BULLHORN TYPE CYLINDERS

211BH “Bullhorn” CylinderThere are several different ways to steer outboard motors, mostly depending on the room available and the design of

the individual boat's engine well. By far the most popular of our Outboard steering cylinders are the “bullhorn” units.

The new 211BH cylinder is the latest in our range of top quality marine steering cylinders, utilising state-of-the-art

reinforced horn mouldings for absolute electrolytic insulation and high impact absorbtion which gives added

protection to the tiller mounting bolt.

What sets these HyDrive cylinders apart from the competition

is the materials used to build them. While other brands use

only anodised or painted aluminum alloy cylinders, the

HyDrive Admiral Series offers Chromed Brass,

Bronze and stainless steel - truly built for the

toughest marine environment. The 211BH

cylinder mounts very simply to the tilt-tube of the

outboard motor and fits neatly under the front of the

motor cowling. The compact design requires only 540mm clearance, considerably less space than our competitors.

Designed for use with single outboards up to 300HP or dual (counter-rotating) outboards up to combined 600HP.

BOSUN SERIES - Model 411BH

The model 411BH is a hard wearing and robust version of the

211BH made from anodised aluminium, and ideal for pleasure

use on outboards. This model is the perfect alternative to

other aluminium cylinders on the market as it features the

same electrolytic insulation design of the Model 211BH, which

ensures the most advanced protection against corrosion in a

low priced steering cylinder. Designed for use with single

outboards up to 300HP or dual (counter-rotating) outboards

up to combined 600HP.

It comes in kit for single station monohull: - BOSUN-KIT-1

Some model Honda outboards require BOSUN-KIT-1-HONDA

Admiral Series 210BH - Capable of handling single or

multiple outboard engine installations up to 1200HP

combined, this heavy duty version of the 211BH is the ideal

choice for high performance or heavy commercial use.

Admiral Series 210BH-HP - the Extra Security version of the

210BH is designed for extremes. Supplied with split pin

security on all threaded items, it ensures that vibration and

horsepower installations

216V cylinder

HyDrive has released the new 216V sterndrive cylinder for VOLVO which is now being supplied as the standard model for all VOLVOKIT systems. The new model is designed for use on the Volvo Model DPS & SX sterndrives and has a new type of mounting plate, new drag link and spherical rod-end for better alignment. The cylinder is internally stroke-limited to avoid collision with the transom shield.

While the unit looks similar to the popular 210MERC cylinder for Mercruiser sterndrives, they are not interchangeable. Basic specifications of the VOLVO and MERCRUISER systems are the same - only the cylinder model is changed.

The original 210V cylinders should only be used on the older DPD to DPE models.

The new cylinder is more expensive, but does include the drag link which was not required with the older model and has heavier piston rod and rod-end, making it a significantly different unit.

Note: This cylinder type should only be used in installations where the standard 210T or 210TSE type cylinder cannot be used due to restricted side clearance. For POWER STEERING systems supplied with the stern-drive use the SPORTKIT

The heart of the Admiral Series is the HyDrive

Model 101( 28cc/rev) and 102 (35cc/rev) helm unit.

These 7-piston pumps are precision manufactured

to standards and tolerances that are second to

The HyDrive Admiral Tilt-helm unit is designed to mount flat to any surface and give a tilt angle of up to 20 degrees in each direction. Perfect for that awkward flybridge or lower vertical bulkhead.

Available only as the model 101 equivalent, this tilt helm combines a great water resistant design and practical good looks. It is ideal for leisure and light commercial use - subject to being used to turn the wheel and not to support the weight of the operator in heavy seas - see warning.

POWER STEERING TILT HELMHyDrive can now offer probably the only full tilting power-steering helm unit. This is not to be confused with a manual helm which may be used on a servo-system, but a fully dedicated power hydraulic helm unit. WARNING RE: USE OF TILT MECHANISM

It is important to note that the tilt mechanism attached to this steering helm is designed to transmit the wheel turn through an angle of +/- 20 degrees and is fully adjustable. It is a rather complex device with several moving parts and is not designed for use as a support for full body weight in heavy seas.

The weight of an average build person being thrown around in heavy seas can generate a large amount of force onto the rim of the steering wheel. This force is multiplied by the lever effect of the steering wheel and can result in internal damage to the tilt unit. Simply rotating the steering wheel normally to ‘steer’ the boat cannot damage it.

Boat operators should use grab-rails to support their weight whilst standing and not rely on the strength of the steering

unit itself.
