Overview of WSAA
The Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) is the peak industry body representing
the urban water industry. Our members provide water and sewerage services to over 20
million customers in Australia and New Zealand and many of Australia's largest industrial
and commercial enterprises.
Based around our vision of 'customer driven, enriching life', WSAA facilitates collaboration,
knowledge sharing, networking and cooperation within the urban water industry. We are
proud of the collegiate attitude of our members which has led to industry-wide approaches
to national water issues.
WSAA can demonstrate success in the standardisation of industry performance monitoring
and benchmarking, as well as many research outcomes of national significance. The WSAA
Executive retains strong links with policy makers and legislative bodies and their influencers,

1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Daemco Australia Pty Ltd (Daemco) is a privately-owned business established in December
2014.
Dalian Reliable Industrial Co Ltd (DRIC), located in Dalian, Liaoning Province, Peoples
Republic of China, manufactures Daemco’s Reinoversal Unrestrained Mechanical
Couplings.
This appraisal covers DN 80 to DN 150 couplings with short barrel and DN 80 to DN 600
couplings with long barrel configurations. The end rings are thermal bonded polymeric
coated ductile iron and the barrels are manufactured from Grade 316 stainless steel.
The Daemco Reinoversal Unrestrained Mechanical Coupling range has OceanaMark ISO
Type 5 product certification to AS/NZS 4998:2009 Bolted unrestrained mechanical couplings
for waterworks purposes.
DRIC and Daemco both hold ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System licences.
The product range included in this appraisal report meets the requirements of WSA PS –
270 Mechanical Couplings, Non-End Thrust Restraint for Pressure Applications – Water
Supply and Sewerage. The Daemco Reinoversal Unrestrained Mechanical Couplings have
been deemed to comply with the WSAA Product Specification and are therefore considered
as ‘fit-for-purpose’.
Issue 2 of this Report recognises Daemco holds AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 Quality
Management System certification, issued by Best Practice Certification, under licence No
1600. The Scope of Certification covers the design, manufacture and distribution of industrial
products for the water supply, sewerage, drainage, electrical gas and communications
industry.
Issue 3 of this Report recognises that Daemco Reinoversal Couplings has been tested to
demonstrate compliance to AS/NZS 4020 and successfully completed a field trial installation
endorsed by Yarra Valley Water.
Issue 4 of the Report replaces and updates and Figure 1 Coupling Packaging.
Issue 5 of this Report extends the range of long barrel couplings to include DN 225 to DN
600. QA details were also updated.
1.1 Recommendations
It is recommended that WSAA members, subject to any specific requirements of the member
or associate, accept or authorise Daemco Reinoversal Couplings in sizes DN 80 to DN 600,
as detailed in this report, for use in waterworks purposes, provided they are installed in
accordance with WSAA Codes and the manufacturer’s requirements, where specified.
2 THE APPLICANT
2.1 The Supplier
Daemco Australia Pty Ltd, a private company established in December 2014, is an original
design manufacturer with research and development capabilities, specialising in the water
industry.
The Executive Director of Daemco, Anthony Favero, has been actively involved in the
Australian water industry since 2006 having been engaged in quality, training, project
management, manufacturing and marketing roles, including PVC pipe manufacture.

2.2 The Manufacturer
DRIC is a manufacturer and trading group specialising in the export of ferrous and non-
ferrous metal castings and forgings. Its products include water valves and fittings, power line

fittings, fire-fighting equipment, motor and pump parts, automotive and machine parts. DRIC
has been engaged in exporting products to Europe and America since 1994 and also exports
to countries including Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Colombia, Brazil, Russia, UAE, Saudi
Arabia, Australia and New Zealand.
The company designs and manufactures a wide range of products that include valves for the
building services, fire protection, industrial and water market segments.
The unrestrained mechanical couplings are assembled and tested at the DRIC
manufacturing facility. Components are sourced locally in accordance with Daemco and
DRIC specifications. Polymeric coatings are applied in-house utilising the fluidised bed
application technique.
The company has a quality management system licensed to ISO 9001 and holds various
product certifications including WRAS, FM and UL for its export range of products. It has
one commercial office and three manufacturing facilities, with differing specialist capabilities,
employing more than 200 people.
3 THE PRODUCT
The Daemco Reinoversal Couplings comprise a range of unrestrained mechanical couplings
suitable for jointing spigot ends of pipe manufactured from grey or ductile iron, steel, PVC-
U, PVC-M, PVC-O, GRP and asbestos cement.
This appraisal covers DN 80 to DN 150 couplings with short barrel and DN 80 to DN 600
couplings with long barrel configurations. The end rings are thermal bonded polymeric
coated ductile iron and the barrels are manufactured from Grade 316 stainless steel.
The complete range of available couplings is given in Tables 1 and 2.

