HUNGARY BUDAPEST
Take a journey back in time by exploring the
enchanting spa and historical towns of western
Hungary. Bask in the sun at Lake Balaton – the
country’s very own ‘Riviera’ – which inspired
Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Ride horseback
with the herdsmen on the prairies of the Great
Plain, and immerse yourself in the exciting, vibrant
attractions of Budapest.
Located at the heart of Europe, Hungary has long
been renowned for its hospitality. The country offers
a blend of its own colourful traditions and cultural
influences drawn from all over Europe.
Visit the land of Baroque palaces and cobbled
streets. Sample its outstanding cuisine; browse
wonderful works of folk art by master craftsmen;
and don’t miss the chance to taste some great wine
served by friendly and vivacious hosts. A visit to
Hungary is an experience never to be forgotten!
WELCOME TO HUNGARY
WELCOME TO BUDAPEST
One of the world’s great capitals – a magnificent
city on the Danube that combines past-century
charm with modern comfort and vitality.
Stroll the atmospheric Castle District, visit the
Roman amphitheatre, and admire other
breathtaking landmarks including Europe’s
largest Parliament building.
Take advantage of some of Budapest’s 100
thermal springs – more than any other capital city.
Lie back and luxuriate in an original 16th-century
Turkish spa or enjoy a warming dip in the
Széchenyi, Gellért or Lukács baths.
After a busy day, relax in a classic coffee shop or
a lively bar.
GETTING TO BUDAPEST
By air: Budapest
(Ferihegy) International
Airport / BUD is 16
kilometres south-east of
downtown Budapest, and
26 km from Danubius Hotel
Helia. The Airport minibus is
a popular and reasonably
priced means of transport
between the airport and
the city.
By car: Of the five
motorways and four main
roads in Hungary, eight start
from Budapest. Drivers
must buy a motorway
sticker for the motorways
M1, M3, M5, M6 and M7
(available at border crossing
points and petrol stations).
By rail: Budapest
has three main inter -
national railway stations:
Eastern (Keleti), Western
(Nyugati) and Southern
(Déli). More than 50 trains a
day provide direct links
between Budapest and 25
other European capital
cities. Trains to Vienna run
every three hours, seven
times a day.
