    ADMISSIONS UNDER DASA SCHEME 2010-2011

The Indian education system has through the ages been identified with quality education, coupled with low cost of

education delivery and living, making it an attractive proposition for international students to come and study here.

Students studying in India or contemplating to study in India can be assured of an experience rich with deep rooted

traditions, cultural heritage, visiting interesting locales, understanding one of the oldest cultures of the world, being part

of the transition to a modern open economy, making new friends from around the world and most importantly receiving

    internationally recognized qualifications.

    Strengths of Indian Education System:

Indian educational institutions offer world class education through a wide range of general and specialized courses,

which are relevant to the needs of developing countries. Indian qualifications are internationally recognized and Indian

trained manpower is sought after by the developed and developing countries.

Indian researchers and academicians are leaders in their respective fields. Indian software professionals are being given

red carpet welcome in many countries as they have created a niche for themselves. The standards of Indian education are

recognized worldwide as many of the premier organizations and renowned educational centers across the world boast of

    Indians on their staff.

In order to improve the procedure of admissions of Foreign Nationals and Indian students studying aboard to

Undergraduate Engineering Programmes in Centrally Funded Institutions (CFIs) in India, Govt. of India, Ministry of

HRD, through an official order (F21-2/2001 TS1 dated 14/05/2001) laid down guidelines and procedure and

introduced DASA (Direct Admission of Students Aboard) Scheme from the academic session 2001-2002. The Govt.

order had specified the admission criteria based on scores obtained in AIEEE/SAT examination of all students who have

studied in different Schemes / Boards in different countries.

Subsequently the requirements of SAT-II scores for DASA admission was changed and till last year the merit was

arrived based on the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the qualifying examination. In the recent

years majority of students admitted under DASA Scheme are of Indian Origin and studying in CBSC schools abroad.

Since many foreign / Indian Nationals are studying in different boards and schemes in different countries it is proposed

to have SAT II scores as the basis for arriving merit and this will certainly bring more foreign Nationals to India which

has projected as a knowledge / Educational hub of the world.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has entrusted the coordination of the admission

process for NRI students under DASA Scheme to NITK Surathkal from the Academic year 2010-11. Direct admission of

eligible Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/Non-Resident Indians(NRIs) to under graduate engineering
