The contest is set for a 1 p.m. start at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium and is a return to Ivy League play for the Big Green who have not faced off with a conference opponent since a win at Yale on March 2. LAST TIME OUT After losses to No. 2 Florida and at No. 6 Duke, Dartmouth bounced back with a 13-12 victory at Davidson on Tuesday evening. The Wildcats turned up the pressure in the second half after the visitors led 9-3 at halftime, pulling to within one in the final seconds. Nine players scored goals for the Green, including four players with two goals apiece in the win. WHERE WE RANK With the polls coming out each Monday afternoon, the latest releases of both national rankings don’t take into account Dartmouth’s win at Davidson. However, that changed little as the Big Green are No. 13 for the third straight week in the IWLCA Coaches Poll, while dropping two spots to No. 15 in the Inside Lacrosse deBeer Media Poll. SCOUTING COLUMBIA After opening the season with a 15-4 home win over Mount St. Mary’s, Columbia has fallen on hard times, losing its last six coming into the contest with the Green and White. The Lions scored a season-high nine goals in the second half to erase a five-goal deficit at New Hampshire in their last outing, but a marker from UNH’s Kayleigh Hinkle as time expired gave the Wildcats a 12-11 victory. Kacie Johnson leads the team in all offensive categories, picking up 24 goals, four assists and 28 points. AGAINST THE LIONS Dartmouth has never lost a game to Columbia in 15 previous all-time meetings. In the last outing, the Big Green pushed their mark to 15-0 against the Lions with a 15-4 victory on March 24 in Hanover. In those meetings, Dartmouth has never scored fewer than 11 goals, while allowing Columbia to score nine only once and never reach double-figures (2009/12-9). UNRANKED OPPONENTS The Big Green are 5-0 this season against teams not ranked by either the coaches or the media. A DAY AT DAVIDSON The nine first-half goals at Davidson were the most this season by the Green, besting eight first-half markers on the road against Boston University on March 6. On the other side, though, the nine goals allowed in the second half to the Wildcats tied the team’s season high for a period as Florida netted nine in the first 30 minutes of play on March 9. A DAY OF FIRSTS Sophomore Samantha Schiff not only scored her first goal of the season Tuesday at Davidson, but also picked up her first career assist, posted her first multi-point game as well as recording her first ground ball, draw control and caused turnover. Junior Amy Drummond scored the first goal of her collegiate career as part of the team’s balanced scoring attack. The goal was Drummond’s first career point as well. ▶UPCOMING IVY LEAGUE ▶ UPS AND DOWNSWith the loss at Duke, Dartmouth fell in consecutive games for the first time in two years. The last time the Big Green were defeated in back-to-back contests came at the end of the 2011 campaign, dropping a one-goal game with Harvard in the Ivy League Tournament, followed by a loss against an unbeaten Albany team in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

▶ CAREER DAYSophomore Frances Bird set a new career high with three points against the Wildcats, scoring once and assisting on two others. The two assists were also a new career high. Freshman Jaclyn Leto’s two goals in the game were a new high for the first-year player who had scored four goals in four separate games entering the evening tilt at Davidson.

▶ THE CONSTANTSenior Hana Bowers continues to score at a regular pace. Bowers has netted at least two markers per game in all seven of Dartmouth’s games in 2013. She continued that trend with a pair at both Duke and Davidson as part of the North Carolina road swing.

▶ CLASS WARFAREA member of each of the four classes netted a pair of goals in the winning effort as freshman Jaclyn Leto, sophomore Sarah Byrne, junior Lindsey Allard and senior Hana Bowers all had two markers.

▶ AGAIN?Senior co-captain Kelsey Johnson entered the season with just one career goal to her credit in three years in Hanover. In 2013, she made the switch from a defender to a midfielder and the move has paid off with an elevated offensive presence. In each of the team’s last three outings, the senior captain has found the back of the net once to bring her season point total to four after notching an assist in the season opener at Oregon.

