In the past few years Andhra Pradesh has leapfrogged to become one of the foremost states in dairy development. The state government is setting for itself new visions and goals for development and advancement of the dairy sector with various development schemes for the sector. Over 4 million dairy farmers and their dependents will be the direct beneficiaries of these progressive schemes.

Integration of dairying into traditional agriculture has proven to be a sustainable income source for many. Its definite that government will continue to encourage, guide and assist more traditional farmers to take up dairying to enhance their household income.

Government of AP will relentlessly work with all stakeholders in this sector to strengthen the dairy chain in the state and better manage the dairy supply chain with optimal management of seasonal surplus as well as shortage of milk.

I am sure events like Dairy Show will help farmers in the state to gain all essential tips to enhance their skills in animal rearing and dairy business management.

Against the backdrop of the successful dairy development rollouts in the state and its positive outcome we are embarking on a further drive to improve the dairy farming sector in the state. I welcome knowledge initiatives like Dairy Show and Animal Husbandry Department is committed in supporting such initiatives.The need of the hour is to focus on the three basics of dairy farming – Breeding, Feeding & Health and reiterate it as many times through farmer education as well as extension practices. Time and again it’s found that ignoring these three essentials have proven to be fatal to dairy farming. I suggest all dairy farmers, VET Professionals, private sector companies, institutions and associations to actively participate in the various deliberations during the event

In recent times with livestock and productivity enhancement schemes and plans rolled out by both the central and state governments many individuals, traditional farmers and large investors got into dairying in our state. This has resulted in a remarkable improvement of milk production however without much support structures in terms of co-operative procurement, supply chain & logistics management. The milk glut what we have been witnessing in the state is part of a ill planned dairy development without much focus on all links in the milk chain.

Against this backdrop its imperative that the state government implement various schemes to enhance setting up of supply chain and logistics infrastructure as well as increase production capacity of dairy co-operatives managed by the government. Its also to be noted that our VET services network needs a drastic improvement.

The state dairy processing sector largely with private players needs to make their businesses on a sustainable model taking into account the minimum support price to be paid to be farmers without which the dairying cannot become viable.

We are proud to present the second edition of the dairy show to a discerning dairy sector in AP. The second edition being showcased when the sector is rowing against formidable tides caused by milk glut, large pile up of SMP resulting in woos for the farmers.

However the massive response and encouraging support we have been receiving from the stakeholders of the sector shows that the sector despite odds shows its resilience. To create viable knowledge platform for the dairy farmers in the state we also rolled out a regional level interactive seminars called DEDP. The overwhelming support and participation in for these programs in which hundreds of farmers participated shows that the Dairying is here to stay.

Dairy Sector’s Big Show

Dairyshow – a three day event was organized in Hyderabad from 13-15 July at Hyderabad International Trade Expositions Ltd. The event was organized jointly by Active Expositions and HITEX in association with Government of AP. The event was also supported by NABARD, SERP, Progressive Dairy Farmers Association (AP) & FAPCCI.

The first edition of the event was set against the backdrop of AP’s Dairy sector emerging as the fastest growing in the country. AP is the second largest milk producing state in India as well as has the largest population of dairy livestock in the country. Another unique positioning of AP is the state having one of the largest private sector dairies with a plethora of dairy brands s like, Vijaya, Heritage, Creamline Dairy, Tirumala, Dodla, Masquati, Sangam Dairy, Vishaka Dairy etc. Majority of the AP based dairy brands have forayed into other states with their diversified brand portfolio.

The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest - Shri.Kiran Kumar Reddy – Hon’ble Chief Minister of AP with industry representatives and senior government officials joining him. In his inaugural address he asked all farmers to diversify into dairy farming as dairying has been positively impacting the rural income and changing rural lifestyles. India Dairy Association AP Chapter was also launched during the event by the Chief Guest.

Over 40,000 visitors from all segments of dairy such as dairy farming, processing visited the three day expo. Apart from the expo of dairy equipments, technology and services by over 80 exhibitors a live display of dairy animals was also organized.

The concurrent seminars on management and technology of dairy farming attracted over 500 delegates. A huge number of professionals from IT, Real Estate & other non diary sectors attended the seminars as many of them are planning their foray into dairy farming and processing at different parts of the state.
