suggested an improvement to DAT Power 2 and you voted on that suggestion as well, both of you would receive an email if we changed the status of that suggestion from ‘Under Review’ to ‘Planned’.

When giving feedback, take note of the articles that appear when you start to type your suggestion. It’s very possible that we’ve received the very same feedback already. If that is the case, click on the corresponding article to see the full description and any comments that are related. If the article does correspond to your suggestion, please vote on it. The more unique votes we get from individual customers, the higher visibility the request will get.

If no article matches, finish describing your suggestion and click the “Send Message” button. Broker Exercise 1 – Locating Feedback

Navigation

As a broker who primarily advertises available freight and searches for available equipment, we have conveniently grouped those functions together at the top of the screen.

Note: If you are on a Broker-only subscription, ‘Post Trucks’ will not be an available option.

You will just need to click on Post Loads or the Search Trucks tabs to access those screens. In addition to the freight matching options here, you also have links to RateView™ by clicking the Rates link at the top, and to our DAT Directory™ by clicking on Directory. These tools can be instrumental in regards to identifying rates in the lanes you operate and researching companies with whom you plan to do business.

Posting Your Loads Posting the loads that you have available is the single best way to let available carriers know who you are and how to contact you. Avoid “cold-calling” carriers that may or may not have the bandwidth to haul your freight if you can avoid that. By posting your load, carriers will call you instead, saving you time and money. Access the Post Loads screen now by clicking the tab at the top and let’s take a look at what you will see.

This is your ‘load dashboard’ as it displays the loads that you have entered into DAT’s database, while displaying the details and status of each load posted. DAT Power 2 lets you post one load at a time, or multiple loads at one time. First we will cover a single load posting.

Posting a Single Load

Let’s start posting a load to DAT’s database by clicking on the “New Load Post” button.

Page 12: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

This form will allow you to provide the important details that a carrier will need to find this freight in the database.

The details entered on this posting will be visible to all DAT customers. The form consists of several fields, some required (*) and some optional. Let’s review.

1. Pickup*: The date or date range that the load is available. A specific time frame can be entered here as well (e.g. 8a – 10a). To select a date range, hold your “Shift” button down on your keyboard and select the range on the calendar.

2. Origin*: The city, state that the load is picking up in.

3. Destination*: The specific city that the load is going to.

4. Dock Hours: The timeframe that the load is available to drop off.

5. Equipment Type*: The type of trailer that you need to haul your load.

6. Full or Partial*: This indicates whether it’s a full or partial load.

When posting your load, the more details you provide (e.g. commodity, rate, etc), the more efficient your contact with carriers will be. You will spend less time on the phone answering questions that could be answered here.

An easy method for entering cities is to type in the ZIP code and then selecting the desired city from the dropdown menu.

Page 13: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 12 6/17/2015

7. Length*: The minimum length of trailer that is needed for your load, in feet (ft).

8. Weight*: The weight of the load being posted, in pounds. Entering a ‘k’ after a number will multiply that number by 1000. (4k = 4000lbs)

Note: Weights in DAT Power 2 are in pounds, not in thousands of pounds. If you enter a value of less than 1,000, you will be asked if you meant to use thousands of pounds. Because weights are now in pounds, the minimum weight is now 1 pound (down from 1000) and the maximum weight is now 999,999 (raised from 999,000).

9. Offer Rate: Type in your rate and select Per Mile or Flat rate.

10. Contact Method*: Indicate the contact method that will be visible to other customers

11. Ref ID #: A number or code used to uniquely identify a load. This number cannot be the same as any other reference number you have already used. (This is a great tool to use when posting a large volume of freight)

12. Commodity: Enter the type of commodity that will be hauled. (70 character max)

13. Comments 1 and 2: Used to specify any additional information that the customer feels is necessary regarding the load. (70 character max in each)

Note: Fields like Commodity and Comments have ‘counters’ that show you how many characters you have remaining that you can enter.

Many carriers prefer to see the rate displayed in the details of the posting. Posting your rate can help eliminate unwanted phone calls from carriers and can cut down on the time you spend on the phone with the ones that are interested.

14. Set audible alarm: Click this option if you would like DAT Power 2 to create a search with an alarm notification that will automatically be visible from your ‘Search Trucks’ tab for viewing once you submit the posting. When this option is selected, the image will turn orange as seen here.

15. Post to DAT Extended Network: Click this option if you would like to have your load posted to the extended network where drivers can see those loads through our free MyDAT Trucker Services app available for Android and iPhones. Posting with option costs $2 per posting, per day and currently exposes your loads to over 100,000 drivers that use the app. When this option is selected the image will turn orange and the estimated cost of the posting will be displayed as seen here.

When finished completing the form, click . If any of the required fields are not filled out, or if they are not recognized by DAT, the posting will fail to submit. DAT Power 2 will show you what parts of the form are incorrect so you can quickly resolve the issue and resubmit.

Once the posting has been submitted correctly, it will appear as one of your loads on the Post Loads screen.

DAT Solutions 14 6/17/2015

Note: Once the origin, destination and equipment type is selected on a posting, DAT Power 2 will display the Broker Spot Rate, Best TriHaul rate and the trip miles for the specified lane.

Use this feature to see what rates are being reported to us in the lanes you are operating.

Posting Multiple Loads

To post multiple loads at one time, click . This will launch the file upload feature. In order to upload multiple loads at one time, you will need a spreadsheet containing a list of your loads that you can select. You can download a template of the file upload form directly from DAT.

Note: Supported file types include CSV, XLS and XLSX.

Once you have selected your upload file, click the “Next” button. At this point you will have to map the data provided in order for DAT Power 2 to understand what each column indicates. Mapping the data is a one-time deal unless a change is ever made to the format of the file being uploaded.

Note: The mapping that is setup at this stage is shared with all members in the group.

Mapping consists of dragging and dropping the column headers from “Your File” to the corresponding columns under “Mapped Columns.”

Once all of the columns from “Your File” have been mapped below, you are ready to proceed by clicking the “Next” button. Now you will see a preview of your postings and any errors that may have occurred while Power 2 read the file.

Any field highlighted in orange was not understood by Power 2 and will need to be edited and fixed before proceeding. Click on the “Edit” button to fix the error. In this example, “K” will need to be changed to “F” or “P” depending on whether it’s full or partial. Once the error is fixed, click “Apply.”

When you have all errors resolved, click the “Post Loads” button at the bottom of the screen and all of your postings will be submitted at one time.

Broker Exercise 2 – Posting a Load

Posting Views

DAT Power 2 adds the ability to see your postings from different views. This allows you to manage postings more effectively by switching Posting Views in a variety of ways:

All: Displays all postings regardless of their status.

Posted: Displays only postings that are currently active.

Unposted: Displays postings that have been cancelled or removed within 24 hours of being posted.

You can submit your postings prior to fixing errors that are reported back to you by clicking the “Post Loads” button at the bottom of the screen. This will transmit all of the postings with no error immediately and allow you to focus just on the postings that have an error.

Page 18: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 17 6/17/2015

Expired: Displays postings that have expired (older than 24 hours and younger than 48 hours).

Kept: Postings that have been saved and will be retained indefinitely in DAT Power 2. (If you use a lane frequently we recommend using the “Keep” feature to save you time when posting loads).

Note: The ‘Kept’ postings will display in the DAT Power client as “Expired”. If you delete the posting from DAT Power 2 then it will remove the ‘Kept’ posting from DAT Power as well. These postings will eventually disappear from DAT Power (client).

