APS TEAM WITH UIPT/45S

1. Site Manager welcomed the personnel gathered at APS meeting hall including UIPT/45S, and informed that the aim of this gathering is a part of safety day program for the year 2014. HSEA informed that PDO is observing safety day on every year since 2007 and the theme of the current year is “The Basics-Comply”. Explained about the PDO directive with regards to how to organize safety day by presenting power point slides. Informed that the aim of the safety day is to create a positive behavior & attitude towards safety among personnel as well as to create a good safety culture in the organization since absence of the same are the main causes of all unsafe actions. Further explained about the importance of “Comply” in terms of various Laws, Procedures, Standards other PDO and National rules & regulations in eliminating/minimizing incidents and accidents from the site. Reminded about various Non Compliances committed by APS crew during the contract and learning points of the same is discussed. All personnel swear that they will not repeat the same non compliances in future. Informed that the maximum fatalities and permanent disabilities occurring in PDO area is due to road traffic accidents and emphasized the importance of effective implementation of Safe Journey Management system in order to minimize RTA’s. He further intimated that there is no magic to control RTA’s but by having good rules, knowing the rules and complying the rules only we can control fatal accidents. Raoul’s Message and HSE performance chart also explained in the meeting.

Reminded PDO HSE Golden rules (You and I (a) COMPLY with the law, standards and procedures. (b) INTERVENE on unsafe or noncompliant actions and (c) RESPECT our neighbors) and Life saving rules. Also reminded all that HSE remains No-1 priority and use EMPOWERMENT to Stop unsafe work.

2 GROUP DISCUSSION A group discussion on following topics, as directed in PDO safety day notification, conducted with the aim to inculcate a positive attitude towards safety . 1. What do you think are the main reasons of Non-Compliance. Following opinions received from different groups with regards to above question.

Tendency to make short cut Negative attitude Lack of knowledge Over confidence in the ability Lack of communication Language barrier Complicated and vague training syllabus

and teaching method Complicated and excess of procedures Shortage of resources Work pressure due to un scientific work

schedule Superiority complex Absent mind due to family as well as

work related problems Lack of motivation and appreciation Revenge mentality

2. What does the term ‘Comply’ mean for you? Most of the personnel opined that The term Comply means obeying various Procedures,Standards other PDO & National regulations. 3. What do you think are the most important rules to comply with? Majority of personnel told that the most important rules to comply with is Life Saving Rules since Life of personnel is more precious than everything. Few have opined that Golden Rule is the most important rule since it consists of comply and with the absence of comply all other rules & regulations will be ineffective.

4. What are the impacts of non-compliance? Various personnel told that following will be the impacts of non-compliance:- Loss of Life, Personal Injury, Asset Damage, Environmental pollution, loss of reputation of organization, Economic loss, Legal actions 5. How can you encourage others to comply? Following opinions received:- By positive motivation, By setting self as an example to others, By providing incentives/rewards, By convincing the consequences of non compliances, By reminding their family, By threatening with legal consequences 6. Does your supervisor effectively ensure compliance? Majority answered Yes.

3 ADVISE BY UIPT/45S UIPT/45S Mr. Sarhan Al Jaber addressed the gathering and reminded about the aim of safety day and advised everybody that complying with laws, standards and procedures has paramount important and is mandatory for all in order to prevent incidents and accidents. Explained different examples of non compliance and informed all that PDO Golden rule is the root of all other rules & regulations. Further he interacted with the personnel including Nationals and advised to come up with innovative suggestions and solutions to minimize accidents and to save valuable lives.

4 QUIZ COMPETITION A quiz competition on HSE related topic was conducted in order to enhance the HSE awareness and also to inculcate a competitive spirit towards safety among the personnel. Total 04 teams were formed in discipline wise(Including Nationals) and first three positions have been selected for cash awards.
