Darlington Bulletin Term 1, Week 6
It’s Week 6 already and we are over half way through Term1. This year is certainly
shaping up to be excitingly fast paced.
Our Year 1, 2 and 2/3 classes all had a fabulous day at the Connections and Country
excursion at the Botanic Gardens yesterday. Thank you to the teachers and to the
parents who volunteered to come along and help out.
Congratulations to all of our students who represented the school at the Zone
Swimming Carnival at Botany Pool on Tuesday. You did yourselves and our school
proud. Thank you to Brad and Bardin for accompanying the team.

We are unable to process any electronic payments AFTER
2pm each day.
We can still take cash …
Darlington PS Upstanders are:
Lauren Smith and Dylan McDaid
One of our younger primary students was having a difficult time last
week. Lauren was quickly able to sort the problem out for her whilst
Dylan went to find the student’s Mum and let her know. Both of these
students showed caring and kindness at a
time of need.
Well done and thank you to
Lauren and Dylan.

Seven new school zone traffic offences
To help schools keep the school zone safer for all pedestrians and drivers there are seven new traffic infringements with new fines.
None of the seven offences attract demerit points when committed elsewhere on the road but in a school zone they each come with two points.
The changes are:
1. Stopping in intersection - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in
a school zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.
2. Stop within 20m of intersection (traffic lights) - Under the changes if a driver
commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2
demerit points.
3. Stop within 10m of intersection (no traffic lights) - Under the changes if a driver
commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2
demerit points.
4. Stop near bicycle crossing lights - Under the changes if a driver commits this
offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.
5. Obstruct access to ramp/path/passageway - Under the changes if a driver
commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $330 and 2
demerit points.
6. Not parallel park in the direction of travel - Under the changes if a driver
commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a $330 fine and 2 demerit
points.
7. Parallel park close to dividing line - Under the changes if a driver commits this
offence in a school zone they will receive a $330 fine and 2 demerit points.
All updated school zone offences can be located through Roads and Maritime: http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/roads/safety-rules/demerits-school.pdf
February 2018
PLEASE NOTE
If you have an issue with another student or
family at school please NEVER approach
the child yourself, it is important that you
come to the school to discuss with your
child’s class teacher or the principal.
Failure to adhere to this may result in
exclusion from school property under the
Inclosed Lands Act.
Gates Unfortunately a number of adults
are holding the gates open when
collecting their children from
school, this leaves opportunities for
our little ones to go out on the street
on their own. Please close the gate
as you enter and leave the school
to ensure the safety of our kids.

Ethics Classes at Darlington Public
Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to Darlington Primary Ethics. I expect that you all had a great break and enjoyed the extra time with your kids. I know not all of you where with us last year but regardless I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of what we do. You will all have had a chance to look at our web resources but it may have been a while so I encour-age you to take a few minutes to do it again. I would also like to remind you to chat to the kids about the classes and their content we generally only cover one question/topic each week and while it is fresh in their minds please ask them about it, it can be a great opportuni-ty to start a conversation with them. It is also a good opportunity to discuss with them what the classes are intend for and why you want them to be doing this rather than something else at the time. We know that they have very limited time in each week and it is important that they and all their cohort get the most value from the time they have with us. You will see below the address to find us again online and please do hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions You may also have noticed that we are only offering stage one and stage two classes this year that is because we only have two teachers so you or any one you know is interested in ethics then please get in touch through the site or myself If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au or contact philip partridge [email protected] 0410492010 All the best for 2018.