Group: This serves two purposes. o Displays all postings that are sent to DAT via FTP (eg. Keypoint, Mcleod, etc). o Displays postings that other users in your office group have posted.

Each “Posting View” will only display up to 500 postings at one time based on your sort order. If at any point you cannot find a particular posting that should be present, try re-sorting your postings by a different method.

Managing Your Postings Once you’ve entered some load postings, you will need to manage them for the duration of the time that the load is still available. For instance, you may need to cancel a posting if you now have it booked, or you may need to update the posting to include new information. Let’s walk through these scenarios.

Cancel (Unpost) a Posting

Just as it is important to post your load’s availability with DAT, it’s equally important to remove it from the database once it is booked. This will prevent further phone calls from interested carriers as an ‘Unposted’ posting will no longer show up as a match for them. As with many functions of DAT Power 2, you can accomplish this using multiple methods. One method is to simply click on the Posted button and watch the status change to Unposted.

Page 19: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 18 6/17/2015

Another method to cancel a posting is to select the posting by ‘checking’ it and using the action menu to complete the desired action.

When the box is checked, selecting the dropdown arrow will give you the following menu:

Selecting ‘Unpost’ at this point will remove the posting from DAT’s database, but will allow it to stay on your screen in case you would like to do more with it in the future.

Hovering over a status button will show you the action of clicking on that button.

Hovering over will display so that you will understand what clicking on the button will do.

Broker Exercise 3 – Cancelling a Posting

Edit a Posting

Editing your posting can come in quite handy if you need to change the details of that load in any way. For instance, if you need to change the rate offered on a posting you submitted from $1500/flat to $1750/flat, start by clicking on the posting itself to expand it. The image below shows what the posting looks like ‘expanded.’

Click the “Edit” button and you will now have the chance to change the Rate to $1750/flat.

Click the “Save” button and the changes you made will be applied.

Note: Unlike previous versions of DAT’s freight matching services, DAT Power 2 allows users to edit ANY and ALL fields of a posting.

Broker Exercise 4 – Edit a Posting

Copy a Posting

Copying a posting is fundamentally the same as editing a posting, but creates a new posting using the original posting as a template.

You can adjust multiple postings at one time! When you check more than one box in front of a posting, the above pictured menu is accessible by clicking the dropdown arrow and will allow you to complete the selected action on each of the checked postings at one time.

Page 21: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 20 6/17/2015

Follow the same steps listed above for editing, but click the “Copy” button instead.

Note: Posting the same load more than once in the database offers no value to you. It will not generate more results on alarm matches and it is a source of frustration to carriers. It could result in carriers filtering you out of their searches and alarms, which negatively impacts your ability to move freight.

Delete a Posting

When you are finished with a posting and no longer need it, you can delete it from your view.

Select the checkbox in front of the posting(s) you wish to delete. Click the dropdown arrow above and choose Delete from the action menu.

You can also delete a single posting by expanding its details and clicking the “Delete” button. Broker Exercise 5 – Delete a Posting

Refresh a Posting

Do you want your load to look brand new to the carriers searching for it? DAT Power 2 allows you to do this with ease. After the load has been in the DAT database for 15 minutes, it can be ‘refreshed’ to appear as new. This can be helpful as those searching for your load may only be searching for loads that are one hour old or younger.

Page 22: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 21 6/17/2015

You can perform this action before the posting is 15 minutes old, but the load will be queued up to refresh when the 15-minute threshold has been crossed. As with most functions, refreshing can be done with more than one method. You can select a posting, or multiple postings, and use the action menu to select “Refresh.”

Selected postings beyond the 15-minute threshold will be refreshed immediately and any posting under 15 minutes old will be queued to be refreshed when the threshold is crossed. You can also refresh your load posting by clicking on the age of the posting. Hovering over this area of the posting will show you the action it will perform. In this first example the posting is just 9 minutes old. Hovering over the age displays the following:

When clicked, this posting will automatically refresh in 6 minutes and appear brand new. When a posting is queued to refresh, the ‘Age’ section will appear orange and will show a countdown until the refresh occurs.

Broker Exercise 6 – Refresh a Posting

Rollover a Posting

Have you ever got to the end of the day and that load you were trying to get covered is still sitting there without a pickup scheduled? DAT Power 2 has you covered there as well. Any active posting that you wish to ‘rollover’ to the next day is just a click away now with no editing required. Select one or more postings by checking the box at the beginning and using the drop down arrow to select Rollover from the list

Page 23: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 22 6/17/2015

You can also rollover your load posting by clicking on the ‘Pickup’ section of the posting. Hovering over this area of the posting will show you the action it will perform.

Once a posting is selected to rollover, the Pickup section of that posting will appear orange, and the rolled-to date is shown. Carriers searching for your load will still find it available for today, and will also find it available for the rolled-to date as well.

To cancel a rollover that you have selected, click on the orange area indicating that it’s rolling over. Hovering over this area shows you the action.

Important Information Regarding Rollovers:

A posting cannot be rolled over if it has remained posted on the board for 5 consecutive business days. As a workaround, you can Unpost and Repost the load, and then roll it over.

A posting may only be rolled over when the available date has arrived and the posting is due to expire that day.

An icon to allow rollover will only be present on a posting if it is eligible for Rollover. If no icon is present, it means the available date is in the future or the posting is not

Page 24: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

expiring that day.

If you need to change the pickup date on a posting that is set to rollover, you should first cancel the rollover.

Broker Exercise 7 – Rollover a Posting

Keep a Posting (Drafts/Templates)

To ‘Keep’ a posting means to save it indefinitely for future use. This can be very useful when you need to constantly repost the same load over and over. For instance, if you always have a load with the same dimensions going from Houston to Chicago, type the information in once and ‘Keep’ it so you can just reuse it at any time.

Doing this is easy. Simply click the in front of the posting you want to keep and it’s there to stay. Hovering over the star will indicate the function of clicking on it.

Clicking the star will highlight it in orange . To ‘Unkeep’ the posting and remove it, click the star again and it will return to being gray. You can access your ‘Kept’ postings at any time by clicking the ‘Kept’ link under your Posting Views.

Important Information Regarding Kept vs. Not Kept

Unlike drafts or templates, there are no labels, and all post data is retained when a posting is kept, including dates and reference ID. The reference ID will not be copied if you use the Copy button (as is the case for copying any posting).

When editing or copying a kept posting, the date of the posting will be updated to the current date if it is in the past.

A posting can only be kept if it has been previously posted. There is no option at this time for creating an incomplete posting and keeping it.

Toggling the Kept status of a posting set for rollover will cancel the rollover and set the date to the ‘rolled-to’ date.

Custom Match

DAT Power 2 has another handy feature while in the posting view… the ability to see how many equipment matches you have on your load posting. When in the expanded view, you will see a button that indicates how many trucks currently match the details of your load posting.

Clicking the button will create a matching search and take you directly to the search results screen so that you can see the details of the trucks matching your load. The matching search is removed from your list of searches if you ever ‘Unpost’ or ‘Delete’ the posting from which it was created.

Note: The button will only be present on actively posted loads for which there is not already a matching search present. It is removed after you click on it to create a matching search and will never appear as an option on postings where you chose to ‘Create matching search and set alarm.’

