    The H.N. and Frances C.Berger Foundation kickedoff the KPSP Local 2Telethon with a $25,000Coachella Valley Spotlightgrant for FIND Food Bank.

    FIND provides food tomore than 90 other nonprofitagencies in the CoachellaValley.

    The telethon coincides withHunger Action Month,Foundation officials said.

    The Academy, a firearmstraining center in Palm

    BUSINESSBRIEFSDesert, played host to afive-day shootingcompetition in which 35national shooting recordswere set.

    The John G. MonkmanSenior Memorial Match,sanctioned by the NationalRifle Association, drew 21entrants. Lloyd Miller, youthprogram director at TheAcademy, said the facilitysnext goal is to host theCalifornia Junior StateOlympic Championship inDecember.

    Promotion leads upto new poker room

    The Agua Caliente CasinoResort Spa in RanchoMirage will open a newpoker room in October.

    The 4,000-square-footpoker room, which will rollout with 16 tables, a largebeverage station and diningtables, new 55-inch waitboard and nine flat-screenTVs, is expected to openmid-October.

    A grand openingcelebration is set for noon to6 p.m. Oct. 30.