4 SCOPE OF THE APPRAISAL
This appraisal considers Daemco Reinoversal Couplings, DN 80 to DN 600, as listed in
Tables 1 and 2 and contained within the product schedule included in the OceanaMark
product certification. See Appendix B.
5 APPRAISAL CRITERIA
5.1 Quality Assurance Requirements
The WSAA Product Appraisal Network accepts bolted unrestrained mechanical couplings
manufactured in compliance with AS/NZS 4998:2009 Bolted unrestrained mechanical
couplings for waterworks purposes and duly certified by means of an ISO Type 5 product
certification scheme undertaken by a JAS-ANZ accredited Conformity Assessment Body
(CAB) or by an international accreditation system recognised by JAS-ANZ.
The manufacturer is generally expected to have a production management and control
system that has been duly accredited in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 9001 as a prerequisite
to undergoing a product certification audit.
5.2 Performance Requirements
Daemco Reinoversal couplings have been appraised for compliance with AS/NZS 4998:2009
Bolted unrestrained mechanical couplings for waterworks purposes.
Appraisal criteria are also determined by the WSAA Product Appraisal Technical Advisory
Group and regularly reviewed to ensure that the criteria reflect the requirements of WSAA
members.
The following Product Specification is also relevant to this application:
WSA PS 270 – Mechanical Coupling Non-End Thrust Restraint for Pressure Applications
A copy of the above Product Specification can be found in Appendix C or downloaded from
the WSAA website.
6 COMPLIANCE WITH APPRAISAL CRITERIA
6.1 Compliance with Quality Assurance Requirements
The supplier, Daemco Australia Pty Ltd, has a Quality Management System in compliance
with ISO 9001:2008, Certificate No.1600, issued by Best Practice Certi fication.
The manufacturer, Dalian Reliable Industrial Co Ltd, has a Quality Management System in
compliance with ISO 9001:2008, Certificate No. 01 100 039053, issued by TUV Rheinland.
The Daemco Reinoversal range of couplings in sizes DN 80 to DN 600 is licenced with
AS/NZS 4998:2009 OceanaMark licence No OMK30051, issued by IAPMO Oceana.
Both Jotaguard VA5001 and Jotacoat 605 have product certification to AS/NZS 4158

licence number SMKP20551 issued by SAI Global.
Copies of the primary Quality Assurance and Product Certification licences have been
included in Appendix B and are also available for downloading from the WSAA Members
Website.
Copies of Quality Assurance certificates have also been submitted for the major component
suppliers and are available on request from WSAA.
6.2 Compliance with Performance Requirements
Type test reports have been submitted to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of
AS/NZS4998:2009 for DN 80 to DN 600 couplings. The standard nominates that where a
coupling range contains two or more couplings of the same nominal size a successful test

on one coupling shall qualify the others, provided the same design criteria can be
demonstrated.
Prove Engineering and Standards, a NATA certified laboratory, conducted the type tests.
6.2.1 Material Requirements
The Reinoversal Coupling range is manufactured using materials conforming to Table 2.1 of
AS/NZS 4998 and shown in Table 3 below. Daemco has provided copies of typical material
test certificates to demonstrate compliance.

6.2.2 Polymeric Coating
Ductile iron components are internally and externally coated with Fusion Bonded Epoxy in
accordance with AS/NZS 4158 at the DRIC manufacturing facility. IAPMO includes auditing
of the coating operation during regular certification surveillance audits.
The coating used is Jotun, Jotaguard VA5001 Fusion Bonded Epoxy and the designated
repair compound is Jotacoat 605. A copy of Jotun’s AS/NZS 4158 StandardsMark licence
has been provided.
6.2.3 Elastomeric Seals
The supplier identity of the EPDM elastomeric seals has not been included in this report for
commercial-in-confidence reasons; however, a type test report has been submitted to
demonstrate compliance with AS1646.
6.2.4 Effect on Water
Test report No 190741 from the Australian Water Quality Centre has been submitted to
demonstrate compliance of the unrestrained mechanical couplings to AS/NZS 4020.
6.2.5 Design
The Reinoversal range of couplings was designed by Daemco and includes short and long
barrel configurations from DN 80 through to DN 600.
6.2.5.1 Coupling barrel lengths
AS/NZS 4998 nominates minimum barrel lengths for both short and long barrel couplings.
The Reinoversal couplings comply with these requirements.
6.2.5.2 Nominal joint deflection
Daemco couplings can be installed with an allowable deflection up to 3° at each coupling
joint for sizes up to DN 300, 2 ½° for DN 375, 2° for DN 450 and DN 500 and 1½° for DN600.
6.2.5.3 Nominal pipe setting gap.
A nominal pipe setting gap for Daemco Reinoversal Couplings is given in the literature
attached in Appendix A.
6.2.5.4 Leak tightness
When installed in accordance with the installation manual the couplings are designed to hold
pressure with maximum deflection.

6.2.5.5 Fasteners
Grade 316 stainless steel fasteners, coated with a galling prevention compound DELTA®-
SEAL GZ, are utilised in the couplings.
6.2.5.6 Welding
Welding of Daemco stainless steel barrels is carried out in accordance with AS/NZS 1554.6
and is capable of meeting the requirements of the inter-granular corrosion test specified in
AS 2205.10.1. All stainless-steel barrels are passivated in accordance with ASTM A380.
Independent weld testing results from Sinclair X-ray Inspection Services have been
submitted to demonstrate compliance.
7 FITTING INSTRUCTIONS, TRAINING AND INSTALLATION
The Daemco Installation Manual for Reinoversal Couplings is attached in Appendix A and is
also available on the Daemco website at www.daemco.com.au.
8 PRODUCT MARKING
Daemco Couplings have cast-in markings in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS
4998:2009. Stainless steel barrels are marked using a stencil.

9 PACKAGING AND TRANSPORTATION
Daemco couplings are packaged on wooden pallets, protected by corrugated cardboard and
shrink wrapped.

10 PRODUCT WARRANTY
The products are covered by the normal commercial and legal requirements of the
Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth). Details of Daemco Australia Pty Ltd warranty
are included in their terms and conditions of sale.

11 WATER AGENCY EXPERIENCE WITH THE PRODUCT OR FIELD TESTING
REPORT
This coupling is new to the Australian market. Daemco has successfully completed a field
trial installation endorsed by Yarra Valley Water. Refer to Appendix E.
12 OUTCOMES OF EXPERT PANEL PRODUCT REVIEW
There are no issues to address.
13 FUTURE WORKS
There are no outstanding future work items.
