Match-ups with Duke and Davidson will highlight a spring break for the Big Green prior to their return to Ivy League play next weekend at Columbia. LAST TIME OUT In the last outing, Dartmouth fell at home to No. 2 Florida, 14-9. The loss snapped the nearly three-year run without a defeat at home during the regular season, stretching back to the 2010 campaign and 16 straight contests. WHERE WE RANK Despite the loss, it came against one of the nation’s toughest opponents and did little to sway the pollsters’ outlook of the Big Green’s 2013 season. This week, both national polls continue to have Dartmouth ranked 13th, once again the top team in the Ivy League in terms of each poll’s placement of conference opponents. AGAINST DUKE Last season, the Green snapped a seven-game skid to the Blue Devils with a 9-8 victory in double overtime thanks to a goal from the eventual Ivy League Player of the Year Sarah Plumb. Duke owns the all-time series advantage with an 11-6 mark in the 17 previous meetings. The one loss came at the hands of the nation’s current No. 1 team, Maryland, in a lopsided 15-6 road defeat for the Blue Devils. Freshman Kelci Smesko scored three times against the Dolphins to help earn her team win, but the offense has come mostly from sophomore Kerrin Mauer this season. Mauer leads the team in goals (20), assists (18) and total scoring (38). Kaitlin Gaiss and Kelsey Duryea have split time in the circle this spring as both have over 200 minutes of action and similar statlines. SCOUTING DAVIDSON Prior to Tuesday night’s meeting with the Big Green, the Wildcats will be on the road for a Saturday afternoon game at Villanova. Coming into this weekend, Davidson boasts a 2-3 overall mark in five outings. The match- up with Dartmouth will be the final tune-up before opening Big South play with Longwood next weekend. Most recently, the Wildcats took down Robert Morris of the Northeast Conference, 13-6, on March 12 after losing two games to Vermont and Oregon in Eugene the week before. Ann Fucigna leads the Wildcats with 14 goals, but does not have an assist to her credit this season. Emily Cooke, on the other hand, has 16 helpers to go along with nine markers for a team- leading 25 points. ▶UPCOMING IVY LEAGUE ▶ BALANCED ATTACKJunior Liz Calby scored twice and assisted on two others, as did classmate Lindsey Allard in the game against the Gators last Saturday afternoon. It marked the second straight game that each of the two players had at least four points. Allard actually posted three goals and two assists in the previous outing against Boston University.

▶ GAME IN, GAME OUTIn addition to Calby, senior Hana Bowers has been the most consistent scorer. Like Calby, Bowers has at least two goals in each of Dartmouth’s five games this season after scoring a pair against Florida. Calby leads the team in points with 20, while Bowers has the narrow edge in goals, 13-12.

▶ FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIMESenior co-captain Kelsey Johnson scored her first goal since her sophomore season when she found the back of the netting 8:56 into the second half against the Gators. Johnson’s only other collegiate goal tally came back on April 2, 2011 as her role has been that of one of the Ivy League’s premier shutdown defenders.

▶ NICE STARTMaking her collegiate debut, freshman Gabby Starkey scored the first goal of her Dartmouth career late in the game against Florida. Starkey finished off a pass from Lindsey Allard with 55 seconds left for Dartmouth’s eighth tally of the afternoon and her first as a member of the Big Green.

▶ AS CLOSE AS WE GETThe Sunday/Tuesday games will mark the second of three times this season that Dartmouth will play two games with just one day of rest in between. After snow pushed back the home opener one day, the Big Green played UNH on Thursday, Feb. 28, before venturing down I-91 to play Yale two afternoons later in the conference opener. After this week, the only remaining instance of two games in three days will come at Penn and Maryland on April 12 and 14.

▶ WHAT’S AHEAD?Dartmouth will return north after playing at Davidson Tuesday, but will travel to Columbia for a Saturday matinee in the city, taking on the Lions at 1 p.m. ▶ ST. PATRICK’S DAYSunday’s meeting is the second straight season that Dartmouth and Duke will play a game on St. Patrick’s Day after the two also met on March 17 last season in Hanover.

