The evening formally begins at 6.30pm, although parents are invited to purchase uniform from 5.45pm. The Year 6 Induction Day takes place on Thursday 5 July and our new Year 7 intake will experience a day in the life of a Woodkirk student. Year 6 students should arrive for 9am and will finish at 2.30pm. Woodkirk Academy proves, yet again, to be a popular choice for prospective parents. There were considerably more applications for a place than are available and it is pleasing to welcome so many happy parents to the Academy. Parents’ Uniform Surgery Mr Cook invites parents of all students to attend our ‘Uniform Surgery’ in preparation for next year. You are welcome to bring in any newly purchased items of uniform, with tags still on, to check they follow the Woodkirk guidelines and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about our school uniform. These sessions will take place each week on a Tuesday afternoon, 2pm-4pm, running until we finish for the summer on Friday 20 July. We will also be running our ‘Uniform Surgery’ on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 September at 3pm.

BlushPHOTOGRAPHY

If you are attending Year 11 Prom on Friday 29 June, Blush Photography will be there to help capture your special memories. Here are a few tips they have sent us for the night….

Come and see us early! The queues can get pretty mad during the prom but for the first hour it’s usually quite quiet. If you come early enough, you can get your photograph taken and printed, beat the queues and enjoy the rest of your night! We are ready and waiting at all proms by 6.30pm, so even if you nip in whilst waiting for your friends to arrive, you can always go back outside again.

Have a photograph on your own!! You have spent so much time / money on your outfit, hair and make-up, a full length photograph on your own is a lovely keepsake for you and your parents to remember your special night. Photographs are two for £10 so you could have one on your own and then with a friend / partner / group...

Grab your friends for a group photo!! This will probably be the last time you're all together, so grab your friends and strike a pose!

There's no minimum / maximum amount you can buy! Photographs are £7.50 each or two for £10 so you could just have one on your own (£7.50) or have six taken with different people (£30). It's your night, your photographs!! Whatever you pay for on the night you get to take home with you. No waiting around for proofs and prints. We shoot, you pay and take away!!

Music Lessons for Next Year

If you would like your child to start music lessons next year (instrument or singing) please email Mrs Clarke [email protected] Lessons cost £72 a term and paperwork must be completed by the end of June. Likewise, if your child does not wish to continue with lessons, please let Mrs Clarke know. Students stopping lessons who hire instruments MUST return instruments directly to Mrs Clarke and not to the store room.

Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra The Leeds Youth Jazz-Rock Orchestra (LYJRO) is recruiting new members! They are a band of around 20 members and regularly play at festivals, such as the Kirkstall Festival and the Jazz Leeds Festival, which they are opening this summer. They also collaborate with other groups, as well as putting on regular concerts of their own each term. In recent years, they have also been on tour to Germany and South Africa. They would especially like to hear from brass players – particularly trombonists - and rhythm section players (guitar, bass, piano and drums), but would welcome anyone who is interested in playing jazz or rock music in a group. The majority of their players are around Grade 5 standard or above, but a passion for jazz and rock music is what is most important to them. The next open rehearsals are being held; Dates Monday 2 July 2018 Time: 5pm-7pm Location: Pudsey Civic Hall, Dawson’s Corner, Leeds, LS28 5TA If you have any further questions please email art forms [email protected].

Summer Concert Wednesday 4 July 7pm Tickets for our annual summer concert are now on sale. This will feature performances from our extra-curricular groups as well as some class and solo performances. There will also be hot food served by ‘Friends of the School’ from 6pm and during the interval. Please note that the concert has changed from the original date on the school calendar. For more information please contact Mrs Clarke [email protected]

Food Technology Due to the amount of food being left we cannot keep anything after Friday 2pm, when the fridges and freezers in Design Technology will be emptied. If for any reason food needs to be left after this time it needs to be agreed with the class teacher or the Technician, Miss Smithers. There is also a huge amount of Tupperware being left and not collected too. All equipment that has been borrowed need to be returned as soon as possible to any member of the Design Technology Department. Thank you for your continued assistance.

Parking

Major problems have been experienced with parents trying to drive in and out of the school at the end of the day. This practice creates a serious health and safety risk, as does using the bus bay as a ‘pick-up’ point at the end of school. We have also received a complaint from Arriva Bus Company of the danger posed to students on Rein Road and the bus drivers trying to negotiate their way in and out of school due to parents ignoring the rule of parking on the school side only of Rein Road. The police have been informed of this concern. May we remind parents of the following rules:

Please only collect your child by car if it is absolutely necessary. The congestion on Rein Road at 3pm is becoming increasingly more dangerous for our students.

Please only park on the school side of Rein Road, but not on the yellow, zig-zag lines as this is illegal.

Do not park in the bus bays or enter the school grounds between 2.50pm and 3.10pm. Buses must have easy access in and out at all times.

Please do not drive up or down the driveway between 2.50pm and 3.10pm Monday to Thursday and 1.50pm to 2.10pm on Friday. Our students’ safety is paramount. You may park in the visitors’ car park, arriving before 2.50pm but must remain there until 3.15pm (Monday to Thursday). On Friday you must arrive before 1.50pm and remain there until 2.15pm. However, the parking spaces near the school reception are limited.