Broker Exercise 9 – Custom Match

Managing Group Postings

Group postings can consist of two types of postings:

1. Postings entered through an FTP interface (eg. Keypoint, McLeod, etc) 2. Postings from other users in your office that are part of your sharing group

Page 26: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Solutions 25 6/17/2015

Managing group postings consists of two features, the ability to delete postings and the ability to create searches based on the criteria of those postings by setting a search alarm. Like regular postings, select the postings you would like to delete or set an alarm on and use the dropdown menu to access these functions.

Note: The ‘Owner’ column will display the initials of the user that entered the posting.

Only 100 postings at one time can be updated in this fashion. Anything over 100 postings will display an error as seen here.

Being able to see what other users in your office have posted will reduce repeat postings and allow you to better assist each other when needed. For instance, if a user posts a load that gets covered after they leave for the day, another user in the office can delete that posting themselves. If you do not see this option, please call DAT Support at 800-547-5417 and we will assist in setting it up.

Search for Trucks Searching for the right equipment to haul your freight is one of your priorities each day. DAT Power 2 was designed with this in mind and is a powerful tool to hone in on just what you are looking for. With a wide array of equipment types and search features, DAT Power 2 will be the only freight matching tool you’ll need.

Access the Search Trucks screen now by clicking the tab at the top and let’s take a look at what you will see.

Everything you need to search for trucks can be found here. You will see each of the searches you have run, the matches that have resulted from the searches and the ability to easily refine each search. You can also resize the panes here by clicking and dragging the separator bar up and down. Let’s take a look at these features and more now.

Creating a New Search

If posting your available load has not garnished the phone calls expected, create a search where you define what you are looking for. You can be very specific in your searches to hone in on just the right equipment, or be less specific and see a broader array of matches to choose from.

Page 28: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 27 6/17/2015

Start by clicking “New Truck Search” button. This will present you with a form where you can specify what type of equipment would suit your needs. Here you can decide just how specific you want to be. Let’s review the different options you have when creating a search.

1. Any/Only: Toggling between these options allows you to search for “Any” kind of a particular equipment within a class or classes (e.g., “Any kind of Van”) or “Only” specific equipment type(s) (e.g., “Only a Van Conestoga”). The Any option will return a broader array of results, whereas the Only option will give you more specific results.

2. Truck: The type of equipment you need to haul your load. You may choose more than one.

3. Origin: The city, state, states, or zones that you are looking out of.

4. Destination: The city, state, states, or zones that you are looking to go to.

Note: When entering multiple states or zones, do so without spaces in between. DAT Power 2 will recognize the states and zones automatically. For example, if you are looking for trucks in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, you would enter ORWAID.

5. Available Date: Date that your load is available. Hold ‘Shift’ and click to select range.

Searching is a great feature and very useful, but it is no substitute for posting your load. Posting is advertising and shows your availability and establishment in the industry. It makes you visible to thousands of carriers in the industry and will only increase your ability to move freight quickly, so don’t forget to post those loads!!!

Page 29: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 28 6/17/2015

6. Miles DHO/DHD: The first field is the distance from your origin city (DeadHead Origin) while the second field is for the distance from your destination (DeadHead Destination). These are only used when a city is specified for an origin and destination. They serve to define an area around the specified city that the results must fall within. If the origin or destination is a state, states, or zones, the relevant Miles field will be disabled.

Note: Exact matches are now within driving distance of your specified DHO/DHD and not a radius, which means that a search of 50 miles will not return results that are higher 50 miles anymore.

7. Full, Partial, or Both: This indicates whether your load requires full space or just partial

space available on the truck. If your load can fit on either an empty truck or a partially empty truck then you would select ‘Both’.

8. Length: The maximum length of trailer your load needs, in feet (ft.).

9. Weight: The weight of your load, in pounds. Entering a ‘K’ after a number will multiply

that number by 1000 (4k = 4000lbs).

10. Search Back: Sets how far back into the load board history your search will look. A setting of 2 hours will show trucks in your lane that were posted or refreshed within the past 2 hours.

Start your search off by being specific to your needs. DAT Power 2 provides easy ways to refine your search, if needed, and even automates expanding your search to find more results that may serve you. Being specific on your search will ensure that you find the best equipment in the fastest time.

Reverse Search

If you have the need to reverse the search origin and destination at any point after doing a

search, click to expand the search and you can by clicking the .

This can be useful when looking for a backhaul from your original trip.

Setting an Audible Alarm Notification

One of the key features of a search is the ability to turn on an audible alarm notification, where DAT Power 2 audibly alerts you when a match is received. This can be useful if you cannot find the truck you need and you have other tasks to complete away from your desk. Setting an alarm notification is just one click away. After performing a search, click the grey bell. When clicked, the bell will turn orange, indicating that the alarm is now active.

indicates that the alarm sound is on

indicates the last search that triggered an alarm (most recent) When a new truck is posted that matches your criteria, you will hear an audible alert and visually see the number of matches that have been returned since the last time you viewed the search.

To disable the audible sound, click on the orange bell.

DAT Solutions 30 6/17/2015

Note: All searches ran in DAT Power 2 are ‘active’ by default and will continue to find matches after the search is run. Toggling the bell on and off only enables/disables the alarm sound. The search will continue to find new matches even when the audible sound is disabled.

If you are not currently on search screen when a match comes in, we have you covered there too. In addition to hearing the audible alarm that you selected, you will see a visual indicator on the search tab itself like the one listed here. Whenever a new match arrives, whether it has an audible notification or not, this visual indicator will appear.

Understanding Your Search Results

Now it’s decision time. Do you see the specific result you were looking for? Does the carrier meet your safety criteria? Do you need to refine your search to narrow or broaden your results? Once again DAT Power 2 will help make this as easy as possible. Let’s first look at what the results look like and take note of a few things.

DAT Power 2 will automatically show you the exact matches to your search at the top of your list. In this example there are 307 exact matches. As you scroll down, you will start seeing ‘Similar Matches’. These are matches that may also interest you if you do not see a good opportunity above. DAT Power will highlight the areas that do not exactly match your search criteria. DAT Power 2 provides this format to you in order to speed up the process of finding the best truck to serve your needs. If you do not wish to see the Similar Matches, you can click the double-arrow to the left to collapse those results.

Page 32: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 31 6/17/2015

Note: To permanently hide Similar Matches, click your username in the upper-right hand corner and select “Settings”. Click the box for “Hide Similar Search Results” and all future searches will have the Similar Matches collapsed.

Clicking on the company name can help you make a quick determination on whether or not the truck will meet your requirements. When the company name is clicked on, you will be able to see if any peer reviews have been written on the company as well as if there have been any CSA Basic alerts.

DAT Power 2 also provides you with an easy way of locating new matches that have appeared on your list since the last time you viewed the search results. When a fresh match arrives to your search, it will be indicated by a green bar in front of the match. When sorting by ‘Age’, most of these will appear at the top.

Sometimes postings are removed after your search results have been compiled. In the event that the poster removes the truck from the DAT database, that match will display with a line through it as the highlighted area below shows.

Broker Exercise 12 – Viewing Exact/Similar Matches Now let’s take a look at the posting detail to make sure we have all of the relevant information we need to make a decision.

By clicking on the Romeoville, IL to Memphis, TN match; it’s been expanded to reveal all of the details that the carrier posted, including their contact information. Take note of the areas that are highlighted in blue text as they are links to the DAT Directory™. Launching the DAT Directory™ can provide you with valuable DOT and carrier safety information. In addition, the DAT Directory™ will allow you to read reviews on other companies while providing reviews on those you’ve already done business with. Included in the expanded view is the rate information for the lane, which is highlighted above. Hovering over this area will provide more information about the rate, including the high and low rates provided by DAT RateView™.