▶ THREE AND FOURJunior Lindsey Allard matched her career high with three goals, while setting a new personal standard of four points against the Terriers. Allard scored all three of her goals in the first half to help Dartmouth jump out to an 8-5 advantage at the intermission.

▶ BIG DAY FOR 50/50 NUMBERSSenior co-captain Courtney Bennett had the best game of her career in the midfield at BU on March 6. She established new career highs in both ground balls (5) and draw controls (6) against the Terriers.

▶HEAD COACH AMY PATTON

The 2013 season marks the 21st for head coach Amy Patton at Dartmouth, having led the Big Green to unprecedented success both within the Ivy League and on the national scale. With 209 career wins, 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine Ivy League championships and four NCAA Final Fours to her credit, Patton is one of the nation’s elite coaches. Beyond Hanover, Patton is an active part of U.S. Lacrosse, having recently served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Developmental team.

Dartmouth has been a model of consistency under Patton, ranked in the IWLCA top-20 during every

single season that she has coached and has ranked in the top-10 nationally in 18 of those, including in both 2010, 2011 and 2012. As a program, Dartmouth is one of just five teams to be ranked during every single season since the IWLCA began weekly polls in 1988.

In 20 years as Dartmouth’s head coach, Patton owns a 221-103 overall record, 105-30 in Ivy League play, winning nearly 78 percent of Dartmouth’s conference games. Since her arrival in Hanover in 1993, the Big Green has reached double figures in wins 16 times and advanced past the NCAA first round seven times. Patton’s teams are no strangers to perfection, five times winning the Ivy League unbeaten, most recently in 2005. From 1997-2001, Dartmouth won 22 consecutive Ancient Eight contests, en route to three-straight 7-0 championship seasons.

Dartmouth’s defense has ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense seven times since 2002, including leading the nation in that category in 2006.

In 2012, Patton and the Big Green finally won the Ivy League Tournament Championship, taking down top-seeded Penn, 6-4, in the title game. The Green

held the Quakers without a goal for 44 minutes to complete the comeback win two days after knocking off Cornell in a thrilling 9-8 game. In winning the crown, Dartmouth would advance to its 13th NCAA Tournament and the 12th since Patton took control of the program.

Patton’s 19th season at the helm (2011) was a special one in which Dartmouth won its 11th Ivy League Championship and made its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance. Ranked as high as 10th nationally during the season, it marked a true return to glory for the Big Green, which had not won an Ivy title since 2005 and had not been to the postseason since 2006. Dartmouth also knocked off previously unbeaten No. 1 Maryland on May 1, snapping the Terps’ 28-game winning-streak and becoming the first team other than North Carolina to beat Maryland since 2008.

Patton’s efforts have not gone unrewarded on a personal level. She was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year in 1998, was one of three finalists for that honor in 1993 — her first season at the helm — and has been the Northeast Region’s Coach of the Year three times (1994, 1995, 1998).

One of the most recognized names in college women’s lacrosse, Patton is a prominent member of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She was vice president of the IWLCA for two years. Most recently, Patton headed the Brine All-America selection committee and has served on the Tewaaraton Trophy selection committee. Patton was a U.S. Squad selector in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008. She was also a member of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee and assistant coach for the U.S. National Developmental team in 1998-2000. Patton served as head coach of the developmental squad from 2006-09.

Prior to her appointment as head coach at Dartmouth, Patton served as an assistant to former coach and athletics director Josie Harper from 1991-92. Patton served as an assistant for the University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team during the 1990 season.

Patton is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. As an athlete, Patton was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and field hockey, earning All-America and All-ACC accolades. She was a member of Maryland’s 1986 NCAA national championship lacrosse team and earned the Terps’ scholar-athlete award.
