Daniel 9:1-3

Daniel 9:1-3 (KJV) 1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans; 2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. 3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

Daniel 9:4-19

Daniel 9:4 (KJV) And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

Daniel 9:4-19

Too often we rush into God's presence and ask for things, without first pausing to worship Him. Daniel prepared himself for prayer, as did Ezra (Ezra 9:3-5) and the Levites (Neh. 9:5-6). It's important that we focus on the character of God and not become too preoccupied with ourselves and our burdens. The "invocation" to Daniel's prayer is a primer of biblical theology. His words describe a God who is great and faithful to keep His promises, a God who loves His people and gives them His Word to obey so that He can bless them.

• The Words here- Keeping the Covenant- Daniel saw this time and time again– With the Dreams in Daniel 2– With the Protection of the remnant in Daniel 3

and 6– And now with the promise of the End times seen

• Keeping the covenant was also a theme of the New Testament– 2 Cor. 1:20– 2 Peter 1:14• Partakers- Means Heaven- Divine Nature is in Heaven-

Revelation 21- Not here on earth as it is being taught by many now.

• This scripture on partaking of the divine nature is taken out of context by the Word of Faith Movement.

The Word of God

• Exodus 20:3 (KJV) Thou shalt have no other gods before me. • John 14:6-7 (KJV) 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the

truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

• Acts 4:12 (KJV) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

“Partakers of the Divine Nature”- Our Covenant

• We will not partake of the divine nature until we get to heaven.– Revelation 4-5- Worship Scenes– Revelation 21:7- The Term son in the Greek • Outside of Revelation we are referred to as teknon

which means adopted sons and daughters but in Revelaiton we are referred to as vuinos• English Words used in KJV:

– Son of Man + <G444>– Son of God + <G2316>

“Partakers of the Divine Nature”- Our Covenant

• This does not mean we are God, but being in God’s Presence we are glorified and I firmly believe this refers to our glorified bodies in heaven.

• Bottom Line- WE ARE NOT GOD!

Daniel 9:4-19

Daniel 9:5-7 (KJV) 5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: 6 Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.

Daniel 9:8-11 (KJV) 8 O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. 9 To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; 10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. 11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.

Daniel 9:12-15 (KJV) 12 And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem. 13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth. 14 Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice. 15 And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

Daniel 9:4-15• Several times in Israel's ministry, the intercession of one

person brought about the nation's deliverance from judgment. On two occasions, God was ready to wipe out the entire Jewish nation, but the intercession of Moses stayed His hand (Ex. 32:7-14; Num. 14:10-25). God answered Elijah's prayer and sent the rain that was so desperately needed (1 Kings 18), and He heard Jehoshaphat's prayer and gave Israel victory over the large invading army of Moabites and Ammonites (2 Chron. 20). King Hezekiah cried out to God when the Assyrian army surrounded Jerusalem, and the Lord sent His angel to slay 185,000 enemy soldiers (Isa. 37; 2 Kings 19). God doesn't have to wait for the entire nation to repent and cry out for mercy; He will start to work when He hears the believing prayers of one faithful intercessor.

Daniel 9:4-15

• Daniel interceded through a repentive heart. He cried out for forgiveness of sin. He responded to the conviction and judgment of God.

• Folks if we want God to answer our prayer our prayer and heart must be the same.

• Through Daniel’s Life He Defeated Sin– He did not particpate in it- Daniel 1– He focused on God- Daniel 3,6– He took in God’s Word through the visions he saw-

Daniel 7-9– He Prayed- Daniel 6,9We Too must do the same to defeat sin in our life:

1. Stop Participation in Sin

Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

Daniel 9:4-19Daniel 9:16-19 (KJV) 16 O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. 17 Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake. 18 O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies. 19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

Daniel 9:4-19

God in His grace gives us what we don't deserve, and God in His mercy doesn't give us what we do deserve. Daniel asked the Lord to turn away His anger from Jerusalem and the holy temple. He admits that the sins of Israel (including Daniel) were the cause of that great catastrophe, but that God had promised to forgive if His people would repent and confess their sins.

Daniel 9:4-19

God answered Daniel's prayer. The next year, Cyrus issued a decree that permitted the Jews to return to their land, take the temple treasures with them, rebuild the temple, and restore the worship. What a remarkable ministry Daniel had in Babylon! He was counselor to four kings, intercessor for the people of Israel, a faithful witness to the true and living God, and the author of one of the basic books of prophecy in the Old Testament.
