WeBWorK is an Internet-based system for generating and delivering homework problems to students. Also I use LyX, LaTex, CoPlot, Java, Maple, MatLab to prepare class notes, study materials, quizzes, tests, numerical/computational work. I use Interactive applets for calculus courses. I have used Early Warning System (Utility from ASSIST). This

alerts students who are missing classes/HW.

Study Abroad Program for College Algebra:

Proposed Faculty Led Study Abroad Program for MATH 1340 and MATH 1460 for Summer, 2010 at

the University of Salamanca, Spain. Program was approved by administration. Due to lack of enough

students, the courses did not make it.

NSF/CBMS Regional Research Conference-2010 on Mathematical Sciences was held in May 17-21, 2010,

at UTPA. As a member of the organizing committee I offered my service in many different ways.

STMC-2009: Organizing committee member for South Texas Mathematics Consortium, UTPA, Feb 2009.

Texas Section of Mathematical Association of America (MAA) was organized at UTPA in April 12-14,

2007. As a member of the organizing committee, I volunteered my service in various ways for all the days

during the event. Also a course was offered on “Fractional Calculus, Theory and Applications” by me and the

Chair of our department as a workshop and it was attended by 37 faculty and students from various

universities/colleges throughout Texas.

5th International Conference on Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems was held at the University

of Texas-Pan American, Edinburg, TX, December 16-18, 2006. Participants came from various parts of the

world. I chaired a session at this conference.

NSF/CBMS Regional Research Conference-2005 on New Perspectives for Boundary Value Problems and

their Asymptotics was held in May 16-20, 2005, at UTPA. As a member of the organizing committee I offered

my service in many different ways.

Texas PDE 2005: Texas Partial Differential Equations conference was held at UTPA in March 19, 2005. I

helped in preparing the schedule for the conference. Also I offered my service locally to various participants

whenever they needed. In addition to that I presented a paper in that conference.

Majors’ Fair: Participated in the Majors Fairs organized by the Student and Academic Services to promote

various courses offered by our College several times.

Graduate Fair: Participated in Graduate Fair on March 12, 2015 at the Fieldhouse, on March 6-2014 in the

Community Engagement and Student Success Building (CESS). We talked and distributing brochures to our

graduate program to future students. Most participants were from various RGV High Schools.

Community Service in South Texas:

House Bill-5: College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) High School Course: Final Exam Development: Helped in developing final exams for College Prep Math (CPM) courses: CPM-

A & CPM-B. Final exam for Fall-2014 and Spring-2015 were developed.

Distribution: Distributed the exams to more than 20 high schools throughout South Texas in two different

formats, WebWork and PDF. Some of the participating high schools include Edinburg High, Lamar,

Hidalgo ECHS, LyJoya, Mission, RG City High, San Benito, Sharyland, Weslaco High, Weslaco East

High, Lasara, LyFord, Monte Alto, Valley View High.

Assessment: Developed assessment questionnaires to evaluate the Student Learning Outcomes for both

courses for both semesters. This was sent to all participating high schools. Then prepared the assessment

report based on the responses received from the instructors.

Workshop for HB-5: Participated in several workshops related to House Bill-5. We met various teachers

from different high schools to explain about College Prep Math courses: CPM-A and CPM-B syllabuses

and evaluation procedures, especially the final exams for CPM-A and CPM-B. Discussed various issues

regarding final exams of CPM-A & CPM-B for both semester:

2015 High School Math Contest: Co-organized 2015 High School Math Contest on April 18, 2015. I visited

several high schools in spring 2015. The total number of high schools participated in this event was 8.

The contest consisted of two parts: Part-I had multiple choice questions and Part-II had free response

questions.

RGVCTM Conference 2014: Helped organizer of The Rio Grande Valley Council of Teachers of

Mathematics (RGVCTM) in Nov 15th, 2014 by completing the assigned MAGC classrooms activities.

2014 High School Math Contest: Co-organized 2014 High School Math Contest on April 26, 2014. I visited

several high schools for this activity. The total number of high school participated was six. Visited the

schools to handover certificates/prizes to winners.

RGVCTM Conference 2013: Helped organizer of The Rio Grande Valley Council of Teachers of

Mathematics (RGVCTM) in Nov 3rd, 2013 by completing the assigned MAGC classrooms activities.

2013 High School Math Contest: Co-organized 2013 High School Math Contest on April 27, 2013. I visited

several high schools. The total number of participants in this event was 113 from the following high

schools: Edinburg High School, Johnny Economedes High School, Robert Vela High School, Business

Education & Technology Academy (BETA), Pharr San Juan & Alamo (PSJA) North High School,

McAllen Memorial High School and Science Academy.

RGVCTM Conference 2012: I offered my service in The Rio Grande Valley Council of Teachers of

Mathematics (RGVCTM) in Nov 17th, 2012 in the assigned MAGC classrooms to take care of events in

these rooms. This meeting was attended by about 500 attendees.

Regional Science Bowl Judge: I served as a judge for six rounds for five different teams from Middle

Schools (including schools from Corpus Christi) on Feb 23, 2013.

Secondary Science Fair Judge: I served in Weslaco ISD Secondary Science Fair, January 26th 2013 as a

judge. I judged 10 posters and interviewed the presenters. Among these 10, five posters were presented

by 9-12 graders and other five posters were presented by 6-8 graders. We were provided specific

guidelines regarding the distribution of scores and trained for about thirty minutes before the

competition. While interviewing, I tried to give constructive comments to improve their work for next

level which is regional competition.

OTHER EXPERIENCES

Previous Academic and Industrial Experiences:

(08/2003 - 08/2004): Assistant Professor, Mathematics, Louisiana State University, Alexandria.

I have taught various courses including Calculus and College Algebra at the Louisiana State

University at Alexandria during 2003-04 academic year. I used technology in the class to teach the

college algebra course.

(08/2002 - 08/2003): Lecture in Mathematics, University of Texas - Pan American, Edinburg.

I taught courses (College Algebra , Business Algebra , Business Calculus , Calculus II, Calculus III,

Differential Equations) at the undergraduate level at the University of Texas - Pan American.

(1995 - 1996): Post Doctoral work at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada.

Implemented a computational finite element model to solve partial differential equation (heat

conduction) to analyze confined single crystal growth. Finite element method was used to compute

the solution. This project was funded by Canadian Space agency.

(1998 – 08/2002): Manugistics Inc, Atlanta, GA.

Developed/Enhanced Enterprise Profit Optimization software for airline and car rental industries.

Implemented on HP-UX, AIX and SunOS using C++, Rational Rose, Rogue Wave, SQL, Perl, and

shell scripts.

(1997 - 1998): SHL System House Ltd., Ottawa, Canada.

Developed a C++ Object library for CFSSU specialized software team. Implemented an application

for Symbol Technologies' portable data collection terminals. Implemented on Windows NT platform

using Visual C++.

(1996 - 1997): Park Medical Systems Inc, Montreal, Canada.

Developed image processing software using C++/C/Motif on SunOS/Solaris. Implemented image

reconstruction algorithm for fan beam. Designed and implemented the User Interfaces for iterative

reconstruction procedure.

(1986 - 1991): Oil and Natural Gas Commission, Dehradun, India. Developed and implemented various seismic signal processing algorithms (including wavelet

deconvolution) using FORTRAN in VAX, IBM-370, IBM-3083.