▶ AROUND THE IVY LEAGUEFour teams still remain unbeaten in Ivy League play with Cornell and Penn leading the way at 2-0. Dartmouth and Princeton are both 1-0 with Ivy games this week against Columbia. Brown sits alone in fifth at 1-1, while Harvard, Yale and the Lions are all 0-2 in conference games this season.

▶ WHAT’S AHEAD?The Green are finally back home following the contest with the Lions, playing host to regional rival Vermont on Wednesday, March 27. The game will mark the first at home for the team since hosting Florida on March 9, a span of 18 days between.

▶ THREE AND FOURJunior Lindsey Allard matched her career high with three goals, while setting a new personal standard of four points against the Terriers. Allard scored all three of her goals in the first half to help Dartmouth jump out to an 8-5 advantage at the intermission.

▶HEAD COACH AMY PATTON

The 2013 season marks the 21st for head coach Amy Patton at Dartmouth, having led the Big Green to unprecedented success both within the Ivy League and on the national scale. With 209 career wins, 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine Ivy League championships and four NCAA Final Fours to her credit, Patton is one of the nation’s elite coaches. Beyond Hanover, Patton is an active part of U.S. Lacrosse, having recently served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Developmental team.

Dartmouth has been a model of consistency under Patton, ranked in the IWLCA top-20 during every

single season that she has coached and has ranked in the top-10 nationally in 18 of those, including in both 2010, 2011 and 2012. As a program, Dartmouth is one of just five teams to be ranked during every single season since the IWLCA began weekly polls in 1988.

In 20 years as Dartmouth’s head coach, Patton owns a 221-103 overall record, 105-30 in Ivy League play, winning nearly 78 percent of Dartmouth’s conference games. Since her arrival in Hanover in 1993, the Big Green has reached double figures in wins 16 times and advanced past the NCAA first round seven times. Patton’s teams are no strangers to perfection, five times winning the Ivy League unbeaten, most recently in 2005. From 1997-2001, Dartmouth won 22 consecutive Ancient Eight contests, en route to three-straight 7-0 championship seasons.

Dartmouth’s defense has ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense seven times since 2002, including leading the nation in that category in 2006.

In 2012, Patton and the Big Green finally won the Ivy League Tournament Championship, taking down top-seeded Penn, 6-4, in the title game. The Green

held the Quakers without a goal for 44 minutes to complete the comeback win two days after knocking off Cornell in a thrilling 9-8 game. In winning the crown, Dartmouth would advance to its 13th NCAA Tournament and the 12th since Patton took control of the program.

Patton’s 19th season at the helm (2011) was a special one in which Dartmouth won its 11th Ivy League Championship and made its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance. Ranked as high as 10th nationally during the season, it marked a true return to glory for the Big Green, which had not won an Ivy title since 2005 and had not been to the postseason since 2006. Dartmouth also knocked off previously unbeaten No. 1 Maryland on May 1, snapping the Terps’ 28-game winning-streak and becoming the first team other than North Carolina to beat Maryland since 2008.

Patton’s efforts have not gone unrewarded on a personal level. She was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year in 1998, was one of three finalists for that honor in 1993 — her first season at the helm — and has been the Northeast Region’s Coach of the Year three times (1994, 1995, 1998).

One of the most recognized names in college women’s lacrosse, Patton is a prominent member of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She was vice president of the IWLCA for two years. Most recently, Patton headed the Brine All-America selection committee and has served on the Tewaaraton Trophy selection committee. Patton was a U.S. Squad selector in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008. She was also a member of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee and assistant coach for the U.S. National Developmental team in 1998-2000. Patton served as head coach of the developmental squad from 2006-09.

Prior to her appointment as head coach at Dartmouth, Patton served as an assistant to former coach and athletics director Josie Harper from 1991-92. Patton served as an assistant for the University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team during the 1990 season.

Patton is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. As an athlete, Patton was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and field hockey, earning All-America and All-ACC accolades. She was a member of Maryland’s 1986 NCAA national championship lacrosse team and earned the Terps’ scholar-athlete award.
