DSS Castor evolution in two years

• Since 2008– 40 minor releases:

https://savannah.cern.ch/files/?group=castor– Released 2.1.7, 2.1.8 (repack, xroot), 2.1.9 (new

test suite, syslog)

• Effort focused on reducing operational cost and architecture simplifications

DSS Today Data Storage Services

• Castor 2.1.9 very stable– All efforts focussed on further consolidation– New monitoring with detailed indicators for both

stager and SRM performances

• SRM v2.9 released– Addresses the SRM instabilities reported during

the December LHC run– Includes also improved monitoring

DSS Outlook for the future

• Several years of stable operation on the horizon– Return of investment is coming– Focus development effort on further consolidation

• In particular, improve Castor interfaces for physics analysis– Xroot and direct file system access– Integration with ROOT clients for analysis– Integration with native xroot instances offering low

latency read/write storage for analysis
