Ecosan as defined in the Clean Water Act…

“..as an approach with the objective of closing the nutrient loop between sanitation & agriculture”

(Article 2. Definition of Terms)

As defined in the CWA

Ecosan incorporates ecological principles:

1.Conscious conservation of resources

2.Recycling and reuse

3.Minimization of energy and water use

4.Pollution prevention

5.Rendering recyclables (human excreta and greywater) safe for reuse

• Exemption from wastewater charges and liabilities. – LGUs undertaking or about to undertake

Ecosan technologies... shall be exempted from wastewater charges or other liabilities for seven years from effectivity of the Act…

• House Bill No. 3279 is an Act mandating the adoption and implementation of ecological sanitation as a method of sustainable urban development program and institutionalizing the integrated support and facilities towards sustainable urban environment development, appropriating funds therefor and for other purposes.
