Around 110 million chickens are slaughtered a year in Denmark. Over 50% are exported to demanding customers in Europe and Asia. The vast majority of broiler chickens are of the breed Ross 308. The chickens are reared by Danish farmers. Some have only chickens, others have mixed farms. Danish chicken breeders operate primarily in Jutland - a few are on Funen. Danish chicken is certified and documented traceable from farmer to shop. Unique in Europe. A 2014 analysis of Danish, Swedish, English,French, Dutch and Polish chicken concludedthat Danish chicken: Has better traceability and transparency. Contains no Salmonella and fewerCampylobacter. Is bred with less medication - includingantibiotics. Medicated only in the event of disease. Has fewer cases of multidrug-resistantbacteria. Is produced more efficiently (food, water, electricity, transport) with lessenvironmental impact resulting in climate-friendly protein! Danish broiler chickens - growing
The broiler chickens are put in stables as day-old chicks and are slaughter-ready (approximately 2,150g) after days. Danish broiler chickens roam freely around the barn. There is free access to optimal feed and fresh water. The feed consists of wheat, corn, soya and canola. Lighting programmes ensure that the chickens have a smooth rhythm of light and dark periods. The chickens grow up in houses with 20,000 to 40,000 animals. The maximum limit is 40 kg live weight per m2. The farmer visits the barn a few times a day to check on the chickens' growth. The farmer checks whether the chickens are thriving (growth, mortality), whether the computer-controlled drinking and feeding system is working and whether the fine bedding is dry. Journey times for live chickens must be a maximum of 12 hours (EU). Danpo chickens have a maximum journey time of 4 hours from farm to slaughterhouse. Week 1 Week 3 Week 5 Thanks for listening... And enjoy your chicken!