Note: Rate information is only available for point-to-point postings. Rate information will not display for trucks with destinations of ‘Anywhere’ or a list of states/zones (e.g. Z1Z3TXOR).

To expand and see even more information about the rate being provided, click the symbol.

Now you can see just how many reports contributed to generating this rate. In addition, it’s revealed that this rate is a Houston Market to Chicago Market rate based on contributions in the last 30 days. If you wish to see the Shipper Contract Rate instead of the Broker Rate, click the “Shipper Contract Rate” button. To access the full DAT RateView™ site, click the “More at DAT RateView” button. If you do not subscribe to RateView™, you can click ‘Get RateView™’ here to get more information about subscribing. For customers that do not subscribe, the broker rate displayed is a 90-day, expanded market rate. All of this can be very helpful when determining what rate should be charged to the carrier.

Broker Exercise 13 – Expanding Results

Using the ‘Preferred/Blocked’ Filters

You can indicate if an office is ‘Preferred’ (like doing business with) or ‘Blocked’ (does not want to do business with).

Sorting your results here can be a big help in finding the perfect result. Sorting by DH-O (DeadHead Origin) is a great way of getting the truck closest to your origin to the top of your list.

Page 35: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 34 6/17/2015

When an office is marked as either blocked or preferred, you will be able to filter your search results to see only those that are preferred and offices that are blocked will no longer show up as a match to your search.

Marking an office with a blocked or preferred label can be done clicking on the company name and selecting the action you want to perform.

If this is an office that you like doing business with, then click the “Add to Preferred” button and you can then filter your search results to show only those offices that you prefer. Conversely, if this is an office that you do not wish to do business with, click the “Block this Office” button and they will no longer show up as matches to your search.

Note: If you change your mind, clicking the buttons again will reverse the action of preferring or blocking the office.

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 35 6/17/2015

Once you have offices that are selected as preferred, you can click the ‘Preferred’ filter at the top of the list to see only those offices on your results.

Whereas DAT Power 2 will block the matches you have receive on offices that you’ve marked as blocked, you can still see them if you wish by clicking the ‘Blocked’ filter.

At any point you find that you need to manage your list of ‘Preferred’ or ‘Blocked’ offices, you can click on the link to do so and be taken to the DAT Directory where you can see and edit the complete list of these offices

Note: Alarms do not sound when a match from a blocked office is received.

Checking for New Matches

DAT Power 2 will continually scan for new matches to your search and add them to your current matches. This ‘active’ search ensures that you are always receiving the latest truck postings that match your load availability. When a search is selected, matches will automatically appear at the top of your list as they are posted When a search is not selected, we will show you how many new matches have arrived since stepping off of that search.

Page 37: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

In the illustration below, the first search is selected and the second search on the list is not. You can discern from this that there are 3 new matches since I last clicked on that search.

Note: The number of new matches changes to ‘MAX’ when DAT Power 2 finds a surplus of matches to your search. To receive additional matches, you will need to refine your search as described in the next section.

Refining Your Search

A great new feature DAT Power 2 brings to the table is the ability to refine searches quickly, on-the-fly, and in a very simple manner. To the right of your search window you can ‘Refine Your Search’ with a simple click.

This area provides you with slider bars that can be dragged to increase or decrease the

age of the matches returned

DeadHead to the origin

DeadHead from the destination

Page 38: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 37 6/17/2015

In addition to the slider bars, you can easily adjust the Length, Weight, Available Date, and whether or not you are looking for Fulls, Partials, or Both as seen in the illustration above. Do you want to filter your list to just show a particular company? Or maybe you want this search to omit a specific company. Either way, DAT Power 2 lets you do that by populating the ‘Show Only’ or ‘Don’t Show’ fields within the Company Name section with the name of the company. You can use partial names and you can include or exclude as many as 10 companies by separating them with commas. In addition, you can filter out a set of MC#’s that you would rather not see by using the ‘MC# Less than’ field. For instance, if you entered 600000, all companies with an MC# less than that would be filtered out. This can be handy if you wanted to filter out newer companies that may not have been in business for very long. For those that want to see only results for carriers with a particular home state, DAT Power 2 has a filter just for this as well. Selecting a state or states here will limit the exact matches to just those states.

When a slider bar is or field here is adjusted, the results will automatically refresh to the new parameters. This can be very helpful and save valuable time over editing your search. At any time, the ‘Refine Your Search’ window can be collapsed to make more room for the searches and matches on your screen.

Broker Exercise 14 – Refining a Search

Managing Searches

Another way of editing a search is to first click on the search itself in order to expand it.

Filtering by home state allows you to see carriers that are more likely to go to the destination you have selected, and often for a better rate for you as that is the state that they are trying to get back to.

Clicking the “Edit” button will allow you to make changes to any of the parameters of your search before resubmitting and getting refined matches.

You can also do some cleanup work in this view, removing unwanted searches by clicking on “Delete”. Broker Exercise 15 – Edit/Delete a Search

Search Collaboration

Search collaboration is available for Enterprise customers. It allows users in the same group to see what each other is looking at. It also allows users in a group to add notes to matches that each member of the group can see in real time. This will help users in the same office be more efficient and cut down on wasted or duplicated calls. In order to see whether a status of a match has been selected or to see what matches other users in the groups are currently looking at, you will first have to expand your view. Click the

button located next to your matches as seen here.

The ‘Refine Your Search’ area is a much quicker way to edit your search and is favored over this method for speed.

Page 40: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 39 6/17/2015

Clicking this option will expand your view to display the search collaboration column.

Displaying this view is important in order take full advantage of the group search collaboration tools.

Work Status and Notes One of our new collaboration features is to allow others in your group to see the particular status of a match. For instance, if the load had been called on, refused, or deemed unqualified, the status can be indicated directly on the match. If another member of the group finds the same match, they would see the status.

The ‘notes’ field was also added and will allow you to type notes that can be seen by other group members, but are not visible to anyone else. These notes are contained within your office only.

Both of these tools can be access by expanding a match and clicking .

This is a great timesaver. Help your colleagues out by not having them waste time repeating the steps that you just did. For instance, by marking the status as ‘Unqualified’ you can save a colleague from making the same call twice to a company.

Page 41: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Solutions 40 6/17/2015

A dialog box will appear on the match allowing you to change the status or enter a note.

The status you select and any notes you enter here will be immediately seen by other users in the group as soon as the ‘Submit’ button is clicked. This can be extremely useful to others in the group that may be viewing the same match as you and planning to call. If your notes or the status indicates that the call has already been made for instance, another user won’t waste their time in calling on it again.

Search Collaboration Indicators When viewing a match that another user in your is currently viewing on their screen, you will see a visual indicator displaying their initials as seen here.

When the blue indicator is present, it tells you that there is a note or status change on this particular match.

In order to see the notes or status, you must click on the match to expand it.

Business Tools

LaneMakers™

LaneMakers™ can be a very useful tool when searching for businesses that are hauling loads in the lanes that you are operating. Once a search result is expanded, the LaneMakers™ link becomes available.

Clicking the link will open a new tab that will display the LaneMakers™ search form. The form will be prepopulated with the equipment type, origin and destination that were listed on your search.

At this time, you can edit any of the fields here and click or simply view the results that were populated by default by DAT.

