▶ LATE HELPRick Pinkston’s power-play goal with 4:55 left in the third period helped Dartmouth earn a point with the tie at Union. The late marker was nothing new to the team as they have scored 10 goals in the final six minutes of the third period this season. Of the team’s 22 total tallies in the final regulation period, 15 have come in the last 10 minutes.

▶ SIT IN THE STANDINGSDespite the one-point weekend, Dartmouth remains tied for third in the ECAC Hockey standings with Union as both have 16 points. The seven league wins ranks third as well, trailing only Quinnipiac (12) and Yale (9).

▶ LONE TEAM TO DO IT TWICEAgainst Union, Dartmouth scored two times on the nation’s second-best penalty kill, becoming the only team in 2012-13 to find the back of the net twice in one game against the Dutchmen.

▶ AGAINST THE BESTUnion came into the game boasting the nation’s best power play (26.3%; 31-118), but was stymied by Dartmouth’s pesky PK unit. The home team finished 1-for-5 on the night, while the Big Green were 2-for-3 on their man-advantage situations. When facing off with the best power play this season at the time of the game, the penalty kill from Dartmouth is a combined 10-for-11 (90.9%) in two outings (Union, Bentley)

▶ IVY LEAGUE UPDATEWith just three games left against Ivy competition, the Big Green are second in the standings with a 4-2-1 mark and nine points. Yale leads the way with 12 points and a 6-1-0 record with its lone loss coming to Dartmouth back on Nov. 2. After Harvard, only home games with Cornell (Feb. 15) and Princeton (March 1) remain in the quest for a 15th Ivy League crown.

▶HOW THEY MATCH UP

▶ CAREER DAYJunior Cab Morris turned aside a career-high 37 shots at Union in earning a 2-2 tie. The Dartmouth netminder’s previous best of 31 had been reached twice this season. Although he benefited from the five extra minutes of play, Morris had 34 stops through the end of regulation before making an additional three saves in OT.

▶ NEILEY NETTED ANOTHERSophomore Eric Neiley found the back of the net midway through the second period with a one-time blast from the left dot five seconds into a power play. This season, Neiley has five goals with the last three all coming on the road. Of his 12 career markers, seven have come away from Thompson Arena.

▶ HAD TO HAPPENWith the shutout loss, sophomore Tyler Sikura failed to register a point for just the third time in 22 games this season. An assist the night before at Union gave Sikura 26 points this year, one more than he had all of 2011-12 when he was tied for the team lead in scoring. His 26th point came in the Big Green’s 21st contest of the year, 11 fewer than he played his entire rookie campaign.

▶ AMERICA!Senior captain and defensive stalwart Mike Keenan has been named one of 16 semifinalists for the Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the top American-born Division I player in

New England. A native of South Weymouth, Mass., Keenan has been up for the honor in each of the last two seasons.

▶ GAME -TYING GOALSAll three game-tying goals for the Big Green this season have come thanks to a one-time shot. Pinkston’s blast off the left post and back of goaltender Troy Grosenick was the most recent instance, but both Keenan and Eric Robinson have also netted GTGs with one-timers. Keenan’s blast from the point tied the game in the final minute at Cornell back in November, while Robinson’s shot forced a tie with Yale in the season opener played in Providence on Oct. 26.

▶ EXTRA TIMEDartmouth is 0-1-3 in overtime games this season. Then-fifth-ranked Quinnipiac remains the only team to take down the Green in OT this year (3-2 – Jan. 4), while Yale, Cornell and now Union have all skated to draws with the team from the Upper Valley.

▶ NHL UPDATE- Former Big Green defenseman Ben Lovejoy ’06 was traded from Pittsburgh to Anaheim Wednesday night in exchange for a 5th-Round Draft Pick in 2014. Lovejoy appeared in three games this season with the Penguins and 98 over the course of five NHL seasons in the Steel City. He is expected to join the team in Dallas for a Friday night meeting with the Stars (NHL Network, 8:30 p.m.).- Having played in eight games this season,

Calgary’s Lee Stempniak ’05 is just 27 regular season games shy of becoming Dartmouth’s all-time leader in NHL appearances. Carey Wilson ’83 set the standard with 552 games played from 1983-1993, playing a majority of his career with the Flames. Stempniak has suited up in 525 NHL games (through Feb. 8) for the Blues, Maple Leafs, Coyotes and Flames during eight professional seasons.

▶ TV TIMEOUTFollowing the tie with the Dutchmen, the Big Green are 2-1-1 in four games played on the NBC Sports Network since last January. In four televised games total this season, Dartmouth is 1-1-2.

▶ VOTE FOR HOBEYFan voting recently opened for the 2013 Hobey Baker Award, given annually to college hockey’s best player. Dartmouth has two nominees on this season’s fan ballot as both Matt Lindblad and Sikura make their first appearances.

▶ 2ND CHANCE FOR EVERYTHINGDartmouth’s top three goals scorers this season have been Robinson (10) as well as Lindblad (9) and Sikura (9). But for just the second time this season, all three scored a goal in the same game Saturday night against Clarkson. The only other time all three have found the back of the net in the same game came back on Nov. 2 when all three recorded two markers in a 7-4 win over visiting Yale.

