1. Description and analysis of retentioncalability of liquid waste retention system.

We have no liquid waste retention system, as colutions are recircu-lated from the leach well or wells to the plant and back to the wellor wella.

We do have a surge reservoir in this system that at times containssolutions other than voter. Thio recervoir van cut from roughlylevel ground and is located in impervious bentonitic clay. As an

| added protection, this earthen tank 10 lined with polyethylene} weighted down with gravel.Il

! 2 potable water sources within a 5-mile radius.i

)j The Gas !!illo is a semi-arid region and, due to the scarcity of

water, every cmall apring or creek taken on come significance as awater source. Most of the creeks in the area are normally dry butcarry water in periods of above-average precipitation. Along manyof these stream beds carth dikes have been built to impound the '

runoff in reservoirs for the use of livestock.

The domestic water supply for the great majority of the people inthe area is provided by deep wells, Nos. 5, 7, 8, and 10 on theattached map.

Table I, in conjunction with Map L-1626 (attached), identifies andlocates all of the major water sources within five miles of the FourCorners in-place leach operation.

Only two of the streams in the arec normally have water in them.One in Coyote Creek which carries the mine water pumped fromWestern Nuclear's Day-Loma pite and from Federal partners' Loco-Clyde pito. The other in the west branch of Fracer Creek whichcarries water pumped from Atlas Minerals' peach chaft as for asthe Lucky Mc waste dump where it is dammed up.

3 Description of liquid effluent survey program.

Effluent will not be released into en unrectricted area.
