The SIX pumps are equally divided into two types - Group A and Group B. The three Group A pumps will take water from the reservoir and transport it along a 6.2km-long (3.8 mile) steel pipeline, measuring 1.8m (6ft) in diameter, to provide irrigation to 1 1,720 acres of higher ground. A 900kW (1200hp) motor will drive this process at 600rpm. The Group A pumps will meet an initial duty point of 42m (138ft) of total differential head, at 6,325 m3/h of flow (27,800gpm). The remaining three Group B pumps will be deployed on a similar duty, taking water from the reservoir and transporting it along a different, 7.9km-long steel pipeline (4.9 miles) to ensure adequate irrigation for 1 1,400 acres of land. The Group B pumps will provide 6,225 m3/h of flow (27,40Ogpm), at 47m (154ft) of head and will be driven by motors rated at 1,OOOkW (1,350hp). The sale and supply contract was handled by Flow- serve Corporation’s Pump Division in Dallas, Texas, USA. The pumps will begin operations later this year. WORLD PUMPS May 2003
