Somewhere between hearing his name called in the Major League Baseball draft and taking the trip to Omaha for the College World Series, Curry has found a way to contain his sheer gid- diness. It hasn’t been easy but it has been fun. The list of good happenings is long but none of them are by chance. Curry has earned the right to be excited about everything that is going on in his life. “I got drafted, that’s one of my top goals, go- ing to Omaha has always been a dream since I was about 8 years old watching TV and watch- ing those guys play. Now I get the opportunity to play there myself, it’s pretty awesome,” Curry said. All the good news started when the former Red Oak standout heard his name called in the 16 th round of the MLB First Year Player Draft on June 8. He was selected by the Minnesota Twins. That was a 21-round change from last season when Curry was selected by Pittsburgh in the 37 th round. His stats bear out the rise in his stock – a .346 batting average (fifth best on the team) and team highs in walks (54) and home runs (17) make him one of the most vaunted weap- ons the Horned Frogs have. His 26 doubles and 544 putouts are both single season records in the program and the 54 walks tie the single season record. He has also accumulated 60 RBI and scored 62 runs. All those numbers added up to Curry being selected as a Mountain West first-team all-con- ference player. But the personal success takes a backseat to the run TCU is currently on. After being part of the team that set the record for most wins last season, Curry and his team- mates came back with an even better 2010 with a 51-12 record, a seventh-straight Mountain West Conference title and more importantly the program’s first trip to the College World Series Red Oak alum living a dream scenario to the finish Photo courtesy of TCU Media Relations Red Oak alum Matt Curry helped TCU earn its first College World Series berth with the best season in school history. 2010 College World Series Game 1 Saturday 1 p.m TCU vs. Florida St Game 6 or 5 Monday 4:30 or 9 p.m. TCU vs. TBA See CURRY, Page 4B By ALEX RILEY Daily Light sports writer Graphic Illustration by Alex Riley/The Daily Light Harrison opens career with trip to Omaha The fact that Oklahoma advanced to the College World Series really doesn’t surprise Drew Harrison. Back home in Omaha

Curry enjoys perfect stretchThere’s luck. There’s good fortune. And then,

there’s the stretch TCU first baseman Matt Curry is having.

Somewhere between hearing his name called in the Major League Baseball draft and taking the trip to Omaha for the College World Series, Curry has found a way to contain his sheer gid-diness. It hasn’t been easy but it has been fun.

The list of good happenings is long but none of them are by chance. Curry has earned the right to be excited about everything that is going on in his life.

“I got drafted, that’s one of my top goals, go-ing to Omaha has always been a dream since I was about 8 years old watching TV and watch-ing those guys play. Now I get the opportunity to play there myself, it’s pretty awesome,” Curry said.

All the good news started when the former Red Oak standout heard his name called in the 16th round of the MLB First Year Player Draft on June 8. He was selected by the Minnesota Twins. That was a 21-round change from last season when Curry was selected by Pittsburgh in the 37th round.

Harrison opens career with trip to Omaha

The fact that Oklahoma advanced to the College World Series really doesn’t surprise Drew Harrison. The Sooners were a good team all season with tal-ented players who posted a 49-16 re-cord.

Going to Omaha might not be sur-prising but the situation Waxahachie native has been put in is a little dif-ferent. This season, Omaha’s famed Rosenblatt Stadium will host its final championship tournament after 60 years of memories. The cathedral to college baseball has served as the site for memorable games, standout play-

ers and amazing moments. Harrison is just happy to add his name to the list of people to get the opportunity to add another memory.

“The cool thing is that it’s the last

year that it’s being played in that sta-dium. I’m pretty lucky to get to go my freshman year,” Harrison said.
