Daily Christian Advocate Proceedings of the 2012 Southeastern Jurisdiconal Conference of The United Methodist Church “Whom Shall I Send?” VOLUME XVIV, No. 2 Lake Junaluska, N.C. Wdnesday, July 18, 2012 By Stephanie Drum Stuart Auditorium at Lake Junaluska, N.C., has been a sacred place of consecration for the South- eastern Jurisdictional Conference since 1956. Although predominantly a time of holy conferencing, when delegates convene to elect ordained elders to the episcopacy and to vote on business matters, Jurisdictional Conference is also a time of reflec- tion and worship, celebrating the ministry and lives of those who serve. Prior to 1956, the first sessions of the Southeastern Juris- dictional Conference were held in various churches and auditoriums throughout the southeast until the conference found a permanent home at Lake Junaluska. Since then, Lake Junaluska has been blessed each quadrennium by the pres- ence of thousands of delegates and church leaders from across the Southeast. “We don’t know for sure, but we speculate there have been more United Methodist bishops conse- crated in Stuart Auditorium than any other one place in the nation,” said Ken Howle, director of advance- ment at Lake Junaluska.
