“‘Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim’ - In the name of ‘Allah’, the most Merciful and Beneficent.

All praise belongs to ‘Allah’* (SWT)** alone, the lord of mankind, and may peace and blessings be upon the seal of the prophets, Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him(PBUH), a Mercy for all Mankind.

We thank the Almighty ‘Allah’ (SWT) who blessed our community with the gift that is Dar Ul-Isra (DUI). It is remarkable how much the Muslim community in Cardiff love their Centre. DUI continues to attract increasing numbers of visitors and users daily. The new re-development and extension of the Centre has provided us with new facilities and the necessary extra space required for more activities and functions to take place in order to meet the demand of our ever growing community.

‘Alhamdulillah’ (praise be to ‘Allah’), it is now over 20 years since the establishment of the Centre. All of our projects and services have continued to grow, benefitting thousands of people. We estimate that more than 3,000 people visit the Centre on a weekly basis.

DUI has captured the imagination of the Muslim community in Cardiff, and its success has been an inspiration to all. It is an honour for everyone to serve his/her community, therefore I urge all brothers and sisters to contribute as much as possible. DUI is open for everyone to participate in reaching its objectives. All views, opinions, and recommendations are welcome.

All that has been accomplished so far is due to the Mercy of ‘Allah’ (SWT), who caused people to love and support this beloved place. We pray that we can continue to build on its success. (Amen)”

Dr.MunirAshi[DUI Chairman]

01 FORWARD FROM THE CHAIRMAN

* Meaning of the Word ‘Allah’

‘Ilah’istheArabicwordfor‘God’. ‘Allah’isconsideredbyMuslimstobeoneofthenamesofGod.Therefore,wheneverMuslims mention ‘Allah’,theyaresimplyreferringtotheonetrueGod.Infact,evennon-MuslimArabssuchasChristianArabsusetheword‘Allah’torefertoGod. The term ‘Allah’hasnopluralorgender.Thisshowsitsuniquenesswhencomparedwiththeword‘God’, whichcanbemadeplural,gods,orfeminine,goddess.ToaMuslim,‘Allah’ istheAlmighty,CreatorandSustaineroftheuniverse,whoissimilartonothingandnothingiscomparabletoHim.Islamrejectslikening‘Allah’toanyofhiscreation.

** Why we usually write ‘SWT’ after mentioning ‘Allah’

MostMuslimsappend‘SWT’aftermentioning‘Allah’. This is an acronymfortheArabicwords:‘Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala’,whichwhenroughlytranslated, means“The most glorified, the most exalted”.ItisawayforMuslimstoglorify‘Allah’ (SWT)whenmentioningHisname.

“Thus We have made you [true Muslims - real believers of Islamic Monotheism, true followers of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his ‘Sunnah’ (legal ways)], a ‘Wasat’ (just) (and the best) nation, that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad PBUH) be a witness over you. And We made the ‘Qibla’ (prayer direction towards Jerusalem) which you used to face, only to test those who followed the Messenger (Muhammad PBUH) from those who would turn on their heels (i.e. disobey the Messenger). Indeed it was great (heavy) except for those whom ‘Allah’ guided. And ‘Allah’ would never make your faith (prayers) to be lost (i.e. your prayers offered towards Jerusalem). Truly, ‘Allah’ is full of kindness, the Most Merciful towards mankind.” [‘Qur’an’ 2:143] WebelievethattheAlmighty‘Allah’ (SWT), themostGlorifiedandMostHigh, isthesolecreatorofallmankindandthereforeknowsthehumannaturemoreintricatelythananyofmankind.‘Allah’ (SWT),hasthereforechosenforusareligionbestsuitedtothenatureofhumanity, a religion that goes neither to the extremesofhardshipnoroflaxity, butinsteadprovidesamiddlepath, inotherwords.Islamhasmiddlepositionin:

“O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of God is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And God has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). [‘Qur’an’ 49:13]”