Head Coach

BOB GAUDET ’81Now in his 16th season as head coach of the Dartmouth men’s ice hockey program, Bob Gaudet has firmly established himself in the lore of this century-old program. A 1981 Dartmouth graduate and four-year member of the varsity hockey team, Gaudet has made the Big Green one of the most consistent teams in both ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League during his time behind the bench.

In the last two seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11 and eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12.

In 24 seasons as a head coach, including the last 15 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and nine total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL.

Entering the 2012-13 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 219 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. Gaudet’s .507 winning percentage (219-212-54) is the third-best mark at Dartmouth as well.

In 2010-11, Gaudet and the Big Green made huge strides to return to national prominence. Dartmouth finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation after posting 19 wins and winning the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Atlantic City, N.J.

At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from the 2000-01 season to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 and has a Dartmouth record of 219-212-54 (Entering this year).

The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007 Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth

its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the Division I Coach of the Year Award. Gaudet has now had two Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction.

After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 1997-98 campaign.

Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ’91, fifth in ’92, third in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ’95. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ’01, third in ’05 and was tied for first in 2006-07.

In the summer of 1990, Gaudet served as the assistant coach of the East Team in the Olympic Sports Festival, held in Minneapolis. In 1994, he served again as head coach of the East Team, and also coached the East All-Star Team in the East-West Shrine College Hockey Classic. Gaudet spent the summer of 1998 behind the bench of the New England Select 16-Team at USA Hockey’s Summer Festival in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. Kelly is a senior at Hanover High School in 2012-13 where she is the starting goalie and co-captain of the girl’s ice hockey team.

▶ SO LONG JANUARYThe Big Green’s 3-4-0 record in January is the only month this season in which the team has failed to post a winning record.

▶ PLAY IT LIKE THE FIRST 40Of the 12 ECAC Hockey teams, no other program has performed better offensively in the first two periods than Dartmouth (2.15 goals per game). However, despite the recent third-period success of the Clarkson game, the Green average just 1.05 goals per game in the third period or overtime this season, the sixth-best total in conference.

▶ SHOT BLOCKEDDartmouth ranks third in ECAC Hockey in blocked shots this season with 324. Harvard is first with a league-best 358 blocks in 2012-13, while Brown is second with 326. Harvard’s 17.05 blocks per game is also the top figure in the conference.

▶ STRONG STANZAThe four goals in the third period against the Golden Knights was the best offensive frame all season for the Green. Three times previously Dartmouth had managed to score three in a period, including twice against Yale (1st and 2nd) on Nov. 2.

▶ MAKES NO SENSEThis season’s scoring output during weekend games is not reflected in the win-loss record for corresponding days.Day Goals/Game W-L-TFriday 3.38 3-3-2Saturday 2.64 6-4-1

▶ AGAINST THE TOP-10Against team’s ranked in the top-10 in the most current USCHO poll, Dartmouth is 2-3-1 this season. It is 1-1-1 against No. 8 Yale, 1-0-0 against No. 4 UNH, 0-1-0 vs. No. 5 Boston College and 0-1-0 against No. 2 Quinnipiac (teams meet once more on March 2 in Hanover).

▶ SNAPPEDSikura’s streak of 10 straight games with a point came to an end against St. Lawrence. In that time, the sophomore registered 15 points on five goals and 10 assists. All three figures were team highs in the stretch. Sikura has points in 18 of the team’s 20 games in 2012-13.

▶ NO SLOUCH HIMSELFLindblad has been one of the most consistent players all season. In 19 games played, the junior from Winnetka, Ill., has registered points in all but four contests. The only game since Nov. 17 in which Lindblad has failed to score a point came at Yale on Jan. 19 (11-of-12).

▶2012-13 RECORD WHEN... ▶ VETERAN PRESENCESeniors Alex Goodship and Jason Bourgea made their 2012-13 season debuts against Clarkson. Goodship put the exclamation point on the night with his first tally since Jan. 31, 2012 (at Harvard) when he netted the fifth and final Dartmouth goal at 19:24. Bourgea picked up a helper on the play as well.

▶ 10 GUYSTen of the 12 forwards suited up for the Big Green against the Golden Knights registered points in the five-goal outing. Only freshmen linemates Nick Bligh and Jack Barre were held off the scoresheet.

▶ DOUBLE UP TANDEMDefensive partners Mike Keenan and Ryan Bullock each posted two assists in the 5-1 win. For Keenan, the two helpers were one short of his career high and tied his season high in both assists and points. Bullock had just one assist and two total points coming into the game in his short career. Three of the four assists between the two came in the third.

▶ PLAY THEM ALL AGAINST THE SAINTSSophomore defenseman Andy Simpson has two career goals to his credit with both coming at the expense of SLU goalie Matt Weninger. In the most recent meeting, Simpson’s no-look, last-second shot from the halfboards through a screen found space and redirected off the Saints’ goalie with just 1.4 seconds remaining in the first period. Simpson’s only other goal came in Game 2 of last season’s first-round match-up between the two teams on March 3, 2012.
