Darryl Lipscomb — Trailblazers October 2013 Caller

Darryl Lipscomb began square dancing at the age of 12, started calling

at the age of 14, and made calling his full time profession in 1978. He

was raised dancing to C.O. Guest and Ray Smith who both called for

the clubs to which his parents were members. Both were very

instrumental in encouraging and helping Darryl.

Darryl conducts a winter program in Mission TX for all the Winter

Texans" who choose to spend their winters in the "Tropics" of the Rio

Grande Valley. He calls a full range of programs, beginners thru C-3B

and is also one of the staff callers for the "Worlds largest beginner

class", and the "South Texas Jamboree" in McAllen TX.

During the summer months, he travels extensively throughout the

United States and foreign countries, calling many festivals, weekends,

and week-long institutes. Among his favorites are Kirkwood Lodge, where no dancing or calling

career is complete, until you've attended a week at this historical square dance destination!

When dancing to Darryl you are assured of smooth flowing, innovative, and exciting

choreography. He enjoys calling all levels of square dancing equally well; however, he admits

working with beginners is especially exciting!

Darryl has recorded on several different square dance record labels and is currently a "Staff

Caller" for Global Music Productions. He is also a member of CALLERLAB.

Some square dance recordings by Darryl Lipscomb include:

Big Pig Jig, Braveheart, Do You Know You Are My Sunshine, Finally Friday, Hold To A Dream, How

Mountain Girls Can Love, If You’ve Got The Money, It’s Who you Love, Jambalaya, Let It Be You,

Let Your Love Flow, Lovin’ On, My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You, Ol’ Showboat, Promised

Land, Rainbow Stew, The Chair, Uptown Saturday Night, Whispering Pines and You Must Have

Been A Beautiful Baby.

Little did we know that Darryl’s musical recordings have politically inspired an internationally

famous actor/director.

Rob French — August 2013 Caller’s Quotes and Quips

Bruce in his introductory remarks stated: “Trust all

who showed up are having a good time.” Rob’s reply: “And all who didn’t show are

having an awful time.”

Why did I call it like that?

The girls were paying attention to

what the boys were doing.

It’s harder than they think.

Dive through because Robert’s tall.

Don’t make me come down there.

It’s a 50, 30, 20 I get my cut.

They’re Hollywood phantoms,

they’re real skinny.

Isn’t that convenient.

The “oh” beaus trade.

I’ll call whatever you’re dancing.

I guess I called it better that time.

Square in the back, you uniformly messed it up.

BUT, I’ve never seen it done that well.

It’s left handed – It’s really left handed –

I’m not kidding.

You’re an honorary girl.

You can’t all leave the square.

Do we have a lot of girls in the middle - at least 5.

It takes 15 beats for that call.

The girls will be the “butts”.

Time for a break.

I learned something new the other day. {Really}

But you can’t be right – you’re on the wrong axis.

Sorry! I can’t talk. I’m laughing too hard (After

Stretched Line Wheel & Deal, one square was

all facing out, another square was all facing in.)

Squeeze in and make a line of 5.

I must have called that badly.

You can’t be right every time. That’s not fair.

That’s not what I wanted, but I called it anyway.

Yea, It was not the best.

Who’s your corner? OK, explode and go home!!!

Barry Clasper—September 2013 Caller’s Quotes & Quips

Bruce in his opening remarks: “Next month’s callers is Darryl Lipscomb from the state where things are bigger — Texas

Barry’s response: Ontario, Canada, is much bigger than Texas. So for two months in a row you have callers from two big countries. But Ontario takes the prize for being the biggest.

I’m glad that didn’t happen. Did I get it right this time?

I thought that up myself.

What do we got here? We’ve got a mess. That’s what we’ve got.

Any old place is okay. Don’t worry about it.

Oh goody, workshop time.

Now it is on the list.

It’s in the contract.

It worked out better than the end of the card anyway.

Isn’t that convenient?

Close enough for government work.

This is hard. You get an extra gold star if you do this. But I don’t have any gold stars

anyway.

You overachieved. Can you fix it back there?

I’m not sure who to believe any more.

You don’t get any styling points for that one.

Square through the usual number until you meet your corner.

Note to self – Read all the calls.

So I can make sure I’m not totally nuts, can we please do that again.

Anyone believe me. We’ll just see about this.

I only wish I’d said that differently.

I’m a slow starts so I’ll have to call faster.

From this point on, I’m not taking responsibility for your mistakes.

Oh, the diagram on my computer slipped.

Is it better now?

I keep doing this to myself.
