Meeting Schedule

• March - meeting at SUF, laid plans for overall work plan

• 1/week at UCSB

• Re-started weekly phone meetings - yesterday

• Late June DAQ meeting in UCSB - a postdoc candidate is planned to attend

DAQ `Bandwidth’

• At CDMS-II, near to saturating Fast Ethernet from in-crate processor to the event builder

• In-crate processors are somewhat behind the the competive `box’ processors

• (Bauer) - `quiet’ VME (eliminate VXI)

• (Holmgren) - VME > Bit3 > PCI

`Bandwidth’ cont’d

• PCI Box > Event Builder with Myrinet, instead of Fast Ethernet - looks appealing

– non-DAQ - >100 Mbyte/s– cost ? About $20K more

• Could even stay Mac + Labview

• In Crate Decimation - no progress, and it is another route to `Bandwidth’ solution

Crate 2

• Some more infrastructure - probably Craig Maloney > SUF to work over phone with Don Holmgren in next month

• Would like to implement In-Crate Decimation, or filtering

Functional Blocks

• ZIPS - Digitizers - a substantial set in hand

• Time History Unit– Veto - use `old’ digitizers, and make into an

`analog’ time history unit• this will be the prototype DAQ environment at

UCSB (Craig Maloney), to in part, transfer know-how about device drivers from Don Holmgren

– Detectors - sparse occupancy in Soudan• various proposals, one written up by Craig Maloney

Functional Blocks

• Veto - peak sensor (Ray Bunker) - prototype

• Veto - pulser (Ray Bunker, Tony Piro) - prototype

• Veto - HV power - investigating CAEN record (Ray Bunker)

Functional Blocks

• ZIPS - RTF/ `Trigger Conditioner ‘ (Burke, Sander)– Left debugged/fixed/layout fixed– Right now back from prototype, being tested

• ZIPS - VME/ `Trigger Logic Board’ (Burke, Sander)– Issues about handling of trigger lines

Soudan LAN

• Two T1’s - 100’s of Kilobytes– not enough for us and Minos!– What to do?

• Mass storage at Soudan– Tevatron Run-II/CLEO-III ….

• AIT-2 (Sony) 25 Gbyte/cassette

• Exabyte `Mammoth-2’ similar

Must do’s

• UCSB Postdoc

• Settle Trigger Logic Board

• Settle High Voltage for Veto

• Make a `new-style’ DAQ this summer for veto