Note: If your search is not point-to-point, you will need to pick a city for both your origin and destination before running your LaneMakers™ search.

You can now see who the top carriers are in the selected lane for the last 60 days. This does not mean that they currently have a truck available, but it does let you know who you could call to inquire about a truck if you have been unsuccessful locating one.

Hot Market Map

This tool was designed to show you the Load-to-Truck ratios for states or markets of your choosing. To access it, first click on your search to expand it and then click on ‘Hot Market Map.’

Once clicked, ‘Hot Market Maps’ will open up in a new tab or window and give you a visual depiction of how ‘hot’ one market is compared to another. In the following example, we see what the Load-to-Truck ratio is for Flatbeds by market. Clicking on the Milwaukee market lets me see the details of that area.

Knowing how many loads are in an area compared to how many trucks can help you determine if you might have challenges getting your load moved. The darker the color, the higher the saturation of loads to trucks in that area. As a broker, the lighter shaded areas will be easier to find trucks in.

Carrier Exercise 1 – Locating Feedback

Navigation

As a carrier who primarily advertises available equipment and searches for available freight, we have conveniently grouped those functions together at the top of the screen.

Note: If you are on a Carrier-only subscription, ‘Post Loads’ will not be available.

You will just need to click on Post Trucks or the Search Loads tabs to access those screens. In addition to the freight matching options here, you also have links to RateView™ by clicking the Rates link at the top, and to our DAT Directory™ by clicking on Directory. Both of these tools can be instrumental for identifying rates in the lanes you operate and researching companies with whom you plan to do business.

Posting Your Trucks

Posting the trucks that you have available is the single best way to let available brokers and shippers know who you are and how to contact you. Don’t spend all of your time calling these folks; save time and money by posting your truck and let them call you! Access the Post Trucks screen now by clicking the tab at the top and let’s take a look at what you will see.

This is your ‘equipment dashboard’ as it displays the trucks that you have entered into DAT’s database, while displaying the details and status of each truck posted. DAT Power 2 lets you post one load at a time, or multiple loads at one time. First we will cover a single load posting.

Posting a Single Truck

Let’s start posting a truck to the DAT database by clicking on the “New Truck Post” button.

Page 51: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

This form will allow you to provide the important details that a broker or shipper will need to find this equipment in the database.

The details entered on this posting will be visible to all DAT customers. The form consists of several fields, some required (*) and some optional. Let’s review.

1. Origin*: The city, state that the truck is available in.

2. Destination*: The city, state, states or zones that the truck is willing to go to.

Note: If a Destination is not provided on your truck posting, it will not appear as an exact match to a truck search and not audibly alarm a broker or shipper when it is posted. You are encouraged to enter a destination, whether it is a state, a zone or a combination of both.

When posting your truck, the more details you provide, the more efficient your contact with brokers and shippers will be. An example would be how you populate your destination. To cut down on frustration of those looking at your availability, don’t leave your destination open. That indicates that you are willing to drive anywhere when that is rarely the case. This generates unwanted phone calls and frustration from both brokers and shippers alike. Be as specific as you can, indicating the city, state, states, or zones that you ARE willing to go to.

3. Avail*: The date or date range that the truck is available to load. To select a date range, hold your “Shift” button down on your keyboard and select the range on the calendar.

4. Truck*: The type of equipment that you have to offer.

5. F/P*: This indicates whether your truck has full or partial space available.

6. Length*: The length of space available on the trailer that is being posted, in feet (ft).

7. Weight*: The weight that the equipment can handle, in pounds. Entering a ‘k’ after a number will multiply that number by 1000. (4k = 4000lbs).

Note: Weights in DAT Power 2 are in pounds, not in thousands of pounds. If you enter a value of less than 1,000, you will be asked if you meant to use thousands of pounds. You may enter a 'k' to represent multiplying by one thousand. Because weights are now in pounds, the minimum weight is now 1 pound (down from 1000) and the maximum weight is now 999,999 (raised from 999,000).

8. Contact Method*: Indicate the contact method that will be visible to DAT users.

9. Ref ID: A number or code used to uniquely identify a truck. This number cannot be the

same as any other reference number you have already used. (This is a great tool to use when Posting a large volume of equipment).

10. Comments 1 and 2: Used to specify any additional information that the customer feels is necessary regarding the truck. (70 character max in each).

Note: Fields like Commodity and Comments have ‘counters’ that show you how many characters you have remaining that you can enter.

An easy method for entering cities is to type in the ZIP code and then selecting the desired city from the dropdown menu.

11. Set audible alarm: Click this option if you would like DAT Power 2 to create a search with an alarm notification that will automatically be visible from your ‘Search Loads’ tab for viewing once you submit the posting. When this option is selected, the image will turn orange as seen here.

When finished completing the form, click the “Post” button. If any of the required fields are not filled out, or if they are not recognized by DAT, the posting will fail to submit. DAT Power 2 will show you what parts of the form are incorrect so you can quickly resolve the issue and resubmit.

Once the posting has been submitted correctly, it will appear as one of your trucks on the Post Trucks screen.

Note: Once the origin, destination and equipment type is selected on a posting, DAT Power 2 will display the Broker Spot Rate, Best TriHaul rate and the trip miles for the specified lane.

Use this feature to see what rates are being reported to us in the lanes you are operating.

Posting Multiple Trucks

To post multiple trucks at one time, click . This will launch the file upload feature. In order to upload multiple trucks at one time, you will need a spreadsheet containing a list of your trucks that you can select. You can download a template of the file upload form directly from DAT.

Page 54: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Solutions 53 6/17/2015

Note: Supported file types include CSV, XLS and XLSX.

Once you have selected your upload file, click the “Next” button. At this point you will have to map the data provided in order for DAT Power 2 to understand what each column indicates. Mapping the data is a one-time deal unless a change is ever made to the format of the file being uploaded.

Note: The mapping that is setup at this stage is shared with all members in the group.

Mapping consists of dragging and dropping the column headers from “Your File” to the corresponding columns under “Mapped Columns.”

Page 55: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

When you have all errors resolved, click the “Post Trucks” button at the bottom of the screen and all of your postings will be submitted at one time.

Carrier Exercise 2 – Posting a Truck

Posting Views

DAT Power 2 adds the ability to see your postings from different views. This allows you to manage postings more effectively by switching Posting Views in a variety of ways:

All: Displays all postings regardless of their status.

Posted: Displays only postings that are currently active.

Unposted: Displays postings that have been cancelled or removed within 24 hours of being posted.

Expired: Displays postings that have expired (older than 24 hours and younger than 48 hours).

Kept: Postings that have been saved and will be retained indefinitely in DAT Power 2. (If you use a lane frequently we recommend using the “Keep” feature to save you time when posting loads)

Keypoint, Mcleod, etc) o Displays postings that other users in your office group have posted

You can submit your postings prior to fixing errors that are reported back to you by clicking the “Post Trucks” button at the bottom of the screen. This will transmit all of the postings with no error immediately and allow you to focus just on the postings that have an error.

Page 57: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Solutions 56 6/17/2015

Each “Posting View” will only display up to 500 postings at one time based on your sort order. If at any point you cannot find a particular posting that should be present, try re-sorting your postings by a different method.

Managing Your Postings Once you’ve entered some truck postings, you will need to manage them for the duration of the time that the truck is still available. For instance, you may need to cancel a posting if you now have it covered, or you may need to update the posting to include new information. Let’s walk through these scenarios.

