“You have to look at the audience. How convoluteddo you want to make it for a first time learner?”
“The advantage of this example of natural selection isthat it is extremely visual.”
“We want to get across the idea of selectiveadaptation. Later on, they (high school students—KB) can look at the work critically.”
Bob Ritter, a Canadian text-book writer who knew the mothpictures were frauds but used them anyway. Quoted in the April 5,1999, Alberta Report Newsmagazine (See Icons of Evolution, byJonathan Wells, p. 156-157.

Ardipithecus ramidus kadabba
Researchers, “haven’t collected enough bones to reconstructwith precision what kadabba looked like” (p. 57).
Ardipithecus ramidus kadabba“In all, the team eventually found 11 specimens—from at leastfive different individuals—in a cluster of sites” (p.56)

Piltdown Man
This fossil find wasproposed to be the
“missing link” betweenhumans and apes.
Forty years later scientistsdiscovered that the fossilhad been “reconstructed”
using the skull from ahuman and the jawbone of
an orangutan.
Nebraska ManFrom a single fossilized tooth, anentire species was manufactured.
The only problem was—the tooth was later
identified as a tooth froman extinct pig!
Orce ManA single skull bone wasfound near the village ofOrce in Spain. Based onthis one bone, some over
eager scientists took artisticfreedom and reconstructed
an entire man.Later, to the embarrassment ofmany, the bone was correctly
identified as being the skull capbelonging to a six-month olddonkey! (see D. Gish, The
Amazing Story of Creation, p. 82)
Neanderthal Man
At the International Congress ofZoology (1958), Dr. A.J.E. Cave saidthat his examination of the famous
Neanderthal skeleton found in Franceover 50 years ago proved that it wassimply an old man who suffered
from arthritis!
Probably the most wellknown “missing link”
between humans and apes
Flipper Man
A single “collar bone” wasfound in the Libyan Desert in1979. This fossil was dated(based on the estimates ofsome fossil marine planktonnearby) at 5 million yearsold! The “shape” of this“collar bone” indicated thiscreature walked upright.
However, this “collar bone” was laterdetermined to be a rib bone. And not
even a human rib bone at that.
Colin Patterson(Senior Paleontologist, British Museum)
“I think always before in my life when I’ve gotup to speak on a subject I’ve been confidentof one thing that I know more about it thananybody in the room, because I’ve worked onit. Well, this time it isn’t true. I’m speaking ontwo subjects, evolutionism and creationism, and I believe it’s true to say that I knownothing whatever about either of them.”
Colin Patterson(Senior Paleontologist, British Museum)
“One of the reasons I started taking thisanti-evolutionary view, or lets call it anon-evolutionary view, was that last year I hada sudden realization. For over twenty years Ihad thought I was working on evolution insome way. One morning I woke up andsomething had happened in the night, and itstruck me that I had been working on this stufffor more than twenty years, and there was noone thing I knew about it.”
Colin Patterson, cont.
“It’s quite a shock to learn that one can be misledfor so long. Either there was something wrong withme or there was something wrong withevolutionary theory. Naturally, I know there isnothing wrong with me, so for the last few weeksI’ve tried putting a simple question to variouspeople and groups. Question is: Can you tell meanything you know about evolution? Any onething, any one thing that is true?”
