Patient and Population Data

Patient data are derived from the UDS count of patients by ZIP Code for all health centers

• UDS data are submitted to HRSA by HCP grantees and look-alikes (collectively referred to as “health centers”) every calendar year

A variety of demographic data on the total population, including health, economic, and social factors, are also available

www.udsmapper.org

Data in the UDS Mapper: Geographic Level (1)

The majority of data in the UDS Mapper are shown by ZCTA using 2010 ZCTA boundaries

Why does the UDS Mapper use ZCTAs?• Health centers report patients by ZIP Code; however, ZIP

Codes are simply driving routes, created by the US Postal Service

• ZCTAs are an approximation of the area covered by ZIP Codes, created by the US Census Bureau

Data in the UDS Mapper: Geographic Level (2)

In most cases, a ZIP Code very closely matches a ZCTA

For reference, the ZIP Code to ZCTA Crosswalk shows all ZIP Codes and the corresponding ZCTAs https://www.udsmapper.org/zcta-crosswalk.cfm

Data Showing Unmet Need

Data representing unmet need can be found in two places in Main Maps

UDS Data: Not Served by Health Centers At the bottom of the tool regardless of whether you are in the Population Data or UDS Data section, Not Served by Health Centers Dot Density

• Dot density layers can be layered on top of any Main Map• One dot = 100 people with unmet need from the ZCTA• Dots are randomly placed within the ZCTA
