PSG COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
PSG College of Technology, an institution of
academic excellence, was founded in the year
1951 by PSG & Sons' Charities Trust. The
institution is equipped with latest facilities and
excellent infrastructure. The college has signed
MoUs with research organizations and industries
to promote closer interaction in the areas of
technology development, student training,
curriculum updation and establishment of state-
of-art-centers of excellence. The mission of the
institution is to provide world-class engineering
education, foster research and development,
evolve innovative applications of technology,
encourage entrepreneurship and ultimately
mould young men and women capable of
assuming leadership of the society for the
betterment of the country.
The department of Information Technology was
established in the year 1999 with a vision to
develop quality engineers to meet the current
needs in the emerging world of IT. The
department endeavors to educate students to
acquire technical expertise and knowledge in
the field of Information Technology to enable
them to communicate and use that knowledge
constructively for the benefit of the society. The
department offers one under graduate and one
post graduate programme in Information
Technology and a post graduate programme in
Biometrics & Cyber Security.
Biometrics has emerged as an important tool in
security conscious society. Biometrics based
authentication and identification has become
the center of focus for many important
applications as it is believed that biometrics can
provide accurate and reliable identification.
Cyber security is about establishing trust in
entities accessing your networks and ensuring
that they perform functions consistent with the
role you define for them. Many applications
require a high level of performance not feasible
with a single biometrics. Additionally, it is also
believed that fusing multiple biometrics can
cover a wider population who may not be able to
provide a single biometrics and also improve
security of the systems in terms of spoof
attacks. This workshop would address research
issues in different levels of biometrics. The main
objective of this workshop is to leverage the
applications of biometrics and the basic
principles of cyber security from the perspective
of providing security awareness and its best
practices for the real world. This workshop
would also provide an insight into the latest
techniques used in this field to overcome cyber
crimes.
Cyber Society of India (CySI) is a non-profit
voluntary organization of computer savvy
individuals with a commitment towards the
society to enrich awareness about the use of
computers. The society has been conducting
regular workshops and seminars focusing
especially the security aspects, cyber crimes
and risks involved in an e-transaction etc.
In Coimbatore city, the Cyber Crime Cell is
attached with City Crime Branch (CCB) under
the supervision of Asst. Commissioner of Police.
This cell having the strength of Inspector, Sub-
Inspector and other ranks deals with Cyber
offences that come under the Information
Technology Act 2000.