Cancel (Unpost) a Posting

Just as it is important to post your truck’s availability with DAT, it’s equally important to remove it from the database once it is booked. This will prevent further phone calls from interested brokers and shippers as an ‘Unposted’ posting will no longer show up as a match for them. As with many functions of DAT Power 2, you can accomplish this using multiple methods. One method is to simply click on the Posted button and watch the status change to Unposted.

Another method to cancel a posting is to select the posting by ‘checking’ it and using the action menu to complete the desired action.

Hovering over a status button will show you the action of clicking on that button.

Hovering over will display so that you will understand what clicking on the button will do.

Page 58: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 57 6/17/2015

When the box is checked, selecting the dropdown arrow will give you the following menu:

Selecting ‘Unpost’ at this point will remove the posting from DAT’s database, but will allow it to stay on your screen in case you would like to do more with it in the future.

Carrier Exercise 3 – Cancelling a Posting

Edit a Posting

Editing your posting can come in quite handy if you need to change the details of that truck in any way. For instance, if you need to change the Truck Required from Flatbed to Flatbed with Tarps, start by clicking on the posting itself to expand it. The image below shows what the posting looks like ‘expanded.’

You can adjust multiple postings at one time! When you check more than one box in front of a posting, the above pictured menu is accessible by clicking the dropdown arrow and will allow you to complete the selected action on each of the checked postings at one time.

Page 59: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 58 6/17/2015

Click the “Edit” button and you will now have the chance to change the Truck Required to Flatbed w/ Tarps.

Click the “Save” button and the changes you made will be applied.

Note: Unlike previous versions of DAT’s freight matching services, DAT Power 2 allows users to edit ANY and ALL fields of a posting.

Carrier Exercise 4 – Edit a Posting

Copy a Posting

Copying a posting is fundamentally the same as editing a posting, but creates a new posting using the original posting as a template. Follow the same steps listed above for editing, but click the “Copy” button instead.

Note: Posting the same truck more than once in the database offers no value to you. It will not generate more results on alarm matches and it is a source of frustration to brokers and shippers. Potential business partners of yours may even respond by filtering you out of their searches and alarms.

Delete a Posting

When you are finished with a posting and no longer need it, you can delete it from your view.

Page 60: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 59 6/17/2015

Select the checkbox in front of the posting(s) you wish to delete. Click the dropdown arrow above and choose ‘Delete’ from the action menu.

You can also delete a single posting by expanding its details and clicking the “Delete” button. Carrier Exercise 5 – Delete a Posting

Refresh a Posting

Do you want your truck to look brand new to the brokers and shippers searching for it? DAT Power 2 allows you to do this with ease. After the truck has been in the DAT database for 15 minutes, it can be ‘refreshed’ to appear as new. This can be helpful as those searching for your truck may only be searching for trucks that are one hour old or younger. You can perform this action the posting is 15 minutes old, but the truck will be queued up to refresh when the 15-minute threshold has been crossed.

Page 61: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 60 6/17/2015

You can also refresh your truck posting by clicking on the age of the posting. Hovering over this area of the posting will show you the action it will perform. In this first example the posting is 2 minutes old. Hovering over the age displays the following:

If you click, in 13 minutes this posting will automatically be refreshed to look brand new. When a posting is queued to refresh, the ‘Age’ section will appear orange and will show a countdown until the refresh occurs.

Carrier Exercise 6 – Refresh a Posting

Rollover a Posting

Have you ever got to the end of the day and that truck you were trying to get filled is still sitting there empty? DAT Power 2 has you covered there as well. Any active posting that you wish to ‘rollover’ to the next day is just a click a way now with no editing required. Select one or more postings by checking the box at the beginning and using the drop down arrow to select ‘Rollover’ from the list

You can also rollover your truck posting by clicking on the “Avail” section of the posting. Hovering over this area of the posting will show you the action it will perform.

Once a posting is selected to rollover, the ‘Avail’ section of that posting will appear orange and the rolled-to date is shown. Shippers and brokers that are searching for your truck will still find it available for today, and will also find it available for the rolled-to date as well.

Page 62: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 61 6/17/2015

To cancel a rollover that you have selected, click on the orange area indicating that it’s rolling over. Hovering over this area shows you the action.

Important Information Regarding Rollovers:

A posting cannot be rolled over if it has remained posted on the board for 5 consecutive business days. As a workaround, you can Unpost and Repost the truck and then roll it over.

A posting may only be rolled over when the available date has arrived and the posting is due to expire that day.

An icon to allow rollover will only be present on a posting if it is eligible for Rollover. If no icon is present, it means the available date is in the future or the posting is not expiring that day.

If you need to change the available date on a posting that is set to rollover, you should first cancel the rollover.

Carrier Exercise 7 – Rollover a Posting

Keep a Posting (Drafts/Templates)

To ‘Keep’ a posting means to save it indefinitely for future use. This can be very useful when you need to constantly repost the same truck over and over. For instance, if you drive a contracted load out to Dallas, TX each month and are always looking for a load to drive back to California, type the information in once and ‘Keep’ it so you can just reuse it at any time.

Page 63: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 62 6/17/2015

Important Information Regarding Kept vs. Not Kept

Unlike drafts or templates, there are no labels, and all post data is retained when a posting is kept, including dates and reference ID. The reference ID will not be copied if you use the Copy button (as is the case for copying any posting).

When editing or copying a kept posting, the date of the posting will be updated to the current date if it is in the past.

A posting can only be kept if it has been previously posted. There is no option for creating an incomplete posting and keeping it.

Toggling the Kept status of a posting set for rollover will cancel the rollover and set the date to the ‘rolled-to- date.

Carrier Exercise 8 – Keep/Unkeep a Posting

Custom Match

DAT Power 2 has another handy feature while in the posting view… the ability to see how many equipment matches you have on your truck posting. When in the expanded view, you will see a button that indicates how many loads currently match the details of your load posting.

Clicking the button will create a matching search and take you directly to the search results screen so that you can see the details of the loads matching your truck. The matching search is removed from your list of searches if you ever ‘Unpost’ or ‘Delete’ the posting from which it was created.

Note: The button will only be present on actively posted trucks for which there is not already a matching search present. It is removed after you click on it to create a matching search and will never appear as an option on postings where you chose to ‘Create matching search and set alarm.’

Carrier Exercise 9 – Custom Match

Managing Group Postings

Group postings can consist of two types of postings:

Page 64: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 63 6/17/2015

1. Postings entered through an FTP interface (eg. Keypoint, McLeod, etc) 2. Postings from other users in your office that are part of your sharing group

For instance, if a user posts a truck that gets covered after they leave for the day, another user in the office can delete that posting themselves. If you do not see this option, please call DAT Support at 800-547-5417 and we will assist in setting it up.

Search for Loads We understand that searching for the right freight for your truck is one of your main priorities each day. DAT Power 2 was designed with this in mind and is a powerful tool to hone in on just what you are looking for. With a wide array of equipment types and search features, DAT Power 2 will be the only freight matching tool you’ll need.

Access the Search Loads screen now by clicking the tab at the top and let’s take a look at what you will see.

Page 66: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 65 6/17/2015

Everything you need to search for loads will be located here. You will see each of the searches you have run, the matches that have resulted from the searches and the ability to easily refine each search. You can also resize the panes here by clicking and dragging the separator bar up and down. Let’s take a look at these features and more now.

Creating a New Search

If posting your available truck has not garnished the phone calls expected, create a search where you define what it is that you are looking for. You can be very specific in your searches to hone in on just the right load, or be less specific and see a broader array of matches to choose from.

