WORK EXPERIENCEInfozen, Washington, DC October 2011 – PresentSenior Deployment Network Engineer / Deployment Coordinator at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

Responsible for planning and coordinating complex IT deployment projects within the international region (OCONUS) and east region of the United States, providing engineering teams with professional direction and communicating with the government clients and internal project managers.

Helped coordinate the technical transition of the ICE contract from the previous contractor to the current contractor, Infozen. My assistance in working with Infozen executives and government management identified essential employees and allowed for a smooth successful transition, while continuing to meet the demanding project schedule.

Managed and performed the pre-deployment and onsite technical activities for several high-profile switch upgrades, including one at a major Active Directory Exchange (ADEX) hub site. All of the projects required in-depth preparation and coordination to plan and create functional parallel networks prior to the cutovers, as well effective team management during the actual cutovers to minimize downtime and limit the impact to all users accessing the networks.

Directed the deployment activities for a number of large scale co-location projects, which involved the relocation of several smaller offices into one new larger collective site, including several offices that operate 24 hours a day. Due to these stringent requirements, strong planning as well as problem solving skills was essential to successfully overcome the challenges of working around a 24 hour schedule.

Coordinated and managed a number of workstation refresh deployments around the world. These deployments involved configuring and distributing new laptops and desktops to replace existing end-of-life workstations. Duties included backing up user profiles on the old workstations and configuring the new workstations for first use on the domain, restoring user profiles, setting up VPN services, configuring encryption accounts and adding any additional software applications and mapping network devices required for the users to perform their jobs. Upon completing the deployment of all new workstations to the users, quality assurance tests were conducted, as well as user support to confirm that all devices were fully functional.

Responsible for planning and coordinating complex IT deployment projects within the east region of the United States, providing engineering teams with professional direction and communicating with the government clients and internal project managers.

SAIC, Washington, DC March 2009 – October 2011 Senior Deployment Network Engineer at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

Managed and performed the technical and pre-deployment activities for a number of network migrations from one agency’s infrastructure to another agency’s new more secure network, including one at a major Active Directory Exchange (ADEX) hub site. Activities for the ADEX site included working with the ICE Firewall Group, ICE Network Operations Center and ICE Security Operations Center to ensure that all security devices, including intrusion detection systems and firewalls, experienced little downtime. Worked with local IT staff and interfaced with both agencies’ Network Operations Centers to determine the existing infrastructure, and created LAN designs with addressing best suited for the site. Installed and configured new dual core switches in the main distribution facility for redundancy purposes in order to support the complexity of the site. Reconfigured the ADEX equipment and twenty-two additional edge switches with minimal downtime, reducing the impact to users.

Directed the planning and execution phases of a large switch upgrade of an Active Directory Exchange hub site. This involved an initial site survey to determine potential security risks, the existing network infrastructure and the necessary network equipment best suited for the site. Developed a proposed LAN design, configured the switches in preparation for the upgrade and coordinated the efforts of members from the ICE Network Operations Center, Active Directory Exchange Group and ICE Firewall Group simultaneously to allow for limited downtime, reducing the risk of security breaches and user impact.

Managed a number of large-scale installations of new sites, which involved the installation and configuration of new switches, servers along with data migration, workstations and peripherals all in accordance with ICE security directives. Upon completion of the deployments, provided user support and troubleshooting as needed. Performed quality assurance tests on all equipment to ensure connectivity and compliance with ICE security policies.

Conducted approximately ten site surveys per year throughout the country in an effort to understand the sites’ security requirements and vulnerabilities, bandwidth requirements, current network designs and infrastructure, physical space, user counts and the software necessary for the users’ work to be conducted. After the initial site visits, data was analyzed and formal written reports were completed. The reports included recommendations on how to upgrade the sites and bring them inline with IT standards and security policies. Reports also recommended circuit and bandwidth

requirements, as well as equipment necessary to meet the sites’ data and user requirements. Provided proposed LAN designs, which included sufficient IP addressing for the user population, and plans for implementation.

Installed and configured alien processing systems at approximately three sites per year at local law enforcement organizations throughout the country in accordance with the ICE 287g initiative.

Trained new employees and assisted in bringing them up to speed with regards to their technical skills. Informed them of the internal practices and procedures required to successfully perform the job of a deployment network engineer.

Developed an instructional manual for the Deployment Engineering Division on how to install new servers, utilizing Microsoft Server 2008 software, in accordance with ICE security policies. The manual included directions on how to create RAIDS, image the servers, format the hard drives, configure the network interface cards, create the standardized ICE folder structure and transfer data from older servers if necessary.

Created a number of procedural manuals to be used by the ICE Deployment Engineering Division when performing network migrations. The manuals included instructions on how to prepare for the deployment, reconfigure switches, servers, workstations and printers during the deployment, and complete the necessary documentation upon the deployment closeout.

Wrote several user manuals designed to assist new network engineers with the configuration of new alien processing systems, the installation of network printers that meet ICE standards, and the procedures that need to be followed when preparing, performing and completing projects.

Assisted in the planning phase of the deployment of new Enterasys switches into a predominantly Cisco-based environment. This involved participating in Enterasys’ switch training, creating switch configuration templates to be used by other network engineers and the training of fellow engineers on how to configure the new switches.
