    Questionnaire cement production

    1. What is the total annual capacity of the cement production sector?

VASSILIKO CEMENT WORKS PUBLIC COMPANY LTD - Vassilikos

Plant: 1.200.000 tn clinker / year VASSILIKO CEMENT WORKS PUBLIC COMPANY LTD - Moni Plant:

    375.000 tn clinker / year

    2. How is production expected to change between now and 2020 and 2050?

A new cement plant is being constructed by the VASSILIKO CEMENT WORKSPUBLIC COMPANY LTD and is expected to be operational in early 2011. Thecapacity of the new cement plant will be 2.150.000 tn clinker / year. The lifeduration of the new plant is expected to be over 30 years. The two other plantsmentioned in question 1 above will be decommissioned.

    3. What is the total number of cement production plants? Please refer to the attached excel spreadsheet.

    4. What are the main fuel types and which percentage is used? Please refer to the attached excel spreadsheet

    5. What is the total amount of coal consumed annually (please specifyyear)? Please refer to the attached excel spreadsheet

    6. What is the origin and quality of the coal? (Anthracite, Bituminous, Subbituminous, Lignite ; specify chloride content, mercury content whereverpossible).Coal: The quality is bituminous and the origin is UkrainePet Coke: The origin is the East Coast USA and Egypt

    7. Are other fuel types used (waste, tires etc)? The secondary fuels reported on the attached excel spreadsheet consist mainlyof sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plants, used tires, bone meal andused treated oils.

    8. What is the total amount of other fuel consumed annually (please specifyyear)? Please refer to the attached excel spreadsheet

    10. What is the origin and quality of the limestone? Mercury content?Which other raw material are used (slag etc)? The limestone originates from the quarries of the VASSILIKO CEMENT WORKSPUBLIC COMPANY LTD in the Kalavasos area in Cyprus. The limestone canbe characterized as pure with a Lime Saturation Factor in the range of 110

    140. Other materials used are slag and pozzolana imported from Greece andItaly. Also clay and iron oxide are used. The quantities of the above materialsused in the plants are reported in the attached excel spreadsheet.

    11. What are the technical characteristics of the cement plants (dry kiln, wet kiln, preheater/pre-calciner)Please refer to the attached excel spreadsheet

    12. What is the status for air pollution emission control? Percentage ofplants/capacity with cyclones, ESP, bag filters, particle scrubbers, SO2scrubber, limestone injection, NOxreduction.

Please refer to the attached excel spreadsheet.13. What are the current (2005 or more recent) emissions of SO2, NOx,particles, CO2 and mercury from the sector? Please refer to the attached excel spreadsheet.

    14. Are there plans for increased air pollution control based on nationallegislation or international conventions? Please specify plans withinformation on which pollutants will be controlled and by whichtechnologies. Specify which specific legislation or international agreement(if applicable)The competent authority for Air Pollution Control in Cyprus issued Air EmissionPermits to the operator of the cement plants.
