‘Summer’s here and the time is right for dancin’ in the streets’ – and in the parks, on the hills, at the carnival, as we look ahead to Big Dance Week (5-13 July).

Accelerate youth dance platform, Gold Star primary dance, IN Fused disability positive performance all demonstrate some of the best dance taking place in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The Big Dance Weekend on 12 and 13 July will see seven Sightseers outdoor performances take place across the West Midlands. At Easter, choreographer David McKenna artistic director of Beingfrank Physical Theatre, began work with dance artists in each of the seven West Midlands counties. They in turn have been working with their groups to create a performance for their local area.

DFA will have no rest: after performing in Sightseers they will be working with choreographer Marie Oldaker to create a promenade performance, Quiet Revolution. Jointly commissioned by Wyre Forest District Council and Bromsgrove and Redditch Borough Council, DFA will be joined by community dance groups in a performance that commemorates the role women played on the home front during World War 1. Big Dance Week 5 - 13 JulyA national celebration of all styles of dance that takes place every two years.

For the first time Dancefest is the Big Dance Hub organisation for the West Midlands and has been working with partners from Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley and the Black Country, Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire.

Sightseers come armed with phones, maps, bags, drinks, umbrellas, picnics....Sightseers are seven different free outdoor performances that make you look at your surroundings and each other with new eyes!

David McKenna, Artistic Director of Beingfrank Physical Theatre, has worked with dance artists in each of the West Midlands counties, who have then developed their own performances with groups from their local communities.
