge like designof harbor and shipyard. Students learned clear idea about theoretical and practical design parameter.There should be at least one visit arrangement like such interaction with Industry experts.

Lecturer Mr. Govind Solanki shared his expertise on the history of Higher education. He beganwith the introduction of Higher education for MBA, M.tech and elaborate the importance of Highereducation. He explain better option for Chemical Engineering students for Higher education onIIT,TTSc,NITs ect... and other better option for jobs in PSU, Private and Government sector. Siralso shared his expertise on the history of PSU Sector. He began with the introduction of PSU &Private Sector and meaning of each acrobat it. He said about Requirement Process of PSU, Private& Government Sector.

Purpose of Expert Talk :

1 . Students are aware about higher education in IITs, NITs and IISc.2. Students are aware and thinking about his future.3. Students are aware about Competitive exam like GATE4. Students are learnt about requirement process of PSU, Private and Government Sector.

In This Event Technical Questions were Asked to Students, participants and audience increase theirknowledge in technical field and in second round technical and general knowledge questions wasasked participants and audience increase their technical and general knowledge.
