SCHOOL NEWS
On Wednesday 8th February—Friday 10th February, Year Five travelled to RobinWood
Outdoor Activity Centre, near Todmordon, for a two night residential visit.
All the children and staff boarded the coach at 9:30am for the hour and a half journey
to the centre. There was lots of excited chatter on the coach and the children were
having fun too! There was even a guess at the arrival time and a bit of friendly
competition between the staff, which resulted in Mr. Osborn performing a wonderful
curtsy as he left the coach!
On arrival at the destination we prepared for a walk up a VERY STEEP hill to Dobroyd
Castle. Extremely out of breathe and ready for lunch, we were taken to our dorm rooms
and told to pack our kit bags ready for our activities and make our beds. After a lunch
of sandwiches and crisps, we were ready to begin our first activity, which ranged from
Giant Swing to Crate Challenge. After three exhilarating, exciting and exhausting ac-
tivities we had a terrific tea.
Bellies full and ready to go again, we had another adventure including pretending to be
Robin Hood at archery or scaling the dizzying heights of the climbing wall.
The day was still not over as we had to take on the other groups and the staff in Team
Challenge to earn ‘Orbs of Awesomeness.’ Soon everyone realised that it was almost time for bed, a quick cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit then back to dorms for a quick
chat and lights outs. What a great trip!

Things to Make and Do at Easter by Faye Dawson (6C)
Easter is a great time of year to give inexpensive
presents to other people. Not everyone likes eating too
much chocolate at Easter, so why not make some small
Easter buns as a gift and pop them in an egg box for
added cuteness?
If you won’t see your family over Easter, you could send them an Easter card.
If you want to make a small gift for a friend, why not try these jam jar ideas?
Here is a great idea for an egg hunt with a twist! Why not wait until dark to
search for your eggs? You could look inside the house or outside in the
garden… These eggs have glow sticks in them instead of chocolates, but I bet they’re more fun to find!

Easter Wordsearch
Dear reader, if you like stories about happy bunnies and jolly elves – I suggest you rip this page of the newspaper
out. This story is about one unfortunate girl who met something perculiar. This particular story starts on a sunny
Easter morning where two girls are eating their chocolate eggs and getting it everywhere except in their mouths.
Their step-mother, a strict woman who was the sort who would probably try and poison them with an orange, was
sat in the corner and was glowering at the girls who were making a mess of the room with tinfoil and chocolate.
“Thank you Daddy!” one of the girls said, as her dad gave her a huge Barbie egg. The girl was three and her sister was 11. “Now Alice,” their dad said, talking to the 11 year old,” go and get your friends for the Easter egg hunt. And come straight back or the Easter Bunny won’t have laid out all of your eggs for the hunt.” Alice agreed and 15 minutes later she came back with 10 girls who had baskets shaped like chickens, bunnies, lambs and ducklings.
The cluster of girls then walked over to the woods. Folk in the town had said it was enchanted and that if you went
in, you wouldn’t live to the year 1900. For it was 1897 and Queen Victoria was in rule. Alice and Ella’s (that was her sister’s name) father had dropped them off about a mile before the woods. Alice, as she was the oldest, set off into the woods first, then cautiously and carefully other girls followed.
The trees in the woods were purple and brown. They seemed to glimmer in the blocked out sun. Their pink and blue
shoes squelching loudly in the mud, caused a few of the younger girls to laugh. They walked and walked for the next
hour, searching for any sign of an Easter egg. But there was none. None. Not one at all. “Maybe the Easter Bunny wasn’t real after all,” Alice thought to herself, pulling her purple cardigan further up her shoulders. Then they heard a loud roar and a rustle between the bushes nearby. A huge monster came out. He had massive claws and a
vast green body. The girls screamed and ran, bumping into a tall man with a wand. The man wore a long cape and
seemed to have huge ears. The man objected fiercely to the monster. “Not him again!” he muttered and said, “Follow me.”
