DAILY MATH SKILLSDMS
OBJECTIVES•Determine the purpose of DMS
•Plan for implementation of DMS at our school •Understand how DMS will look in the classroom
PURPOSE
• Increase student achievement and confidence in Math
• Student focus shifts to problem solving rather than basic facts
• More students exceed the AIMS
IN THE CLASSROOM• EACH DAY FOR 20 MINUTES
• SCHOOL WIDE AT THE SAME TIME
• PRACTICE, ASSESS, CORRECT, RECORD
• STUDENTS MOVE ON TO THE NEXT PROBE ONCE CLASS MASTERY IS MET
MATERIALS NEEDED
• Probes
• Answer keys
• Student progress chart
• Coach cards for each teacher
• Flash cards for each class
• Timer for each class
CLASS PROCEDURE
• Teacher reads instructions from coach card
• Students practice in pairs with flashcards or with practice sets, depending on which skill is being covered; Focus is accuracy
(6 minutes)
• Students individually take probe; Focus is speed and accuracy (2 minutes)
CLASS PROCEDURES
• Students score papers (3 minutes)
• Students rework problems they missed (1 minute)
• Scores are recorded in weekly progress chart (2 minutes)
NEXT STEPS
• DMS will be implemented one grade level at a time
• Training will be provided on Wednesday per team
• Implementation will begin the following week for each trained team
• Implementation schedule will be as follows: Third, Fourth, Fifth, Second, First, Kindergarten