Start by clicking “New Load Search” button .

Searching is a great feature and very useful, but it is no substitute for posting your equipment. Posting is advertising and shows your availability and establishment in the industry. It makes you visible to thousands of brokers and shippers in the industry and will only increase your ability to find freight quickly, so don’t forget to post those trucks!!!

Page 67: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 66 6/17/2015

This will present you with a form where you can specify the type of equipment you have to find a load that would suit your needs. It is here where you can decide just how specific you want to be. Let’s review the different options you have when creating a search.

1. Any/Only: Toggling between these options allows you to search for “Any” kind of a particular equipment type within a class or classes (e.g. “Any kind of Van”) or “Only” specific equipment type(s) (e.g. “Only a Van – Conestoga). The Any option will return a broader array of results, whereas the Only option will give you more specific results.

2. Truck: The type of equipment you have available.

3. Origin: The city and state that your truck is available in.

4. Destination: The city, state, states, or zones that you are looking to go to.

Note: When entering multiple states or zones, do so without spaces in between. DAT Power 2 will recognize the states and zones automatically. For example, if you are looking for loads in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, you would enter ORWAID.

5. Available Date: Date that your truck is available. Hold ‘Shift’ and click to select range.

6. Miles DHO/DHD: The first field is for the radius around your origin city (Deadhead Origin) while the second field is for the radius around your destination (Deadhead Destination). These are only used when a city is specified for an origin and destination. They serve to provide a radius around the specified city that the results fall within. If the origin or destination is a state, states, or zones, the relevant Miles field will be disabled.

Page 68: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 67 6/17/2015

Note: Exact matches are now within driving distance of your specified DHO/DHD and not a radius, which means that a search of 50 miles will not return results that are higher 50 miles anymore.

7. Full, Partial, or Both: This indicates whether your truck has full space or just partial space available. If your truck can fit either then you would select ‘Both’.

8. Length: The length of trailer, in feet (ft.).

9. Weight: The weight capacity of your truck, in pounds. Entering a ‘K’ after a number will multiply that number by 1000 (4k = 4000lbs).

10. Search Back: Sets how far your search will look. The default of 2 hours will show loads

in your lane that were posted or refreshed within the past 2 hours.

Once you have entered all the criteria of your search click . Carrier Exercise 10 – Creating a Search

Finding several partial loads to haul is a great alternative to finding one load for the entire trip. Keep this in mind when searching if you do not find a full load that suits you. Hauling several partials along the way home can keep you from dead-heading and wasting diesel.

Start your search off by being specific to your needs. DAT Power 2 provides easy ways to refine your search, if needed, and even automates expanding your search to find more results that may serve you. Being specific on your search will ensure that you find the best load in the fastest time.

Reverse Search

If you have the need to reverse the search origin and destination at any point after doing a

search, click to expand the search and you can by clicking the .

This can be useful when looking for a backhaul from your original trip.

Setting an Audible Alarm Notification

One of the key features of a search is the ability to turn on an audible alarm match, where DAT Power 2 will audibly alert you when a match is received. This can be useful if you cannot find a load you need and you have other tasks to complete. Setting an alarm notification is just one click away. After performing a search, click the grey bell. When clicked, the bell will turn orange, indicating that the alarm is now active.

indicates that the alarm sound is on

indicates the last search that triggered an alarm (most recent) When a new load is posted that matches your criteria, you will hear an audible alert and visually see the number of matches that have been returned since the last time you viewed the search.

To disable the audible sound, click on the orange bell.

DAT Solutions 69 6/17/2015

Note: All searches ran in DAT Power 2 are ‘active’ by default and will continue to find matches after the search is run. Toggling the bell on and off only enables/disables the alarm sound. The search will continue to find new matches even when the audible sound is disabled.

If you are not currently on search screen when a match comes in, we have you covered there too. In addition to hearing the audible alarm that you selected, you will see a visual indicator on the search tab itself like the one listed here. Whenever a new match arrives, whether it has an audible notification or not, this visual indicator will appear.

Carrier Exercise 11 – Setting an Audible Alarm Match

Understanding Your Search Results

Now it’s decision time. Do you see the specific result you were looking for? Does the broker meet your credit score requirements? Do you need to refine your search to narrow or broaden your results? Once again DAT Power 2 will help make this as easy as possible. Let’s first look at what the results look like and take note of a few things.

DAT Power 2 will automatically show you the exact matches to your search at the top of your list. In this example there are 56 exact matches. As you scroll down, you will start seeing ‘Similar Matches’. These are matches that may also interest you if you do not see a good opportunity above. DAT Power 2 will highlight the areas that do not exactly match your search criteria. DAT Power 2 provides this format to you in order to speed up the process of finding the best load to serve your needs. If you do not wish to see the Similar Matches, you can click the double-arrow to the left to collapse those results.

Page 71: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 70 6/17/2015

Note: To permanently hide Similar Matches, click your username in the upper-right hand corner and select “Settings”. Click the box for “Hide Similar Search Results” and all future searches will have the Similar Matches collapsed.

Clicking on the company name can help you make a quick determination on whether or not the load will meet your requirements. When the company name is clicked on, you will be able to see if any peer reviews have been written on the company as well as if they are a TIA member and what their credit score and days-to-pay is.

In the event that the poster removes the load from the DAT database, that match will display with a line through it as the highlighted area below shows.

Carrier Exercise 12 – Viewing Exact/Similar Matches Now let’s take a look at the posting detail to make sure we have all of the relevant information we need to make a decision.

By clicking on the Pueblo, CO to Houston, TX match; it’s been expanded to reveal all of the details that the broker posted, including their contact information. Take note of the areas that are highlighted in blue text as they are links to the DAT Directory™. Launching the DAT Directory™ can provide you with valuable credit and authority information for the broker. In addition, the DAT Directory™ will allow you to read reviews on other companies while providing reviews on those you’ve already done business with. As a carrier, you may also be interested in knowing if this broker or shipper is a member of the TIA (Transportation Intermediary Association). You can tell by the presence of the TIA logo

Carriers should also look for the presence of the DAT Assurance logo. This indicates that this load is ‘assurable’ which means that you can be compensated for this load should you not get paid for hauling it. For more information, click on the DAT Assurance logo.

Clicking to Assure the load you plan to haul is recommended, especially when doing business with someone new. Don’t worry about whether you get paid or not as DAT will be there to help recoup your loss. Certain rules and restrictions apply, but do not pass on this valuable service that is provided for you at no additional charge.

Included in the expanded view is the rate information for the lane, which is highlighted above. Hovering over this area will provide more information about the rate, including the high and low rates provided by DAT RateView™.

To expand and see even more information about the rate being provided, click the symbol.

Now you can see just how many reports contributed to generating this rate. In addition, it’s revealed that this rate is a New Orleans Market to Columbus Expanded Market rate based on contributions in the last 15 days. All of this can be very helpful when negotiating a rate with the broker or shipper.

Carrier Exercise 13 – Expanding Results

Using the ‘Preferred/Blocked’ Filters

You can indicate if an office is ‘Preferred’ (like doing business with) or ‘Blocked’ (does not want to do business with). When an office is marked as either blocked or preferred, you will be able to filter your search results to see only those that are preferred and offices that are blocked will no longer show up as a match to your search.

Marking an office with a blocked or preferred label can be done clicking on the company name and selecting the action you want to perform.

