Children Welcome * RSVP (Spots are limited) – dtrc.ca * Lunch Provided The Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists (CADA) and Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC) recognize the challenges and unique needs that parents face within the precarious dance profession. This series has evolved from member and community input and we are pleased that Dancing Through Parenthood serves as an on-going platform to listen, share, support and animate resources for dancing parents. 1. CREATING WITHIN PARENTING with Allison Cummings (10:00am-12:00pm) This two-hour workshop will be focused on centring our choreographic artistic lives. Participants will be encouraged to dig into their parental lives as a resource for their exploration. Starting with simple writing and building with creative response exercises on our feet, the workshop will serve to get our juices flowing and directly connect our practice to the content of the day. 2. LUNCH BREAK (12:00pm-1:00pm) 3. PARENT RESOURCES & INSPIRIATION (1:00pm – 1:45pm) An information and resource sharing session facilitated by Bee Pallomina In this session we will discuss the new CADA west childcare subsidy. We will also share info on existing parent resources and discuss possible resources and inspiration for dance artists. Please come with any ideas and resources you have to share. Some questions to consider: •What can we do better as a community to support parents? (classes, shows etc) •What resources can you share? (residencies, online resources etc) •What inspiration have you found? (work by artists who are parents etc) 4. BREAK (1:45-2:00pm) 5. ELDER DISCUSSION: Had Kids, Still Dancing (2:00pm-3:00pm) Moderated by Patricia Fraser (DTRC Board Member) Panelists: Vivine Scarlett, Karen Kaeja, and more An intergenerational conversation about the journey of having children, and continuing to dance. Dancers who have fully grown children will share knowledge with those beginning parenthood or thinking about being a parent - while dancing professionally. The conversation will engage in the following topics: •The destabilizing nature of parenthood coupled with the precarity of dance •Dealing with the feeling of isolation from the dance community as new parents •Learning about the key issues that previous generations dealt with. What has changed? What is the same? •Affirmation that your kids will be ok!
