SYSTEM PACKAGEBasic market needs for current data center designs are addressed through SEMCO’s simple approach. This system, designed specifically for data centers, incorporates few components with an easy to maintain and logical hydronic coil system achieving a typical annual Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) of 1.122 (based on Washington DC area conditions).

The diagram above shows the basic piping arrangement between the two airstreams. Designed to handle a range of temperature differentials, this high-efficiency system not only rejects heat for the data center, but also starts to economize at an outdoor ambient temperature within 10 degrees of the desired process side leaving air temperature! This is 20-30 degrees warmer (sooner) than other air-to-air competitive options.

PUMP AND REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

PANEL SOLUTIONS FOR SUPERIOR PLENUMS

The key technology to lower PUE and low power input is the use of EC components (fans and pumps); however, the secret is the simple pumping design and screw chiller technology.

The run-around system incorporates high capacity coils and a pump configuration that understands load management under all conditions.

When ambient temperatures are too high and do not create the necessary leaving water temperature, only then does the chiller operate to provide

In the event that the scavenger supply water is warmer than the process return, the system will transfer into a more traditional dry cooled chiller configuration to prevent overburdening the chiller with its own heat. It should be noted that this only occurs during the few

hours when the outdoor ambient temperature is greater than 90 degrees.

When the outside air has cooler or cold conditions, the scavenger fans reduce in speed to further save energy. The pumps continue to run as air friction is more detrimental than fluid friction.

Data centers are actually large air handling units. The load is placed within this “air handler” and forced air is passed to dissipate heat. SEMCO’s AT-PANL Solutions provide acoustic-thermal plenum systems that are designed to distribute air efficiently, effectively and quietly.
