Danish design classic re-launched by grandson

In 1953 Helge Sibast designed the chair Sibast No 8. With its beautiful and

unique expression it was part of the Danish design wave in the 1950ties and

60ties predominant for furniture design around the world.

Now 60 years later the chair is re-launched by the grandson in the original

design.

Sibast No 8 is presented at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2014. Please visit AG:38 outside Hall A exit 38 and meet the grandson of the designer.

”I have always admired my granddads design, and therefore it is with great pride I see that the chair appears just as beautiful and unique today as when

it was designed in 1953” says Ditlev Sibast, who is now re-launching the chair Sibast No 8, because as he says: ”Beautiful design heritage commits

you.”

In 1953 Sibast no 8 was manufactured by Sibast Furniture, which played an important

part in Danish designs breakthrough on the international arena in the 50ties and

60ties. Based on Helge SIbast designs and the yearlong collaboration between Helge

Sibast and the apprentice of Finn Juhl: Arne Vodder, Sibast Furniture manufactured

and exported Danish furniture designs around the world. Japan, Australia, UK, Germany,

Scandinavia and even to the White House in the United States.

Founded in 1908 Sibast Furniture has through generations in the Sibast family manufactured Danish design classics with high quality craftsmanship.

Today Sibast Furniture is re-established by the grandson and his wife to re-launch the unique designs within their design heritage. ”My wife Anna and I

have re-established Sibast Furniture, because we share my granddads passion for beautiful and sustainable design manufactured with high quality

craftsmanship. We are proud to be able to continue my granddads work and re-launch his designs with the outmost respect of the high quality of the

original. At the same time we believe that our design Sibast no 8 will find its way to modern stylish homes, where both function and aesthetics are

prioritized” Ditlev Sibast elaborates. “We have chosen to launch Sibast No 8 in oak as originally in 1953 but in different styles which fit to the modern

home or office. So far Sibast No 8 comes in black, soap finished and oiled oak, which serves the design respect but also shows how beautiful the chair

looks in different finish.
