KEY FEATURES DEDICATED SIMULATOR The dental simulator is a high-quality, high delitysimulator for teaching dental students how to drill in adedicated environment. The unprecedented realism ofthe visual, haptic and audio experience gives optimaltransfer from the trainer to actual practice.

INTERFACE Courseware created by the renowned ACTA instituteis available with the trainer to support a full, moderndental curriculum. The courseware is displayed ona screen carried by a separate arm. The coursewareinterface is open, and different types of courseware canbe easily interfaced to the trainer if desired.

CENTRAL MANAGEMENT Exercises for a number of training stations can bemonitored and replayed on a central instructor station.

HAPTIC BURR The haptics is based on the patented Moog admittancecontrol paradigm. The use of a force sensor in the drillhand piece allows unusually crisp and realistic renderingof drill and contact forces. The hardness of the enamelis faithfully replicated, and easily distinguished fromdentin and pulpa. Rotations of the drill hand piece arefelt and re ected on screen, as well as the forces on thetip of the burr. A library of hand piece and burr shapes isavailable.

DENTAL MIRROR A tracked dental mirror handle allows realisticinspection of the teeth from all sides. The image is"seen" in the visual display, together with rest of themouth. The dental mirror and its mirror image are a truesize, natural and realistic part of the visual scene.

FOOTPEDAL A real foot pedal is used to control the speed of thevirtual drill.

VISUAL DISPLAY The very sharp, true size collocated visual displayapproaches the acuity limits of the human eye.Projection and mirror technology allow the fullresolution, full stereo image to be seen "in" the physicalworkspace of the hand piece.

AUDIO A realistic model of the behavior of the drill speed,under the control of the foot pedal and the forceexerted by the student on the drill, drives a built in soundmodule which faithfully renders the sound of an air rotoror other types of drill.

TOOTH LIBRARY A growing library of scans of real teeth is available foruse in the exercises. Like courseware, tooth scans fromvarious sources can be added to increase the variety andthe realism in the simulator.
