A cynical person is inclined to question the goodness and value of everything. And, because nothing in life is perfect, the cynic can always find a flaw inabsolutely anything. Once found, the flaw is then magnified until itovershadows everything else. The cynic is a genius at pointing out why aparticular plan, idea or choice is no good and won't work.

The external cynics, such as sarcastic friends, pessimistic relatives, and losercoworkers who delight in finding flaws, can be avoided when you reali!e thattheir cynicism is contagious. "ut the inner cynic goes everywhere with you.#...$%t has been said that &%f you could give the person who is responsible formost of your troubles a kick in the caboose, you wouldn't be able to sit downfor a month&. (inning isn2t normal. That doesn2t mean there2s anything wrong with winning. %t 3ust isn2t the norm. %t is highly unusual.*very race only has one winner. o matter how many people are entered4not to mention all those who tried and failed to make the cuts5, only oneperson 4or one relay5 wins each event.(inning is unusual. And as such, it requires unusual action.%n order to win, you must do extraordinary things. 6ou can2t 3ust be one ofthe crowd. The crowd doesn2t win. 6ou have to be willing to stand out andact differently.6our actions need to reflect unusual values and priorities. 6ou have to valuesuccess more than others do. 6ou have to want it more. 4ow take note(anting it more is a decision you make and act upon 7 not some inherentquality or burning inner drive or inspiration5 And you have to make thatvalue a priority.6ou can2t train like everyone else. 6ou have to train more and train better.

You cant talk like everyone else. You cant think like everyone else. You cant be

too willing to join the crowd, to do what is expected, to act in a socially accepted

manner, to do whats in. You need to be willing to stand out in the crowd and con-

sistently take exceptional action. ! you want to win, you need to accept the risks andperhaps the loneliness" becausewinning isnt normal!
