FISHERIES SERVICE PASCAGOULA FISHERIES FA-

CILITY THAT WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED BY HUR-

RICANE KATRINA.

THE $21 MILLION, 50,000 SF FACILITY CONSISTS

OF APPR. ONE-THIRD BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY

LABORATORY SPACE WITH THE REMAINING

TWO-THIRDS BEING OFFICE, STORAGE, ME-

CHANICAL/ELECTRICAL SPACE AND OTHER AN-

CILLARY SPACE. SITE WORK, RETAINING WALLS,

PAVING, UTILITIES, SECURITY AND OTHER ASSO-

CIATED WORK IS INCLUDED IN THIS PROJECT.

THIS PROJECT WAS A DESIGN-BUILD PRODUCT

WITH A LOCAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY.

THIS PROJECT TOOK A LEED GOLD

CERTIFICATE AND WAS CALLED AS A TEMPLATE

FOR FUTURE LABORATORIES FOR THE

GOVERNMENT

AGENCY.

THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING IS BRICK TO

MATCH THE NEIGHBORING BUILDINGS.

LIGHT GET TO THE CORE OF THE BUILDING WITH

THE CLERESTORIES.

PROJECT : VA PITTSBURGH HEINZ ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, PITTSBURGH, PA

THE VA COMMISSIONED ASTORINO/HDR FOR FULL A/E SERVICES ON 5 BUILD-

INGS (ADMINISTRATIVE, DOMICILIARY, AMBULATORY CARE, CONSOLIDATION

AND RESEARCH OFFICE). THE REPLACEMENT BUILDING PROVIDES FOR INPA-

TIENT AND OUTPATIENT MENTAL HEALTH ACTIVITIES. THE CONSOLIDATION

BUILDING

FEATURES AN OUTPATIENT PSYCHIATRIC CARE SERVICES. THE PROJECT IS

APPROXIMATELY 535,000 SF AT A BUDGETED CONSTRUCTION COST OF $163.6

MILLION. DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION ARE DUE TO VA CONSOLIDATION FROM

THREE TO TWO CAMPUSES. THE RESULTING COMPLEX WILL PROVIDE A STATE-

OF-THE-ART ENVIRONMENT WHILE REDUCING OPERATING EXPENSES.

THE JOB CONSIST ON PROVIDING FULL A/E SERVICES AND COMMIS-

SIONING OF THE $154 MILLION, 540,000 SF FOR THE PRIMARY AND SEC-

ONDARY BUILDING SYSTEM MODIFICATIONS AND UPGRADES TO SAT-

ISFY SEISMIC CODE AND HAZARDOUS MATERIAL MITIGATION REQUIRE-

MENTS.

THE SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDES REVIEW AND REVISE THE CURRENT FA-

CILITIES MASTER PLAN. THE PLAN IS TO DEVELOP A 2ND FLOOR ABOVE

THE EXISTING OUTPATIENT CENTER FOR RELOCATED OUTPATIENT CLIN-

ICS, A SIX-STORY ADMINISTRATION OFFICE BUILDING ADJACENT TO THE

HOSPITAL MAIN ENTRANCE , DEMOLITION OF AN EXISTING BED TOWER

AND THE RENOVATION OF FIRST AND SECOND FLOOR EXISTING DIAG-

NOSTIC AND TREATMENT/SUPPORT SPACES OF THE EXISTING FACILITY.

THIS PROJECT IS LEED-NC REGISTERED.

PROJECT : VASJ OUTPATIENT ADDITION, SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO.

THE MOST ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANT SPACE ON

THE PROJECT IS THE CENTRAL CIRCULATION AREA

WHICH WILL CONNECT THE NEW OUTPATIENT ADDI-

TION WITH THE HOSPITAL AND THE NEW

ADMINISTRATION

BUILDING. THIS SPACE COMPRISES FIVE LEVELS UNDER

A GLASS CLERESTORY THAT WILL BRING LIGHT TO THE

BASEMENT LEVEL.THE

STRUCTURE OF THE SPACE HAS BEEN COVERED WITH

STONE THAT WILL ALLOW FOR THE REFLECTION OF THE

LIGHT IN ALL THE SPACES.

ALL THE LEVELS ARE CONECTED BY TERRAZZO COVERED

STEPS AND GLASS RAILING TO

PROPOSE A FEELING OF A UPLIFTING SPACE.

THE ADDITION WAS BUILT WITH A SPECIFIC PRECAST

SYSTEM THAT HAS REDUCED WEIGHT THAT HELPS MITI-

GATE THE SEISMIC ISSUES THAT PLAGUE THE CURRENT

BUILDING.

THE SYSTEM CONSIST IN A 2” PRECAST CONCRETE

PANEL ON A 8” STRUCTURAL STUD.

THIS SYSTEM HAS BEEN USED IN THE AREA FOR THE

FIRST TIME WITH GREAT RESULTS.