Sorting your results here can be a big help in finding the perfect result. Sorting by DH-O (DeadHead Origin) is a great way of getting the load nearest to your truck to the top of your list. The closer the load, the less diesel you are burning.

Page 75: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 74 6/17/2015

If this is an office that you like doing business with, then click the “Add to Preferred” button and you can then filter your search results to show only those offices that you prefer. Conversely, if this is an office that you do not wish to do business with, click the “Block this Office” button and they will no longer show up as matches to your search.

Note: If you change your mind, clicking the buttons again will reverse the action of preferring or blocking the office.

DAT Solutions 75 6/17/2015

At any point you find that you need to manage your list of ‘Preferred’ or ‘Blocked’ offices, you can click on the link to do so and be taken to the DAT Directory where you can see and edit the complete list of these offices

Note: Alarms do not sound when a match from a blocked office is received.

Checking for New Matches

DAT Power 2 will continually scan for new matches to your search and add them to your current matches. This ‘active’ search ensures that you are always receiving the latest load postings that match your truck availability. When a search is selected, matches will automatically appear at the top of your list as they are posted When a search is not selected, we will show you how many new matches have arrived since stepping off of that search. In the illustration below, the first search is selected and the second search on the list is not. You can discern from this that there are 144 new matches since I last clicked on that search.

Clicking the button provides you with slider bars that can be dragged to increase or decrease the

age of the matches returned

DeadHead to the origin

DeadHead from the destination In addition to the slider bars, you can easily adjust the Length, Weight, Available Date, and whether or not you are looking for Fulls, Partials, or Both as seen in the illustration above. Do you want to filter your list to just show a particular company? Or maybe you want this search to omit a specific company. Either way, DAT Power 2 lets you do that by populating the ‘Show Only’ or ‘Don’t Show’ fields within the Company Name section with the name of the company. You can use partial names, and you can include or exclude as many as 10 companies by separating names with commas. When a slider bar or field here is adjusted, the results will automatically refresh to the new parameters. This can be very helpful and save valuable time over editing your search. At any time, the ‘Refine Your Search’ window can be collapsed to make more room for the searches and matches on your screen.

Carrier Exercise 14 – Refining a Search

Managing Searches

Another way of editing a search is to first click on the search itself in order to expand it.

Clicking the “Edit” button will allow you to make changes to any of the parameters of your search before resubmitting and getting refined matches.

You can also do some cleanup work in this view, removing unwanted searches by clicking on “Delete”. Carrier Exercise 15 – Edit/Delete a Search

Search Collaboration

Search collaboration is available for Enterprise customers. It allows users in the same group to see what each other is looking at. It also allows users in a group to add notes to matches that each member of the group can see in real time. This will help users in the same office be more efficient and cut down on wasted or duplicated calls.

The ‘Refine Your Search’ area is a much quicker way to edit your search and is favored over this method for speed.

Page 79: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

In order to see whether a status of a match has been selected or to see what matches other users in the groups are currently looking at, you will first have to expand your view. Click the

button located next to your matches as seen here.

Clicking this option will expand your view to display the search collaboration column.

Displaying this view is important in order take full advantage of the group search collaboration tools.

Work Status and Notes

One of our new collaboration features is to allow others in your group to see the particular status of a match.

Page 80: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

DAT Power Training Manual

DAT Solutions 79 6/17/2015

Both of these tools can be access by expanding a match and clicking .

Search Collaboration Indicators

When viewing a match that another user in your is currently viewing on their screen, you will see a visual indicator displaying their initials as seen here.

This is a great timesaver. Help your colleagues out by not having them waste time repeating the steps that you just did. For instance, by marking the status as ‘Unqualified’ you can save a colleague from making the same call twice to a company.

When the blue indicator is present, it tells you that there is a note or status change on this particular match.

In order to see the notes or status, you must click on the match to expand it.

Print Match Detail

If at any time you would like to print the details of an individual match, you can do so by expanding the match to reveal the ‘print’ icon. Selecting the icon will pull up a ‘print-friendly’ view of the match that you can then print out.

Business Tools

LaneMakers™

LaneMakers™ can be a very useful tool when searching for businesses that are shipping loads in the lanes that you are hauling. Once a search result is expanded, the LaneMakers™ link becomes available.

Clicking the link will open a new tab that will display the LaneMakers™ search form. The form will be prepopulated with the equipment type, origin and destination that were listed on your search.

Page 83: DAT Power 2/media/files/dat/help/power/dat-power... · DAT Power 2 is a broker’s best friend, providing them with the ability to: Advertise freight availability Search for equipment

At this time, you can edit any of the fields here and click or simply view the results that were populated by default by DAT.

Note: If your search is not point-to-point, you will need to pick a city for both your origin and destination before running your LaneMakers™ search.

You can now see who are the top brokers and shippers in the selected lane for the last 60 days. This does not mean that they currently have a load available, but it does let you know who you could call to inquire about a load if you have been unsuccessful locating one.

Knowing how many loads are in an area compared to how many trucks can help you determine if you might have challenges getting freight to haul The darker the color, the higher the saturation of loads to trucks in that area. As a carrier, the darker shaded areas will be easier to find loads in.

When contacting DAT Solutions, have your User ID handy; as it is a quick way for us to locate your account in our systems. Your account number and/or MC number can also be used.

An easy method for entering cities is to type in the ZIP code and then selecting the desired city from the dropdown menu.

When posting your load, the more details you provide (e.g. commodity, rate, etc), the more efficient your contact with carriers will be. You will spend less time on the phone answering questions that could be answered here.

Many carriers prefer to see the rate displayed in the details of the posting. Posting your rate can help eliminate unwanted phone calls from carriers and can cut down on the time you spend on the phone with the ones that are interested.

You can adjust multiple postings at one time! When you check more than one box in front of a posting, the above pictured menu is accessible by clicking the dropdown arrow and will allow you to complete the selected action on each of the checked postings at one time.

Searching is a great feature and very useful, but it is no substitute for posting your load. Posting is advertising and shows your availability and establishment in the industry. It makes you visible to thousands of carriers in the industry and will only increase your ability to move freight quickly, so don’t forget to post those loads!!!

Start your search off by being specific to your needs. DAT Power 2 provides easy ways to refine your search, if needed, and even automates expanding your search to find more results that may serve you. Being specific on your search will ensure that you find the best equipment in the fastest time.

Sorting your results here can be a big help in finding the perfect result. Sorting by DO (DeadHead Origin) is a great way of getting the truck closest to your origin to the top of your list.

Filtering by home state allows you to see carriers that are more likely to go to the destination you have selected, and often for a better rate for you as that is the state that they are trying to get back to.

If you do not see this option, please call DAT Support at 800-547-5417 and we will assist in setting it up.

Sorting your results here can be a big help in finding the perfect result. Sorting by DO (DeadHead Origin) is a great way of getting the load nearest to your truck to the top of your list. The closer the load, the less diesel you are burning.

The ‘Refine Your Search’ area is a much quicker way to edit your search and is favored over this method for speed.

This is a great timesaver. Help your colleagues out by not having them waste time repeating the steps that you just did. For instance, by marking the status as ‘Unqualified’ you can save a colleague from making the same call twice to a company.

Prior to doing business with anyone new, ALWAYS check the DAT Directory™. The Company Review section can offer you insight as to how business transactions have gone between them and other companies. Viewing the information in the directory and reading the Company Reviews can help you to avoid making a bad business decision and save you thousands of dollars.
